"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" was originally a childrens book published in 1957. What you saw in "Home Alone" was a snippet of the 1966 made-for-TV cartoon special based on the book. It's a real program and was not created for "Home Alone." The "Grinch" feature films that have been made much more recently were, in turn, inspired by the cartoon.
Fun Fact: The narrator of the 1966 cartoon of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is Boris Karloff. Karloff is likely the most prolific horror actor for the period of 1930s-1960s. He is famous for his portrayal of Frankenstein’s monster in many films.
If you’re wondering what Kevin’s parents jobs are his dad is a wealthy businessman while his mom is a fashion designer which explains the mannequins in the house. Daniel Stern’s spider scream will always be of Hollywood’s best screams
Yes! And Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, one my favorites since it came out in 1964. It was on tv every year ( it may be on their schedule now but I don’t get tv). It is about 1 hour long and is made with puppets. You will love it.
The Grinch was first a book by Dr Seuss in 1957. The cartoon in the movie is from 1966 and something generations watched every Christmas until the 2000s when the Jim Carey movie came out.
I’ve loved this movie since it came out but it’s special to me beyond that. It was probably my Dad’s favorite Christmas movie and 11 years after he passed I can still hear him roaring with laughter. Merry Christmas Dad! ❤😊
Kamilla, I’ll be the 25th person to tell you that the the big guy mom (Katherine O’Hara) accepts the ride from is famed comic actor John Candy whom O’Hara knew and worked with for years on a television show called Second City Television or SCTV for short. The story he tells of leaving his kid in the funeral home alone all day was ad-libbed and she knowing Candy so well she knew to just react to what he does and she went with it perfectly. Sadly he would pass from a heart attack 4 years later while making a movie. He was feeling off so he went to his trailer for a nap and never woke up. He was considered to be one of the truly nice people in Hollywood who always had time for fans, especially children.
“Doesn’t it only hurt you when you cut yourself shaving?” No, when you shower it opens your pores, slapping alcohol onto open pores is like lemon juice on a cut. It stings alright.
If I didn't have a cut it was never more than a light tingle for me. Similar to the sensation of pulling tape off of your skin (assuming no hair to be pulled). But having grown up watching this movie I was really mentally preparing myself for it when I got old enough to use it for myself lol.
you watch the Grinch every year yet you don't know that there are animated versions. Yes, there really is an animated version... well there is the 2018 animated version, but you need to watch the original version called "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" from 1966. It's a classic!
The cartoon version isn't a thing in Finland and i'd imagine not much of a thing in Norway either so it could easily be unknown to many people outside US.
I was 7 years old when I seen the Grinch who stole Christmas cartoon it was drawn by Friz Freeling (Bugs Bunny)and had the voice of Boris Karloff (original Frankenstein)
Saw this movie in the theaters when I was close to 8 years old and it has remained a Christmas classic for me since. John Williams’s score is iconic. Happy you got to see it for the first time! Merry Christmas!
Such a great movie and nice to see your reaction to it! Three fun facts: The girl at 2:53 is Hillary Wolf who represented America in judo at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. Daniel Stern's (Marv) brother has written episodes of The Simpsons and one of his children is a politician in California. Also, not only does this film star Oscar winner Joe Pesci, but also stars potential 2025 Oscar nominee/winner Kieran Culkin (4:58)!
Yay! A new "Home Alone" reaction I haven't seen yet! I was 8 years old when "Home Alone" came out (the same age as Kevin in the story but a couple of years younger than Kevin's actor Macaulay Culkin was at the time). Since I was right at the target audience age, the movie immediately became one of my favorites. - Fuller (the little kid with a reputation for wetting the bed) was played by Kieran Culkin, the real-life younger brother of Kevin's actor. - The movie is set in a very wealthy neighborhood in the Chicago area. It was mostly filmed on location at a real house, which still exists today, though the owners have fenced it off because they are understandably annoyed by the crowds of "Home Alone Tourists" who come to see it. - The gangster movie "Angels With Filthy Souls" is not a real-life movie and the scene from it was filmed by the makers of "Home Alone" specifically for the movie. - By contrast, the animated version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" has been around MUCH longer than the Jim Carrey live-action film. It started as a 1950s children's book by Dr. Seuss and the cartoon was adapted from the book in 1966, featuring monster movie acting legend Boris Karloff as the narrator and the voice of the Grinch, and famously deep-voiced singer and voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft (who is best remembered for being the original voice of "Frosted Flakes" mascot "Tony the Tiger") singing the "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!" song partially shown in "Home Alone".
