@ThisnThat54 The rectangular shape is created by the geometry of the stitch itself. If you add stitches, you'll add rows as well, so that won't "fix" it.
@busyhappyknitter Well, you wouldn't want to knit the foot like this because of the seams where stitches get picked up, but you absolutely can knit the leg part. Just remember that since the stitches go off at an angle, the gauge will be completely different and you'll want to swatch to figure out how many stitches of the ankle (toe up) you'll need to decrease when switching to entrelac, or how many to increase at the end of the entrelac if working top down.
You're very welcome. My 90 minute class on Entrelac is available in its entirety at Planet Purl. Just click on the "Events" link at the top to get to the archives.
That will depend on the size of the blanket, the weight of the yarn, the size of the needle, and how tightly you knit. The only way to tell is to cast on enough for work at least 4 bottom rectangles, work the bottom, the side triangle, the WS rectangle row and the final edge triangle and measure. Then do the math based on how big you want the blanket to be.
@omama42 I'm sorry but I can't as it would be hours and hours long. My suggestion would be to find a pattern you like, go to your local yarn shop to buy the yarn and to get hands on help there. Good luck!
Because entrelac creates angled knitting, it doesn't knit at the gauge on the label of the yarn. If you cast on the number of stitches recommended to get 4", you'll likely get 5 to 5.5 inches of entrelac. The only way to know is to swatch!
Could you tell me what accounts for some entrelac to look like squares while some look more like rectangles? Does it have to do with the number of stitches per square/rectangle? i.e. your using the "magic # 5," I'm using #6. My rectangles of course add two more rows. Does it have to do with the yarn type used? I love diamonds but I'm really going for a more square shape. Should I just decrease the "magic number?" Thanks for your video! Love it.
@omama42 Shaping in entrelac is tricky business and really requires design skill or the use of an existing pattern designed specifically for entrelac. An easier way is to knit the straight part between the bottom=m band or edge detail up to the shaping in the entrelac and then pick up stitches along top of the entrelac section and to knit the remaining part in a solid color.
Yeah, thnx for ur help. I m going to make an adult's shawl of this pattern, hw abt if i want to use more than 2 colours, nd can u plz tell me hw many basic triangles do i ned to work on?
in your entrelac video is the pattern the same as video tutorial even if the triangles are 10 stitches or more? In your video you worked 5 stitch triangles and I'd like to try it with 10 sts. Your dogs are soooo SWEET and CUTE!!
Well, yeah. I guess, i ll manage ;) :/ Nyways, u r such a gud instructor i ll say :) Entrelac used to be a nightmare for me, but thnx to u . . Cant stop myself now. xxx
We were blasted by bots and some pages were damaged. We’re in the process of building a fresh new site, but until then, the handouts are available with a pattern for the lingerie bag on Purlqueenpatterns.com.
There's no way for me to tell you that. It depends on the yarn, needle size, and how tightly you knit. My suggestion is to cast on for 5, knit up throught step three, measure what you created and multiply to get the desired width. Rip out and then cast on what you need.

You'll need to swatch. It depends on the yarn and the tension. Plus, you can choose larger or smaller rectangles to your liking.
THANK YOU! This looked like an insurmountable project to even begin but your tutorial makes a lot of sense! I'm not so intimidated now.
Thanks for the kind words. Good luck!
omg i love RUclips and I love you for making this video !!!

@omama42 There are just too many variables. I suggest you find a pattern you like and follow the shaping instructions for that neckline and gauge.
@LatingGirl It's valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky in Red and Gold. It's available at yarn.com.
@kimadawest Of course you can do it! Just don't overthink it and you'll be fine!

If I wanted to knit a baby blanket how many triangles should I have to start with?
You'll need to do a gauge swatch in entrelac with your yarn and then do the math to get the size you want.
Cool thought so thanks x
What size needles are you using your donut matter
I am using US 11's, the size that's recommended for the yarn I'm using.
There's no way for me to tell you that. It depends on the yarn, needle size, and how tightly you knit. My suggestion is to cast on for 5, knit up throught step three, measure what you created and multiply to get the desired width. Rip out and then cast on what you need.

You have to swatch and then do the math. (see the reply above. There is no way for me to tell how many bottom triangles you would need.
Of course you need more dogs. What a silly thing to say! Also thank you for the tutorial!
