I got my Axe FX and followed this video and all I can say is WOW! Blown away. Thanks SO MUCH for posting this. Ive never heard such a great SRV tone in my home studio before, and I've owned two Kempers!
As usual your tone and playing is spot on. So much so that with eyes closed one could barely discern the difference between you and SRV- I would argue in the majority of sections. Very few people on this planet could pull that off so hats off to you Tyler. Also, love the juxtapose positioning of the old TV and Hi-Fi against the backdrop of you tweaking high tech patches on one of the most powerful fx processors the world has ever seen! Modern tech being used to recreate the genius of the past. As others have mentioned, I hope your patches will work on the AFXIII. You really should ask Fractal to give you one and/or hire you as an expert and get your patches on their website for free or "for fee" download. Your spot-on custom patches will definitely help them to sell many more units. +1 for the guy that asked for your tabs. I think we would all like to get them. Your tone and playing of "Little Wing" was incredible. I watched it over 100 times and have most of the intro down.
+absinha6209 I've only gotten isolated luck getting David's sounds. Keep in mind his tone/sounds vary WIDELY from album to album song to song. My biggest hurdle has a lot to do with his compression. So far the AxeFx compressor pedals don't do that effect quite properly like a good vintage MXR can.
+Tyler Grund - well, if you do get it, I might have to get one. Axe FX should be paying you for these videos. This is up there with Andy from ProGuitarshop demos. Rock on!
I appreciate it Tyler! Just call me Tommy :) I really dig the sound of the Fractal, could be a great thing for recording. I tried one and I am very impressed with the sound. I can't believe it doesn't have any tubes in it. It would save my back too. Lol.
Hey, just wanted to say nice job. I don't have an Axe FX but if I ever score one I'll come right back here for this sound. I really enjoyed your playing as well. Bravo!
Great work Tyler and very quick after the Quantum firmware. Thanks for the patch and IR. Lots of good information and you've certainly spent some time to get to the end result. Keep up the good work.
Eye opening, thank you for this. Im loving the tones im getting after following your tutorial! Question-- where did you get that specific backing track?
Thank you very much for the tutorial, it helped me open up my mind about the possibilities on the axe fx. I've had it for a bunch of years now, but this helped me a big deal with getting the tone that I hear in my head. Please do keep it up man, thank you for the great vid!
Just like me- having to shush the kid at the end there! So good to hear this from you- I'm still playing my Super Reverb that you modded for me years ago that you did such an excellent job on- amazing amp, but as things go- I can never play it at home at a decent volume. I'm super happy to see that the AmpFX II can get THAT good and accurate of a Vibroverb/SRV tone. Interesting the way you approached it just like real components and came away with such good tone- it's clear that Cliff and crew are better at this then I thought they would be- everything is interacting with everything else just like they do in the real world of tube amps. Down to the transformers even- so many would just overlook that! This just sold me on the AxeFX being my solution for in-home playing and recording. I knew they could get good overdrive tones after hearing Rick Graham's stuff through one- but now I know it can pretty much do it all. Because of you and that Super Reverb you built me plus some Freidman and Bray modded Marshalls and one amazing Fender Bassman I'm a tube amp snob- but the truth is I can rarely play those amps at home at the levels they need to be at to sound great. I end up plugging into my Peavey 6505 MH at 1 watt to get the tube amp fix I need! Thanks for posting and adding a whole new tone pallet to my home studio!
Thanks, Tyler! This provided a great foundation for me to start with. My rig is a bit different than yours (an FM9 with a Godin LGXT and a Matrix GT1000FX amp); so with a few tweaks, I now have a really solid preset.
Tyler you nailed it, I have watched this video 3 times and each time I catch something new, Thanks so much for sharing! Can you tell me what pick ups you are using and also would the new firmware sound as good as this version?
PSA: if you hate constantly changing between standard and 1/2 step down tuning, get the Digitech Drop pedal. It does drop tuning in 1/2 step intervals, so it'll do 1/2 down all the way to a whole octave down- v useful if you don't have a bass. It'll also nail that super low Queens of the Stone Age tuning. Great pedal.
Just needs some cables for strings and bloody stumps for finger tips to fatten the tone up more, just curious how does this tone sound live? How many lead guitar tracks recorded? Thanks bro, you shred!
+Jason's Guitar Channel I have in the past, but seems to clutter the sound more then it should. SRV used spring rev sometimes, but I don't think I hear it much in his sound. Guys using his core sound as a livng (sayce, KWS, etc) all use heavy spring reverb, but I don't think I hear much of any spring in any SRV recordings. Now, I think I've heard SOME live recordings with spring coming through.
