I'm not saying his shot is better than Matthews, but his release point is more deceptive, making his shot... ... damn can't believe I'm saying this... better... Matthews is bigger, faster (probably), stronger (definitely)... Still, this kid may have the best shot in the NHL at 18... That's nuts...
Plus... did you see a couple of those 'seeing eye' passes he made... This kid is NOT just a sniper... He's a helluva play-maker with elite vision...

    • @ThatGuy-nv7cx
      @ThatGuy-nv7cx 11 месяцев назад

His passes are extremely under rated. He knows he’s drawing the sole attention of the defenses, so he’s creating a lot of chances for those around him. Only problem is his teammates are washed veterans and can’t capitalize

If 'All the World's a Stage', then yeah... I'm NOT just an Actor/ Ham... But a playwright (a la some 'Bard' they keep talking about whose name escapes me ;) , 'In Love with his own words'... Still, I'm going to quote myself, from another thread, first... because what I wrote says AT LOT imo, about what position Bedard ALREADY OCCUPIES in the Hockey Pantheon, HISTORICALLY AND I'M NOT KIDDING...
2nd, because, my words are buried deep, in another thread, and genuinely deserve to see the light of day, again imo...
Last but not least... because one guy compared Bedard to Zegras (No, just No!)... Another took a poster to task for saying (I'm paraphrasing) that he knew within 5 minutes of watching Bedard at Hawk's practice... His vision, his poise, the way he keeps his head up... 'What he (Bedard) could become'... (Ok, I'm putting words in that poster's mouth, but I knew right away what he was driving at)... And that other guy (still paraphrasing) was like... 'No, you can't possibly tell that much, that quickly'... And I'm thinking dude... sometimes with the outliers, the true outliers, YOU CAN!... And then I proceeded to give THE BEST Historical illustration of this, PERIOD... FULL STOP...
OK, enough from me... let me quote... ME;)... from another thread...
    xxx
Man, I'm an old dog... from 'The Great White North'... My grandkids are grown-ups... I've seen them all play, from the days of Gordie Howe (Not Howe's 'hey-day' mind you ) on up... You think pro-scouts, in the case of the outliers, the real outliers, can't ID the future NHL super-stars... You're what the prophets of yesteryear used to call... WRONG. ...
When Boston Bruins scouts first saw Orr Play at 14 ...Right away, they wanted to sign him to an NHL contract... which they were allowed to do back then... at 14... and kept pushing for this , until Orr's parents finally relented... Bobby's Mom was the holdout... but she finally relented when Bruins brass offered to provide Orr's Dad with a car, plus stucko her house, to sweeten the deal...
...So then Boston Bruins braintrust started telling Bruins sports reporters, bearing in mind that Bruins were perennial last place finishers, in a six team league , at the time...
...'Don't worry Baby' (Cue Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys)... THE KID is coming... THE KID is coming... to save the Bruins...
...And , of course, Bruins players knew Who/What was coming too... Then Orr arrived for his first NHL training camp... and, from the very first practice, the Chief, aka MISTER Bucyk, and Cheevers, and Sanderson ...Ok, Derek Sanderson already knew cause he played junior for Niagara Falls Flyers vs Orr's Oshawa Generals and had already competed against Orr... That is to say, had already watched Bobby Orr play keep-away with the puck, vs some of the best junior aged players on the planet... But after that first practice, the Bruins vets (paraphrased) were like 'Wow... just Wow' (Edit: Not that this qualifies me as an expert, but I lived in Oshawa for a time, as a kid, and us kids used to go watch the Generals play for ONE DOLLAR, one dollar, that's what we paid for tickets to OHA, major junior A, games, back then)
Now don't get me wrong... I'm not saying Bedard's going to be as dominant as Orr was... leading the NHL scoring twice for a Dman will NEVER, EVER happen again...But less we forget... You're taking about the outlier of outliers... Nothing less than the greatest natural talent to ever don a pair of skates here... plus arguably the greatest team sport athlete, any-sport, any-time, PERIOD, FOLLOWED BY EXCLAMATION MARKS...
    xxx
But Zegras? ... Zegras? ... I mean Zegras is very talented, very talented... don't get me wrong... we all saw his 'Wrinkle on the Michigan' etcetera... But seriously, Bedard is already Way Better than Zegras at 18!
Nobody, not named Gretzky, completely owns the World juniors at 17... Gretzky did it at 16... BUT... He's Wayne Friggen Gretzky... Lindros couldn't do it at 17... Crosby couldn't do it at 17... McDavid couldn't do it at 17... Bedard friggen did it... Oh, and by the way... Did I mention he was Seventeen friggen years old at the time...
    xxx
Our Canadian Nats have won the World Juniors 20 Times, TWENTY FRIGGEN TIMES... There's been a couple of NHL lockouts allowing for Canadian World Junior 'Dream Teams', like our 1995 World Junior Dream Team in Red Deer, Alberta featuring Eric Lindros... Maybe you've heard of him?...
... And our 2005 World Junior Dream Team, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, destroying the competition every game, outscoring them, if memory serves something like 47-11... featuring Sidney Crosby... maybe you've heard of him ? Proving, in no uncertain terms, whose BOYZ, BEST ON BEST, ARE REALLY BOSS!
So who holds all the Canadian World Junior scoring records? Who electrifies the whole world, at the biggest moment and on junior hockey's biggest stage... Scoring the greatest goal (Not the biggest, not the most important, mind you) in Canadian World Junior Team history.... Single-handedly...Dancing thru the whole Slovak Team in Sudden Death, OT...???
Why it's a Seventeen year old kid (in what is normally considered a 19 year old tourney) named Connor Bedard! Remember that name...
    xxx
Alright I know... Zegras won gold for the Yanks at the World Junior, plus he was tourney MVP... Ok, ok... relax... I said Zegras was really good didn't I? But Bedard good? don't make me laugh...
Did Zegras completely trash the rest of the world junior competition, completely own them, lead the tourney scoring and win MVP by a country mile... at 17? At friggen SEVENTEEN? NOT EVEN CLOSE... WHY?
Because Zegras couldn't carry Bedard's friggen jock... NOT NOW... NOT EVER!
    xxx
Look, you want to mention Bedard in the same breath as Crosby or McDavid? ... totally, TOTALLY FAIR GAME... You wanna compare him to a former NHL MVP and Hall of Famer like Eric Lindros... Lindros was a monster... But talent wise... Totally, TOTALLY FAIR GAME... You want to compare Bedard, again talent wise, to Bobby Orr or Wayne Gretzky.... Wait a minute.. Slow down... let's NOT GO CRAZY HERE... But, but , but...
    xxx
Zegras... seriously dude, Zegras? Come on now... I'm an old dog from 'The Great White North', like I told you before... You know... THE BIRTHPLACE OF HOCKEY!... You're going to have to do a helluva lot better than that...
    PEACE OUT...

