Dr Grey's is the most important voice I've encountered as to what prevents and what enables us to come to terms with ecological crisis, and to respond to that crisis as if it was real. Very grateful to see this alliance and connection made with Roger Hallam and Just Stop Oil, and with Dr Grey's best talk to date on the subject, for me.

The Earth is cooler w the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer.
To perform as advertised the GHGs require "extra" energy upwelling from the surface radiating as a black body.
The kinetic heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmos molecules render that scenario impossible.
No greenhouse effect, no GHG warming, no man/CO2 driven climate change or Gorebal.
Pitching fits based on the science illiterate voices in your heads propaganda is also not civil.

Hi Mat, I just discovered Carmody's work in a short 1.5 min BBC radio clip in which she demolished the preoccupation with facts & figures (and I have a background in science too), and the tragic absence of discourse about our common values to motivate people. I'm delighted to see you feel her work is likewise so vital. I intuited an absence of values in my doctoral work and have been for some time teaching creatives about the 2 decades of values education pathway that the peoples' Earth Charter (2000) provides, based as it is on love for humanity and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Thank you so much Carmody for your great work. I am extremely grateful and will be sharing further.

An acceptance of a biblical apocalypse by greedy, and oftentimes- irresponsible humans is a part of why "we are walking off the cliff." Love may well save a few hundred thousand in the next few decades, but sustaining that level of love is very hard when under constant attack ...

Act now or 2C by 2040. I fear a first time arrest, however, I'll focus and weigh it all up and be prepared get through like I always do. There is a ripple effect in everything each of us does. yet, I still put it off. Almost like another of my deadlines. I fret. Distractions. This isn't living.

I put a link to my response in these comments, and it has been removed, so I'll just say that while I completely agree with civil resistance as a proper reaction to the crisis, I take issue with a lot of other things that Carmody says here.

Perhaps I’m of an older generation in my view of and understanding of our collective ecological overshoot crisis. The apathy of society in the face of things has been faced many times. It’s called “the tragedy of the commons”. Globally, we understand the need for sanitation and yet we have never been able to solve the basic instinct behind “littering” and so the planet is polluted with plastic. We have seen many petrol crisis shortages for one reason or another and we have never curbed our appetite for that energy source. We as a society have all the education we could ever need. We have all the governing bodies and structures we could want for the road ahead. Yet human nature seems to be our flaw. Tribalism dominates our rationality. So with a population of 8 billion plus, across 212 nations plus all the adjoining territories out there, with those nations further divided into regions, religions, and resource sectors, I’m not sure humanity has the collective grasp of a baseline standard we can all organically adhere.
Further complicating our human failings is the uneven complexity of the crisis. In some regions, we have to destroy the land to retrieve what materials are needed to save an entirely different way of life thats not available to those whose land has to be destroyed for that benefit. And if those in another region are not interested in sharing their land with those being forced off their lands due to rising sea levels, who is going to impose that new reality on those already managing boarders? Last I checked, humanity has no systems in place to relocate entire regions to other areas of the earth. I recall the experiment in Germany several years ago when nearly 1 million immigrants where resettled by the government on humanitarian grounds. That did not go well. Has anyone seriously introduced these realities to the wealthier nations of the global north?
Civil resistance may be ethical or have an ethical basis, yet it seems like its great banter for the intellectual types. The project managers and land stewards who have to make these “ideas” happen unfortunately do not get these kinds of platforms to inform the conversation. Fellow academics from the architecture department do not count. What do emergency managers, city planners, and law enforcement have to say about how these ideas can be managed. We don’t have time for speeches and talks that comfort the fears of intellectuals. We really don’t. Have the Dr. bring along an emergency manager to a talk on the ethical bases of civil resistance and I think it will level things out as to where the focus of our efforts should be. The instincts and insecurities of the grass roots will have more of an affect on our future than any type of civil resistance. We don’t need to have the problem communicated, we need actors on the ground being land stewards.❤

I am happy for you that you can look outside and see a lovely evening. Others look out their windows at very different scenes -- dried and dead crops, low reservoirs, destruction from severe storms, wild fires, floods. While we do need to notice and be grateful for the lovely evenings in our lives, we also need to be aware that our experience is not everyone's experience.