This,Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, how the grinch stole Christmas,Frosty the snowman and it’s a wonderful life are must sees for the season, as well as the Christmas episodes most of the classic legacy network tv shows made prior to the 90’s.
I just met Macaulay Culkin a week ago in Medford, Massachusetts. I was a little kid stuck in a 39-years-and-11 month old's body. My friend I was with said I had trouble speaking! It was very memorable and so great to meet one of the biggest 90s child stars. I was in shock in his presence and also in sheer excitement. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is worth a watch as well. Another great Christmas movie where Kevin runs into similar trouble!
Hi Kamilla, really glad you enjoyed the film, as other`s have said the sequel is liked by a lot of people too. Best Wishes for A Merry Xmas & A Happy New Year for you, your family & Subscribers & commentators !!.
In the early 1960s, a full-page comic strip was sold to all the newspapers and it contains the comic-strip (panels) for the Grinch, from the legendary Doctor Seuss tale. Then in 1966, the animated version was available with Boris Karloff doing some of the narration, plus a song had been commissioned as a theme and soundtrack. I imagine it's on RUclips somewhere.
In 1990, there was no public internet or smart cell phones, so there was no Airbnb yet. Merry Christmas and it's nice to see you warmed up to this as it went along. I would love to see you react to the original "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" series, if you haven't seen them.
Hello Kamilla!😊 The original animated Grinch was only 30 minutes long. When we only had 3 TV stations it aired every year at Christmas time along with the other animated specials. Great reactions to this well made holiday film, Kamilla!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (1992). Happy Holidays!🎄
This is hilarious. It makes you feel like you're actually in the story! The action is humourous. It has stunts that give you the chills. I wish you all A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The original cartoon of How The Grinch Stole Christmas that Kevin watched in both movies(Home Alone) airs on TV almost every Christmas season on different channels and is available on DVD and RUclips etc as well. Last year it was on NBC.
Something I noticed rewatching the film - In addition to the neighbor kid throwing off the count, Kevin's boarding pass was accidentally thrown away during the mess made at dinner, which contributed to them forgetting Kevin. Looking at the prices •$122.50 for the pizzas = $295.70 today •$11.80 for Kevin's individual pizza = $28.48 •$19.83 for Kevin's groceries = $47.87 (I've seen at some point, it was as high as $72.28) Curse you, Inflation! There's a theory that the parents or at least Mr. McCallister is a mob lawyer. Someone recently told me in a comments section the belief that Mrs. McCallister is a fashion designer. Based on the traps, there's also a theory that Kevin grows up to become Saw. As a kid, the traps are hilarious; as an adult, they're still hilarious, but you start to feel bad for Harry and Marv because some of them are deadly in real life.
Yes, the original adaptation from the book was a cartoon. It's a worthy watch. Also, Jim Carrie's version's Cindy Lou Who, Taylor Momsen, now fronts the band "The Pretty Reckless".
I love this movie. Although "It's a Wonderful Life" is still my favorite Christmas movie, Macaulay Culkin is so good in this. He is also great in the movie Uncle Buck. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
This movie was HUGE when it came out. I remember watching it in the theater, I was 12. It was like a Tom and Jerry or Looney Toons cartoon come to life. As a kid, I loved the comedy. As an adult, I really love the house and I wonder what Kevin's dad did for a living and what his brother Rob did fro a living that he could afford to fly a dozen people to Paris. My wife and I still mae it a point to watch this every holiday and our 9 year old daughter loves it too. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
One of my favorite Christmas movies, there are plenty of great ones out there, not many but plenty, you just need recommendations. - Home Alone 2: Lost In New York - Scrooged ( Bill Murray) - The Grinch ( original animated movie, yes it’s real ) - Die Hard - The Christmas Chronicles - Gremlins - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer ( original claymation movie ) - National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation - Batman Returns - Legend ( Tom Cruise) Merry Christmas Kami you elf you. 💚🧝🏻♀️🎄🎅🏻
John Candy (Mr Polka) was truly a star. See the movie "Uncle Buck" one of many examples of his work & the film that launched Macaulay Culkin's career. It was "Uncle Buck" where the Director said "This kid could carry a movie all on his own" Yes, indeed he could. John Candy did this part as a favor for the director & did it for 1 day flat rate 8 hours. But the Director worked Candy all day close to 12 hours. His contract was 8 hours pay. The pizza guy, an unknown actor, also worked 12 hours but he was paid over-time so the unknown "Pizza Guy" actor was paid more money to star in this film than the big star John Candy.