I think Connor Bedard isn't living up to all the hype he's getting right now. Rookies normally come firing out on all cylinders in their first year, just like Gretzky, Lemieux, Selanne, etc. By now, the Hawks should at least be in the 2nd wildcard spot because of him. But right now, he's just not producing. They're dead last in their division because of his lack of productivity AND also because of coach Luke Richardson. I'm afraid he's not coaching at the level he should be. As a big Hawks fan, these are the 2 major areas that need massive improvement.

    @SirJaymesDAudelée 3 месяца назад

The haters kill me. You can always tell someone who knows nothing about hockey when they point to Bedard’s stature.
Size doesn’t mean nearly as much as people think it does. He’s below league average, but still well above the smallest who’ve succeeded in the NHL. They look at other things too, like how strong is he. You will likely see him throw more hits than any of the generational players he’s been compared to. He does have a mean streak, which I love. Doug Gilmour was an inch taller and 10lbs lighter, played in a much rougher NHL, and earned the nickname “Killer”, just to put it into perspective.
When a player is truly at risk of being too small, they are referring to his level of frailty, and lack of ability to evade contact. Bedard is none of that, so people…quit barking about his size.
As for his skills-again-people talk about his release all the time, including news people. But have you actually spent quality time observing him on ice, in all situations? Hockey is about far more than being in the camera when a goal goes in. The more you know the more you see. He may have certain skills that draw a spectacle, but IMO it’s his creative IQ which is uniquely special, and you probably won’t recognize it for a couple more years when all the news idiots are drawing attention to it.
And for anyone still wondering if he’ll be good or not, did you not watch the world juniors last year? That kind of performance has actually never been seen at that tournament. Not even by Gretz himself. Does this not make you think that he just might be what every person in the professional hockey world thinks he is? Do you think every person in the professional hockey world is making an embarrassing mistake? Like they know their jobs pretty well.

Matthews wishes he'd have a shot like Bedard does. Watched players for 4 decades and i've NEVER seen any shot like Bedards. Only Mario Lemieux had a booming wrister like Bedard does. And even he isn't on Bedard's level in shot quickness. And it's not just about the sheer power of it. It's the deceptive nature. He can get it off his stick faster than anyone i've ever seen. It's just on his stick and then in a fraction of a second it's gone.

Still though practice and in game with that crowd are way different. Many cant handle that pressure. The media has put a load of pressure on this kid and hes just making shit look like business as usual.. we knew he would be good anyone with any hockey experience knew that but its awesome to see him doing so good this soon.

i guess we got crosby and ovi all over again with the connors, gonna be tough to have a career like crosby's i would consider crosby the best all around player ever, mcdavid is the best offensive player with the great one and ovi the best goal scorer

Wonder if there would be this much hype if he went to Columbus, like he probably should have... but the NHL would never have let that happen. Just like they would have never let McDavid go to Buffalo. I'm not seeing it, as a life long hockey fan, he looks like he'll just be a good player. Not seeing Gretzky or Mcdavid skills out of him.

@@KenMastersxtc ya u have a point but i think the league and fans have got much more used to smaller guys since martin st Louis shattered that stupid thought that u can be too small just off ur height. I read st Louis legs were fuckin massive with muscle. Ive played with many small guys that could take the body better then the big guys. Fuckin lay people out flat amazing hits. And no homo but they went in the dressing room to bedard the other day and he had his shirt off the kids got more muscle on him then i would have thought . Hes in great shape. Young and full of energy hes ganna kill it. And even if he isnt the next great he will still be fun to watch and great on any team hes on but hes got potential to be something special for sure. If he can avoid injuries and stay healthy for a long career like ovi and Crosby have had he will be up there with them in points im sure

Bedard is quite at home in the slot. Great stealth coming to the slot wide open & unleashing a very accurate hard wrist shot. That's it. It may be enough his first year. 40 goals ? Maybe. Just as likely he could wind up -40. He is a defensive liability. He has below average speed. Terrible in his own defensive zone. Looks lost. That is the honest professional assessment of the 18 year old rookie.
