    Yes...there are so many you tubers who come with their posts related to harmonica without having knowledge before attempting to teach. I remember one of your posts regarding octave playing. It was of immense help. Even my teacher too appreciated. I regularly watch your posts and keep on enhancing knowledge. Thank you sir

    Yesterday I bought a harmonica, sir. I watched many videos on RUclips related to harmonica but couldn't find a video like yours. I learned so much from your videos in those two days. love you from Nepal, sir. Keep uploading new videos.

    You gave a Simple & clear explanation of the difference between Diatonic and Chromatic, CK! I have never played a diatonic though I have 1 Golden Melody gifted by a friend few years ago.

  • @rischiemusical
    @rischiemusical 2 года назад

    Yes Sir, well explained. Another important difference between diatonic and chromatic harmonica - the most commonly available diatonic harmonicas are Richter tuned and available in various keys, while most commonly available and popular chromatic harmonicas are solo tuned and available in the key of C.

    • @HarmonicaShala
      @HarmonicaShala  2 года назад

      You are absolutely right. By default, diatonic harmonicas come in Richter tuning and Chromatic harmonicas come solo tuned. I was more focused to dispel the myth around the name diatonic as many people including some teachers also do not properly know the meaning of the word "diatonic" and use some weird logic to explain the term "diatonic" 🙂

    Very helpful, Can you explain about tremolo harmonica and how it compares to diatonic and chromatic ?

    • @HarmonicaShala
      @HarmonicaShala  10 месяцев назад +1

      Tremolo is like a solo tuned diatonic harmonica. This means it has a 7 notes major scale available for all the three octaves (saptak). It has 2 reeds tuned with a slight pitch difference for every single note, its sound has a tremolo effect.
      A standard diatonic is NOT solo tuned. It is Richter tuned which means there are some notes missing to facilitate playing of some limited chords in the lower octave.
      Chromatic harmonica allows a player to be able to play all 12 notes of a chromatic scale by use of a slider which separates 2 major scales which are a semitone apart from each other.
      If this is confusing, let me know. I will make a video to explain.

      @@HarmonicaShala great, you have terrific kind of in-depth knowledge, I am clear, I understand that it has 3 octaves/saptak and also has tremolo effect due to 2 reeds. I am also clear on chromatic but I have diatonic. I also like the fact how you talk and relate about both western music and Indian classical - amazing.

    कृपया बताएं मैं बिना स्लाइडर यूज किए हार्मोनिका जो धुन पूरी बजा लेता हूं वही धुन डायटोनिक पर क्यों नही बजती (कुछ गीतों में)

    • @HarmonicaShala
      @HarmonicaShala  2 года назад +1

      ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि एक diatonic हार्मोनिका में रिक्टर ट्यूनिंग होती है जिसकी वजह से low octave में दो स्वर कम मिलते हैं। यही वजह है कि कुछ गाने आप diatonic पर नहीं बजा पाते हैं। थोड़ा इंतज़ार कीजिए। बहुत जल्दी मैं इस विषय पर नया वीडियो लेकर आ रहा हूं।

    I think diatonic indicates to two reeds . I think diatonic harmonics is also like tremolo but it's both reeds have equal frequency

    • @HarmonicaShala
      @HarmonicaShala  2 года назад

      That is not true. Diatonic has nothing to do with two reeds. Diatonic harmonica is tuned for playing the diatonic scale which I have explained in the video.

      Sahi hai. Diatonic mein komal / tivra swar bending karke bajaye jaate hain. 12 hole chromatic ek behtar choice hai. Aap chahein toh ussey try kar sakte hain. Shuruaat mein Tower ki aadat se baahar aaney mein thodi dikkat ho sakti hai aur waqt lag sakta hai. Uske liye taiyyar rahein.

    धन्यवाद जानकारी के लिए । तो क्या अगर कोई बिना स्लाइडर प्रयोग किए क्रोमैटिक हार्मोनिका बजा रहा है तो क्या यह भी daitonic ही धुन है ???

    • @HarmonicaShala
      @HarmonicaShala  2 года назад +1

      जी हां, जब आप स्लाइडर का प्रयोग नहीं कर रहे हैं इसका मतलब आप chromatic scale के स्वर नहीं बल्कि एक diatonic स्केल बजा रहे होते हैं। Chromatic harmonica एक प्रकार से दो diatonic scales के मिलन से बनता है। C scale और C# scale , दोनों ही diatonic scales हैं लेकिन अलग स्वरों की होती हैं। इनको स्लाइडर के प्रयोग से एक दूसरे से अलग रखते हैं और आवश्यकतानुसार स्लाइडर का प्रयोग करके कोमल या तीव्र स्वर बजाते हैं।

    • @HarmonicaShala
      @HarmonicaShala  3 года назад +1

      You are right. There are indeed two notes. One blow and one draw note. BUT that is NOT the reason why it is called a diatonic harmonica. The "diatonic" term is used in reference to the diatonic scale for which it is tuned and hence called a diatonic. That was the whole point I was trying to make. Hope this clarifies 🙏
