When NBA Players Play Hide & Seek...

- If you look closely after this made basket, you’ll see this little guy, Jose Alvarado from the Pelicans sneaking from out of bounds, tip-toeing behind the ball handler and getting a steal that would ultimately lead to a layup for his teammate.
What you’re about to see is how Jose Alvarado became popular in the NBA in just a few games by literally playing hide and seek with his opponents.
What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
After the made three pointer, you can see him in the corner, literally hiding behind the bench guys, so as the Bulls inbound the ball, he sneaks from behind and surprises Carusso which causes a traveling violation. This is exactly how Jose got the nickname Grand Theft Alvarado.
Dude is always hiding, lurking from behind, being a constant threat for the ball handlers.
As you watch some more of his greatest hits so far in his young career, let me just point out that he started out his rookie year as an undrafted player in the G-League. He was on a 2 way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, and occasionally got some playing time due to players being in health and safety protocols.
So Alvarado made the most out of that opportunity. By always playing hard, and leaving everything on the floor, not only did he become a popular player among New Orleans fans, but eventually the team recognized the effort and passion that he plays with, so they gave him a 4 year deal worth 6.5 million.
That did not change anything about his approach however since he’s always aggressive, and putting pressure on his opponents.
Also, Jose doesn’t get intimidated from the much more famous and accomplished players that he goes up against.
D'Angelo Russell legitimately did not know who he was guarding so he asked the coaches but before they could answer, Alvarado told him himself.
And back in January he got into a little back and forth with Joel Embiid, so they got a double technical. But Embiid loved the feistiness and actually paid Alvarado’s fine.
So not only does he get recognition from the fans, the media, but the opponents as well.
Jose has been getting more and more playing time, so the past 10 games, he’s up to 20 minutes per game, averaging 8.5 points and 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals in that time.
He is becoming a real contributing piece to this team, and has had a significant impact in the Pelicans push for the play-in tournament.
At the end, I gotta mention that his sneakiness reminds me of Pablo Prigioni, who was the oldest rookie in NBA history, as he came into the league from Europe at 35 years of age.
All of that experience that he had, he used it to catch players by surprise and get a ton of steals off of inbounds.
Up until now, Prigioni was the undisputed king of this category, but I guess there’s a new GOAT in Jose Alvarado.
As a little guy myself, I’m so happy that hard work and effort paid off, and that he got a nice contract from the Pelicans. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out. Спорт

As an Argentinian, I loved that reference to the often times forgotten Pablo Prigioni. He was a true basketball genius, just not suited for NBA stardom.
ah estamos por todas partes
@@ccsese1627 obvio que sí, están geniales los videos de HeatCheck
Pablo was solid nba back up point guard. Just came in the league a little too old
Hola, esta es la sucursal Heat Check Argentina? 😊 Que grande Pablo Prigioni igual, buena referencia 👍
oaaaa vamo argentina
Every size of human can have an inpact on the court. Well done Jose
Effort trumps all

I’ve noticed this guy recently on these steals too. I’m impressed. Underdog story for sure 🙏🏼
This guy is funny as hell hiding in the corners.
What a dude. Wish to see more of this in other players. Alvarado, do your thing man!
Jose Alvarado
Sneak 100
I love this channel - real insight, research and thought, good reference to other players, many lesser known.
Keep up the great work.
Love these videos!
That’s an amazing nickname! Love it 😂
Bro love this man
I love it when you stick to one specific topic.. That's when you are at your best..
detailed analysis of good plays are okay, but this feels more fun to watch..
Bro I never ever heard about him 😂😂😭😭😭😭
These are great!! And his coming out of nowhere for the steal is making me miss T.J. McConnell.
WE LOVE THE LIL GUYS!
I'm 6ft6 but love seeing the shorties ball out. You should make a video about short NBA players' success (Jordan McLaughlin?) and how they make a name for themselves in the league with smaller stature
Hey, keep grinding ,stay positive, don’t doubt your abilities. It will all make sense 🤞🏽🙏🏽
🙏🏼☝🏼
Jose easily one of my favorite players right now😮💨👍🏽
great stuff from white kyrie as always he pick up interesting subjects and keep it short without 30 sec bs intro and sponsors in every videos respect for quality stuff mate
ps u could make some mainstream subject too like who is your mvp this season
Him doing that to Caruso is funny! hahahha! both guys seems like master hustler
2:12 people hate on Embiid too much
If “gimme that s**t” was a person
I was waiting for that notification by Jose Alvarado.. 😆 #GTA
I came into this video thinking "if Jose isn't in this video I will riot" and then very first words I hear are "here's Jose!" good shit
Lol I would redo the video to make the shot lol. Good vid!!
Alvarado, so good he has even a metro station in Madrid, line 1 xD
You gotta watch yo back nowadays. Jose could be watching
Four years for 6.5 million he deserves more
He already a fan favourite
Sneaky shinobi ninjutsu 😁
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of my favorite role players right now. Damn, just thinking he would fit in well with the Bucks. Great for NOLA.
Sneaky fast
This is amazing. I hope this new pelicans team can do some damage.
Also, cool fact about Embiid. He's not my favorite, but that's a classy move.
I mean, just looking at the guy, he looks like he's been stealin' shit all his life. Just kidding. 🤣 Jokes aside, damn, he got a Heat Check video made especially for him. You know a guy's special when that happens.
sneaky jose
More POETL, please! It's quite entertaining to watch. Make those vids a different channel or shorts, etc., maybe?
This man is hiding in plain sight.
Wow 😳 goddamn GTA
1:54 If I were in the situation, I would say "no, I can't" and splash in his face. And while D'Lo is on the fence the next possession, do it again in his face. That's 6 easy points right there. For a guy who likes to play hide and seek, he has a quick temper lol
Love Alvarado.
Ninja :p
Ty
He is so sneaky...
Lol in the first clip he looks like he's hiding and telling his teammate on the sideline to stand right here don't move I'm going to get us another one.
Kuroko!
Please do more POETL 🙏

Only caruso avoided his play. Dude always on his ultra instinct
unless there’s been multiple attempts, i do remember him not being able to get the ball, but making him commit a travel instead, giving pels the ball back
Misdirection. Real Life Kuroko
Oldest trick in the park 😅😅
Death and life are in the power of the tongue they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
W Embiid
He is kinda like Kuroko (Kuroko no basket anime ).
Are you from Macedonia?
What happened to poetl
How about TJ Mcconnell?
Is NBA players play Hide and Seek even legal in the NBA?
4 years $6.5 mil?? some players never touch the floor making more than that! He needs more than $6.5 mil
Pinoy basketball hahahha
He's father is a filipino..named Max😀
I have always wondered why players don't do this more often.
This should be basic in any possession sport. But the lazy ass NBA *stars* are more about showing off and less about putting in the effort. Many small things can improve the game drastically!
TJ McConnell 2.0
I love the competitiveness. But where I’m from they will call you a “Roach” for do shit like this
I was playing a mens roster last night, and did this. And it worked, and I got a fast break +1
STEALTH 100 SKILL
How do you miss 🤦🏻♂️