Congratulations, man! How that would be on the "glassy" version? Using the super reverb, I mean... Could you please tell me in a simple way how you would set up the amp and cab? I mean if you don't plan making a video about it 😎... This is the most accurate patch I've ever heard... It can even shut up vintage amp snobs
Nine years later, this still sounds amazing.❤
Give this man a cigar - he nailed SRV's tone and shared it - Absolute legend!!!!
I love coming back to watch this video every time I get a Fractal Audio product.
Congrats, that's the best AxeFx & AxeEdit video on youtube.
+numv2 THANKS!
+Tyler Grund Yeah great work & amazing tones - I've subscribed & will be coming back. Thanks
+Tyler Grund

Hands down the best SRV sound out of an Axe-FX. A+! Part of me would love to see SRV watch a video like this and wonder what he would say.
+absinha6209 LOL...first of all, he'd be freaking out " WTF is this internet thing!?"
+Tyler Grund - LOL! true. Hard to think it didn't exist then....shit I'm old.
Would love to hear a David Gilmour set up if you are a fan.

Phenomenal stuff. I tried using these settings on the AX8 (limited to one amp/cab) and got some great results too.
LT there's no way you made an AX8 patch for this is there?
@@mattgrill3311 would love to have it for ax8 as well
Incredible tone and play. If I close my eyes, it's SRV back from the dead! God job.
I am so grateful for people like you. I have no idea or patience for this - You deserve an award!
Awesome video. Your knowledge and commitment to nailing SRVs tone is admirable. Great job man!
Best tutorial for AXE-FX hands down. Thanks for explaining every step
When you start playing around 7:10 I got very impressed!! :) Very nice!
Thanks!
This is about the best SRV sound I've heard from an amp molder. Props to you. Great playing as well.
That was spot on Tyler! Sounds killer! Thank you for this detailed tutorial. Now I am starting to think about trying one.
Mr. Katona, you get such spot on tones already, stick with those amazing tube amps. Keep rocking! been a fan for a while.
I appreciate it Tyler! Just call me Tommy :) I really dig the sound of the Fractal, could be a great thing for recording. I tried one and I am very impressed with the sound. I can't believe it doesn't have any tubes in it. It would save my back too. Lol.
Thank you for the great video! 25 years playing tube amps - I think it's time to get an Axe-Fx.
so this is the man behind the guitar in BALLAD OF THE G1s. Dude, Tyler, you SHRED
Thanks 😊... yes I played all the instruments on both albums.
Impressive, this was just awesome.
One of the best videos I have ever seen on the axe fx II
Wow. Great job man. You nailed it. Closer than any others I have heard. But you also play it very well. Cheers.
Just followed this tutorial. sounds so good man well done. about 80% where I want to be with it.
Beautiful! Absolutely amazing, thanks for putting this out there. Cheers!
Tyler - Thanks for a great video - Great sound and great explanations on how you built it up the tone on the Axe FX II . Love your playing.
Thank ya sir. I'm a metal guy and have no experience in achieving legit blues tones. This was great.
Dear Tyler,
Do you have this SRV preset for Axe FX III available?
Just make it along with him in the video. I did this on my AFX 2 XL on the newer firmware.
Great tutorial, tone and playing. Just got my Fractal today and I can't wait to start dialing in tones.
You're an awesome guitarist! I enjoyed your video.
I’m looking at the Axe FX III. This will be one of the first things I try with it.
Thank you so much for this. You are a life saver, excellent patch ;)
Tone is Spot on!! Brilliant..
Great patch Tyler!
Hey, just wanted to say nice job. I don't have an Axe FX but if I ever score one I'll come right back here for this sound. I really enjoyed your playing as well. Bravo!
Great tutorial Tyler. Would love to see more of those. Thumbs up!!
Hell yes! Sounds amazing, thanks for posting this!
Great work Tyler and very quick after the Quantum firmware. Thanks for the patch and IR. Lots of good information and you've certainly spent some time to get to the end result. Keep up the good work.
Very good video on how to create a great patch from scratch. Kudos to your playing dude.
New favorite video on RUclips! Awesome job man!
You really nailed the SRV tones. Some of the greatest tones I’ve ever heard from the Axe FX and some really great playing as well :-)
Super thanks for this video. I'm dialing this in first thing tomorrow morning. Sounds pretty amazing.
I like the TS at 9. Great tone!
