Actually its not scratching, seals dont have nipples, the mothers leak it from the pours of their belly and the pulls lick the belly to drink it up. Its so cute 🥰

Also given the advent of global warming, harp seal pups have less and less time to prepare for going out on their own. If the ice stays too short, all the harp seals die for that year. If this continues, it's possible they'll go extinct quite quickly.

It's the fat, aka the blubber. It's why they triple in size so quickly.
they have something called Blubber(which can get up to 10cm fat) that protects them from the cold so dw c:!
The young ones have this white fur and when they age they loose the white fur but they still have a very dense gray fur. In addition to the dense fur, they additionally have a high fat percentage in their body. So they are double insulated.
