    How does Mplus handle negative CFI in a simulation study testing if a method can detect misspecified models? Specifically, can a negative CFI for a misspecified model be treated as zero, considering only two out of six conditions resulted in negative CFI (due to a higher chi-square value in the independent model compared to the target model)?

      I'm not sure how Mplus handles this (that would be a question that you should ask the Mplus support team) but since CFI can be negative, I would not necessarily treat a negative value as zero (a negative CFI value indicates extremely poor fit, i.e., that the target model fits worse than the independence model).

      @@drnooraaa Since negative values are legitimate, I would report them the way they are! Perhaps add a footnote explaining when/why negative CFI values can occur.