That house in the N. Chicago suburb of Winnetka, IL just recently sold for $5.25 million. --> "Keep the change, ya filthy animal!" HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS was a Dr. Seuss children's book that was made into a half hour tv animated Christmas Special in 1966. Narrated by Boris Karloff, who was also the Grinch's voice, the title song was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft, who was also the original voice of Kellogg's Tony The Tiger of Frosted Flakes ads for over 50 years.
My favorite scene is Kevin in the church talking with the old man neighbor. Very heartwarming and emotional. Watch Home Alone 2, it's just as good. I'm sure there are many people that think its even better.
If anything, this movie will give you confidence to be HOME ALONe! The Grinch cartoon is an absolute real Christmas classic. "Angels With Filthy Souls" was made just for this movie. It's so sweet to me that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they didn't share a scene together, close enough. The funeral story by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious, rest in peace...Marv's spider death scream is legit. He really had arachnophobia. The greatest crime committed in this movie is certainly... that Kevin never even gets to eat his highly nutritious Macaroni and Cheese. "What, now?" "No tomorrow ya egghead yeah now!" 😂
3:22 Macaulay Culkin (who plays Kevin) is now married to Brenda Song (known for Disney TV shows) 😄 14:04 The Jim Carrey *_"Grinch"_* movie (2000) was made after the cartoon TV special (1966) that's aired every Xmas, based on Dr. Seuss' children's book (1957) 😂 17:42 Everybody cuts themselves the first time (and some, every time) 😁
The Grinch cartoon is a real show. It was the original Grinch TV special. They showed it every year and I watched it many times as a kid. The Grinch song brings back memories of my childhood. "The spider's scared" ... not as much as Marv. 🤣🤣 Thanks for this wonderful reaction.
Fun one, Centane! It's a keeper, isn't it? And yes, you should definitely treat yourself to both the kids book of The Grinch and the old cartoon. They are charming. 😊 Merry Christmas!! 🌲⛄ 🎁 🎀 Oh, and Centane, the milk and cookies were for Santa Claus. 😋
Great reaction, as always. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a real film that came out in the 1960's; I used to watch it as a child. The gangster movie that Kevin watches ("Angels With Filthy Souls") however, is not. It was made specifically for this film.
I've always enjoyed this film but the older i get the more i wonder what does Kevin's dad do to afford such a huge house? A great reaction, keep up the great work.
you see all of the mannequins in their house/basement (and then used by kevin as puppets), I think the mom was some very successful fashion designer and got rich, and someone else said what the dad did, but I can't remember what it was, and/or, what clues there are for what he did, if there were any clues... maybe something with a business/sales/economy-finance, real-estate, stock broker, or whatever else, probably something like that... also being/getting rich from it... ya, their house is a typical rich "hollywood's celebrity/actor" house/mansion/estate... (in almost every hollywood movie, you always see a rich neighborhood, houses/homes, and/or families, as hollywood actors and producers and etc, have no concept of a non, rich life and life style, at all...)
@@JoanHolt-yb1ds I don’t think it’s true, but there are theories that his dad is a successful smuggler, and depending on where you read it, it ranges from weapons to drugs.
as an adult who has worked in the health industry, i just can't stop thinking how extremely injured marv would end up by 2/3s of this movie. i mean... the paint can or the iron alone. other than that it is actually way better than i expected to watch reactions to this movie. i have watched it so many times.
The Grinch cartoon, Along with Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, are kid classics for Christmas, while this, It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas Story, and I'm forgetting one are teen/adult classics.
@@Centane MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🎁☃️❄️ Sounds like you haven't seen much Joe Pesci. I would recommend; WITH HONORS THE SUPER and of course LETHAL WEAPON 2,3 and 4 but you need to see the first one also! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🤟🏼🎸
I realized the other day, through a comment made by another reactor, that Old Man Marley is probably not creepy at all. It's just that, like the furnace, we're seeing him through Kevin's eyes. Somehow that had never occurred to me before.
Hey Kamilla! I hope your holiday season is going well. I enjoyed your reaction, although shocked that u didn't know about the Grinch animated movie. I grew up watching it along w/other cartoon & claymation Christmas classics: Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, The Little Drummer Boy, & A Charlie Brown Christmas. I also grew up watching classic Christmas movies like IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (My mom's favorite), MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, THE BISHOP'S WIFE, & WHITE CHRISTMAS. My favorite Christmas movie is A CHRISTMAS STORY because I could relate to the main character in that one. Well, hope u have a Merry Christmas.
