FAREWELL SPECIAL COVERAGE onboard Mumbai's one of the last remaining Diesel Double Decker Bus

In July 2023, Mumbai based Busfans came together & hired a Double Decker Bus to give it a Farewell by planning a Special Run through the heart of Mumbai. I was lucky to be a part of it, since these memories are difficult to recreate. Each core member of the group was assigned different work. The responsibility for booking the bus, arranging refreshments & decorations were evenly split along with keeping a track of all the expenses. The Special Run was executed in a well disciplined manner, ensuring everyone enjoys the journey without creating any sort of mess. It was a ride worth remembering since our Double Decker was the first to cross the Bandra Worli Sea Link, creating history. The group photo featured in Thumbnail was clicked at Rani Laxmibai Chowk, Sion Bus Station.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) is operating Double Decker Buses in Mumbai for past 86years. Carrying more passengers than a Single Deck Bus while occupying the similar road space has been a huge highlight for these DDs. But these Diesel powered workhorses are now counting their days, abiding the rules under Vehicle Scrappage Policy.
Currently, BEST has less than 10 Diesel Double Deckers left in service who would soon be replaced with Electric Double Decker Buses built by Ashok Leyland's SWITCH Mobility. Although, the delivery has slowed down but BEST is making sure to procure New Double Deckers before it's too late. Within a year, we can expect 200 AC Double Decker Buses running in Mumbai & 700 more are ordered in the next phase. This will once again spread the network of Double Decker Buses all over Mumbai & bring back the lost glory of BEST Undertaking.

Excellent coverage - A fitting farewell to the Double Deckers of Mumbai
So they're finally going off the roads. 15th September 2023. It's their last day. Non AC Diesel Double Decker BEST Busses.
Hope they preseve a few. In the 1960,s there were BEST Trams as well, but none were preserved. Till the late 1980,s we had the BEST Double Decker Trailer Busses as well.
Efforts are made to preserve a few Non AC Double Decker buses. Will get a better picture of the scenario in a month or two.
