It's got some interesting elements, especially the expanding Bowens mount capability from such a small diameter front...but that interface is a no-go for me. I hate unnecessarily convoluted interfaces where a button or two would have solved a whole bunch of issues. It's a shame they didn't put some optics in front and make a Dedo-like instrument that is self-contained. That would have really piqued my attention. BTW, are you using a ProMist filter here?
When under the pressure of sets, this interface will drive you nuts... Great light, great idea... but that UI/UX, what a mess lol Why not just 2 hardware knobs? power and cct. Been looking for good light with embedded battery 30-60w hair light lately... Not many options. Hobolite seems to be onto something.
Looks like a good option for that on camera flash look on a easyrig or any of the other stabilizers. Also a great option for run and gun location work :D
Interesting piece of gear to have in the kit. Rather age appropriate though.(Need to have a good memory to use the menu) If this is the same INKEE company that manufactured the HDMI transmitter(Benbox), not too happy.
Good questions. For a sub-$400 light it’s really quite good. At 3200K and 5600K there is little G/M shift throughout the dimming range and the TM-30 RF is above 93. It’s a little greener in the gills in the 4400K space, but only to about a 1/8 correction. No idea about battery life, but given that the majority of the unit is battery, I’d give it pretty good odds.
Feels like Bluetooth is an easier way to control the light. The addition of a single button on the back might have made the interface much simpler. Pretty cool tho. Feels like a modern dedo light, would be cool to put a mini Fresnel on the front.
@@meetthegafferexactly what I was thinking watching this. Internal batteries I believe are the next wave. We got full color, but now we need to be lights on and focused as fast as possible. Just enough battery to come back around and plug them into mains / genny / bigger battery. What do you think?
It will be interesting to see how well this trend takes hold. It makes a lot of sense for fast moving set-ups or at least fixed scheduled set-ups. Astera comes from events where it makes a ton of sense. And having a manufacturer give you the confidence that the 9 hour mode on a unit will actually last 9 hours is huge. Astera’s ability to manage battery life and self-awareness is next level. As other manufacturers experiment with internal batts we’ll learn how well they manage their batts over time by how many fires are reported😳
I was semi-interested…until I got to the section of you trying to control things locally instead of remotely. No thanks. Also -knowing battery life would be a must before purchase

No ProMist. Probably just bad editing😬
I agree. That turn dial is horrendous! A couple buttons and a knob would have d9ne the trick
when i saw this it was an instant buy
Nice demo

Thanks! How is the color and dimming range and shift? Battery run time?

In a sense it’s in line with the new Astera point source units with integrated battery, just not as sophisticated, of course🙂
@@meetthegaffer Thanks Luke, big fan. Looking forward to your next commercial lighting breakdown.
Yup, still need to finish up a few Cinegear episodes! Always something fun in the pipeline😀

mine didn't come with the remote and cant find it anywhere
Erg
Can I use it myself for shooting videos outside?
Probably not the best tool for that.

That stand is interesting, it looks like the Mathews monitor stand 2 but beefier. Something new?
Yes, video coming soon!
could you pls try the waterproof
much different from other lights