+2kool4skool.com Yeah, when I listened back to the video, I agree. I usually keep it at 9, should have left it there for the vid:)
Man that was awesome! the closest i've ever heard. Even without the real gear your tone is fantastic.
Wow. Even just those 2 Vibroverbs stock sounded really nice. Great job. Now, to save up for an Axe FX..
What an amazing video Tyler... and I absolutely love your playing! Congratulations!
Thank you so much for this! FYI your Little Wing video was the deciding factor on me getting the Axe FX!
Great job man. I just bought my Axe-fx ii XL+, and I will be following your tone. As you said, this time i had to sell my kids to Bangladesh ;)

Wow this sounds EXACTLY like him, would've guessed it's SRV himself if I didn't know it was an Axe FX
Tyler you nailed it, I have watched this video 3 times and each time I catch something new, Thanks so much for sharing! Can you tell me what pick ups you are using and also would the new firmware sound as good as this version?
Stock 1973 picks. Sorry can’t remember the firmware version.
Great video, and tone ! Thanks for making this and sharing your IR's and presets.
man,you are so awsome.love the way you tune your gear.
PSA: if you hate constantly changing between standard and 1/2 step down tuning, get the Digitech Drop pedal. Supernice video !! thanks for doing this .. really appreciate it
Awesome tutorial, well constructed chain and the sound is bang on. Playing is.. OK awesome too!
Oh wow this was amazing. I would love to see one of these done with the helix.
Incredible. I have a Helix on the way but that might get returned for the AX8 if that unit can get the same sound. Thanks for the tutorial!
This also makes a good guide on how to set my actual amp and pedal - thanKS !
Superb - thanks for sharing.
Sounds awesome, I've got to get one of these Axe-Fx2s
Excellent tone!! Pretty much nailed his tone.
*Awesome tutorial Tyler and your playing was awwesome with 2 W's too!*
I say YES YES and YES!!!!!!!
The best sound of SRV.
How did you record ?
man... this is nice !!! thanks for sharing.... amazing job !!!!
Great tone, and great playing also. Thanks!
Just needs some cables for strings and bloody stumps for finger tips to fatten the tone up more, just curious how does this tone sound live? How many lead guitar tracks recorded? Thanks bro, you shred!
GOOD GOD , Thank you so much
How can someone be so awesome
You’re too kind ❤️
Nice playing and the sound is awesome!!
Hello, great videos!!! Just wondering, its this setup possible in AX8? Thanks in advance!
great job man! you are amazing! subscribed instantly!
Nicely done
Great sound Tyler!
thanks a ton! closest i've ever been to his tone. this was awesome
Well done sir. I just got the H&K Grandmeister deluxe 40 and the Black Spirit 200. My next toy will be the Fractal AX8 :)
i think it sounds fantastic, and a really great easy to follow tutorial, great video :)
Great video and very useful information. Many thanks!
Completely agree this is perhaps the best YT video on the Axe. Quick question - why wouldn't you use spring reverb?
+Jason's Guitar Channel I have in the past, but seems to clutter the sound more then it should. SRV used spring rev sometimes, but I don't think I hear it much in his sound. Guys using his core sound as a livng (sayce, KWS, etc) all use heavy spring reverb, but I don't think I hear much of any spring in any SRV recordings. Now, I think I've heard SOME live recordings with spring coming through.
Surely killing at life man ! WP !
this is what heaven sounds like
AMAZING TONE !
Amazing video! great work!
The patch sounds great! :)
Great tone, Tyler. What pickups are loaded in your Strat?
Stock 1973 pickups.
Fuck off! That was amazing, man!! Geez
Amazing brother!!!
wow fantastic, i gona try this out. cheerz
Tyler, What would you use for a Wah in that patch? SRV's wah had a great sound (with his abilities at any rate)
Killer!!!! NICELY done!
Good video. What microphone and pop filter are you using?
Congratulations, man!
How that would be on the "glassy" version? Using the super reverb, I mean...
Could you please tell me in a simple way how you would set up the amp and cab? I mean if you don't plan making a video about it 😎...
This is the most accurate patch I've ever heard... It can even shut up vintage amp snobs
What some great sounding headphones for playing and recording with the Axe FX 2?
Great advice!!! Thank you!!
Nice Man!!! Sounds really good!
Great video, I think your Right handed self plays slightly better than your Left handed alter ego ;-)
Great video, but shouldn't where your pickup selector switch is set be a big part of the tone? Looking forward to seeing your other vids.
Great! Very good! It helps a lot really, I would love to see a John Mayer's guitar tone tutorial too haha, just saying (:
Great job on this!!
Awesome Video !!