The black and white film Kevin watches isn’t real. It was made specifically for this movie, and I love that. It would be cool if they actually made it, but just knowing all that did that for such a little thing is great, plus the film looks wild lol
13:46 Well, that settles it. Since you’ve never seen the 1966 animated “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”, you have to react to it. It was originally a Dr. Seuss book, and you might’ve seen “Horton Hears a Who”, which is also based on a Dr. Seuss book, and is the same Who’s as the ones in The Grinch.
Not Xmas related as far as I recall, but a 1970s movie I’m certain you’d enjoy is Car Wash. It’s a day-in-the-life dramady about working a low wage job at a car wash. Good song, too.
The officer can’t just go in the house. He either needs a warrant, permission from the home owner or other occupants, the door is clearly open, or probable cause that something bad is going on (like if there’s screaming, yelling, general not good noises going on). If he goes in without either listed reasons, he and the department, maybe even city could get in serious trouble. This is even worse, considering it’s in Chicago. Laws are usually stricter in cities.
Yes, that cartoon grinch movie was made for this film to be a secret Easter egg teaser for the live action version that was going to come out ten years later!
Little Caesars is trash. Any pizza joint that uses actual mozzarella and sauce from scratch (not imitations) as well as their own dough, is gonna charge at least 20 bucks nowadays.
Some trivia, the picture of Buzz's girlfriend is actually a boy wearing a wig. The director didn't want to be mean to any girl, so they dressed up a boy for the picture. I thought that was very considerate and sweet.
The original Grinch is a Dr Suess book and a very very old animated short movie. They recently made an animated remake of The Grinch. I do like the Jim Carey version but it is a little different to the original.
The cartoon version is THE classic version
And it’s only like 20 minutes long
Yes, you *_MUST_* react to this! Too late for this Christmas, but we'll look for it next year! 🎄
I refuse to watch any other “Grinch” than the original animated one.
Yeah, sorry...Jim Carrey one i refuse to watch. I grew up with the cartoon
That’s the original Grinch movie. It was animated. You should definitely watch it.
Dr. Seuss is the original book. Every native english speaker should teach their children with Dr. Seuss.
Don't eat green eggs and ham, it'll make you sick.
Fun Fact: The narrator of the 1966 cartoon of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is Boris Karloff. Karloff is likely the most prolific horror actor for the period of 1930s-1960s. He is famous for his portrayal of Frankenstein’s monster in many films.
yes the grinch is an actual cartoon made years and years before Jim Carrey's movie. It's a classic
Narrated by Frankenstein's Monster himself Boris Karloff.
I forget Jim Carrey even did that
If you’re wondering what Kevin’s parents jobs are his dad is a wealthy businessman while his mom is a fashion designer which explains the mannequins in the house. Daniel Stern’s spider scream will always be of Hollywood’s best screams
Marv's scream when Kevin puts the spider on his face is legendary. I always crack up when that scene comes up lmao 😂
The last part with the old man reconciling with his son was the absolute best part for me.
Certfied childhood classic ❤️
You need to watch the original Seuss "The Grinch" ASAP
Yes! And Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, one my favorites since it came out in 1964. It was on tv every year ( it may be on their schedule now but I don’t get tv). It is about 1 hour long and is made with puppets. You will love it.

Yes The Grinch cartoon is the one you should watch. The original, long before Jim Carey
Definitely gota watch Home Alone 2, it’s my favourite 🙌🏻
The Grinch was first a book by Dr Seuss in 1957. The cartoon in the movie is from 1966 and something generations watched every Christmas until the 2000s when the Jim Carey movie came out.
no the grinch who stole christmas is an animated movie from the 1960's.
I guess it's technically a movie, but it's only 26 minutes long, so like a mini-movie.
That tarantula roaming around the house would freak me out constantly.
Definitely watch the 2nd one too! It’s honestly just as good 🙌🏼
I’ve loved this movie since it came out but it’s special to me beyond that. It was probably my Dad’s favorite Christmas movie and 11 years after he passed I can still hear him roaring with laughter. Merry Christmas Dad! ❤😊

The way the guy on the phone eating the donut handled that was hilarious. "Rose! hyper on 2" 😂
“Doesn’t it only hurt you when you cut yourself shaving?”
No, when you shower it opens your pores, slapping alcohol onto open pores is like lemon juice on a cut. It stings alright.

@ me too lol! Although whenever I shave and put on aftershave after a shower, it does feel like I’ve been slapped by an ice cold hand on both cheeks 😂
This movie is a part of my childhood DNA 😂😂😂 to be a child of the time and NOT aspire to be Kevin McCallister is sacrilege
The scene with Mr. Marley and Kevin in the church is my favorite scene.

Excellent reaction, as are most of your reactions. Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas, God bless you.
"What, now?" "No tomorrow ya egghead yeah now!" 😂
3:22 Macaulay Culkin (who plays Kevin) is now married to Brenda Song (known for Disney TV shows) 😄
14:04 The Jim Carrey *_"Grinch"_* movie (2000) was made after the cartoon TV special (1966) that's aired every Xmas, based on Dr. Seuss' children's book (1957) 😂
17:42 Everybody cuts themselves the first time (and some, every time) 😁
Part 2 next please - thanks 🥰
27:17 - The late great John Candy and the kid played in another movie together called "Uncle Buck".
its definitely worth watching home alone 2 as well, they are classics kamilla
The Grinch cartoon is a real show. It was the original Grinch TV special. They showed it every year and I watched it many times as a kid. The Grinch song brings back memories of my childhood.
"The spider's scared" ... not as much as Marv. 🤣🤣
Thanks for this wonderful reaction.
One of the original concepts in storytelling. A child left alone to defend his home.
Great reaction, as always. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a real film that came out in the 1960's; I used to watch it as a child. The gangster movie that Kevin watches ("Angels With Filthy Souls") however, is not. It was made specifically for this film.
I looked on your page, how have you never seen It's a Wonderful Life? Best Christmas movie ever.
I'm so happy. Getting to experience this with a first timer is rare. Oh, by the way... The Grinch is older than Jim Carey ;)
Merry Christmas kiddo.
Great captivating response. Keep up the wonderful work.
"Chaos" is the go-to word! Lol
@redmoonbloodmoon3161 that kinda explains a lot thank you.
Having a crush on Kami proves to be difficult to focus on the movie and her simultaneously because all my focus is on her 😅 ... 💝
loved your reaction! Merry Christmas
The Grinch cartoon, Along with Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, are kid classics for Christmas, while this, It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas Story, and I'm forgetting one are teen/adult classics.
"He put the thing on the thing". Nice detailed comment there 😅
yep yep english was easy right there 😂😭
@@Centane MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🎁☃️❄️ Sounds like you haven't seen much Joe Pesci. I would recommend;
WITH HONORS
THE SUPER and of course
LETHAL WEAPON 2,3 and 4 but you need to see the first one also!
One of the movies that absolutely made my childhood! 😍
The black and white film Kevin watches isn’t real. It was made specifically for this movie, and I love that. It would be cool if they actually made it, but just knowing all that did that for such a little thing is great, plus the film looks wild lol
Merry Christmas Kamilla!
The spider house. lol
Animated Grinch is the original, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. Whe I was a kid we all couldn't wait for it to air!
This movie is the definition of I’m not stuck with you, your stuck here with me 😂
Check out the movies Home Alone 2: Lost in New York(1992), Richie Rich(1994), and The Goonies(1985).
I never noticed this but the girl who was counting everyone counted herself twice 😂
best movie ever
The OG Grinch is the cartoon (Well technically the book by Dr. Seuss is). It is awesome and a great holiday movie!
Yes, that cartoon grinch movie was made for this film to be a secret Easter egg teaser for the live action version that was going to come out ten years later!
$12.25 for a pizza in 1990 is criminal. Little Caesars have 1 topping large pizza for $5.99 today.
It's probably a local joint. Priced for convenience.
Pizza + delivery and maybe more expensive in that area of chicago
It's more than likely a way better pizza than Little Caesar's.
Little Caesars is trash. Any pizza joint that uses actual mozzarella and sauce from scratch (not imitations) as well as their own dough, is gonna charge at least 20 bucks nowadays.
To be fair, Little Caesars is crappy pizza even by the low standards of chain pizza, which is why it's only $5.99.
As an American, i apologize for all the grinch comments coming your way.
😂
ROCKIN' AROUND THE CLOCK! Brenda Lee recorded this when she was only 13!
this is an ald clasic, also home alone 2, they are on the tv around every christmas each year since it came out.
Greatest Christmas comedy movie, Merry Christmas
Some trivia, the picture of Buzz's girlfriend is actually a boy wearing a wig. The director didn't want to be mean to any girl, so they dressed up a boy for the picture. I thought that was very considerate and sweet.
Kamilla at first I thought you said Holiday season bites 😂😂 I had to do a double take.
The 1966 Grinch is the one I grew up on lol. The Jim Carrey one didn't come out til I was 13 😬 check it out it has some fun songs lol
The original Grinch is a Dr Suess book and a very very old animated short movie. They recently made an animated remake of The Grinch. I do like the Jim Carey version but it is a little different to the original.
luv that you love my generation... Gen X!!! hello from Switzerland from an Texas guy
