The most TERRIBLE Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas (Found Photos)

- While visiting Las Vegas, I learned of an abandoned casino and hotel that was just out of town. I hired a car, even though Americans drive on the wrong side of the road, and went to document it alone. Somewhere in the desert was Terrible's Roadhouse, formerly called Gold Strike.
While exploring the offices upstairs, I found photos from when the building was operational. This included a large folder of photo slides!
I was eager to save and share the images, so I took them with me. I carefully carried the photos and slides for a further two weeks before flying back home to Australia, where I got them scanned. You can see these images in the video.

Opened in 1988 as the Gold Strike Gambling Hall. I worked there from 1989 until 1993. The same owners built the Nevada Landing hotel across the freeway which was closed and eventually torn down. The Gold Strike was a great job, always busy, the buffet was great. Good memories! The principal owners eventually merged into the Circus Circus corporation in 1995, which was renamed the Mandalay Resort Group. In 2005, MGM Resorts bought out Mandalay for $71 per share.
So is this casino still open is it still standing or did they knock it down
In 2015: Burger King was replaced as Denny’s and made a color change
In 2018: Gold Strike has changed their name as Terrible’s
In 2020: The casino closed down permanently due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
In 2023: The casino was demolished and the small hotel well as except for the big hotel
I remember Jason was a manager
@ I don’t remember any Jason. I worked as a casino dealer there.
I am so glad I got served this video! I live in Vegas and don't have the nerve to sneak in there.
About 17 years ago, I rented 62 rooms at $6.00/night with no resort fees. Had a FKKN BLAST!!!! Reserved Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, went home wasted on a Wednesday. GOOD TIMES :)
They should turn those into apartments, since the cost of living in Vegas is pricey. Not a lot of abandoned casinos. Wow!
this used to be a vibrant fun place. sad its over.
Good to see fellow Aussies doing UrbanX in the US. I went to America's rust belt for exactly this reason.
Aussie explorers unite! America has some fantastic locations to explore and I definitely want to go back and see more as soon as I can.
@@thetelltaletraveller7631 They sure do, we got nothing in our country that compares. Though, that's probably a good thing XD
Ahaha, what makes you say that's a good thing?
I said to myself oh she sounds like a aussie girl and it's was i was bloody shocked to see an Australian over in the states urban exploration awesome as
@@Jenzel_Ria but God forbid we walk around your Island and do anything like what you guys do here right
This video is more than 4 weeks old there's only 1 building left on it they demolished the other one over 3 months ago
That HP Ink if its sealed at 5:18 on the desk is about 28-40$ each and can sell within one hour of posting on eBay. :D
I think it's all in landfill now
I was waiting to see some eyes staring back at you somewhere in this video. You're lucky you didn't get caught trespassing.
as a truck driver I loved that place, We had a night job in Vegas, that's was the best place to stop , you can get fuel & eat free !!, I got a room there a few times ( I loved it)
it was old & dated, but that's OK , the doors where solid & heavy, when you shut them, you couldn't here any noise in the hallway & only $25 a night
not to mention how much truck parking there was so sad to see it go
You seem like a cool chic so I'm gonna tell you what happened to that place and why it's so bad. First off it closed and was sold so they could build a truck depot (that's not the good part). Before starting the official demolition and getting permits, the hotel was used to film a mini series/movie. During filming they actually put up drywall In certain rooms to built a set in the hotel. Once all scenes were filmed, they needed to film the end, they had engineers fill the bottom 3 floors and part of the roof with explosives, floors were also rigged with effects charges but only the middle. When these were set off cameras were rolling, most windows got blown out and the hotel was structurally compromised. After all was done they had people go in to check for unexploded charges, the building was dangerous and Noone really wanted to do it, finally a few of us went in for hazard pay. It made me sad to see what they did, prior to blasting it was a hotel ready for occupancy, afterwards it was ruined. The cameras in the parking lot are to keep people out, they still go in many homeless live there however its super unsafe in its condition. If you get caught they make you leave, repeat offenders get arrested but you'll be released in under an hour, here in USA our justice system releases violent criminals and rapists with 40+ offenses, they're not concerned with trespassers.
Thanks for the info. It would explain why the bar area had drywall up.
Have you ever did schools or college or malls or other abandoned buildings
After delivering to the AFB in Las Vegas I would stop here and have the buffet on my way back to Cali. Easy in and out and no charge for filling up my thermos with coffee. Sad, it was named the "Gold Strike" at the time!
Dang, how often did you stop by? I am curious, how would you rate the buffet? I found a few photos of the buffet and couldn't decide if it looked good or not because of the flash they used with the photos... made the food look strange.
@@thetelltaletraveller7631 Most of the time once a week or so, the food was pretty good. Just your basic salad veggies fried chicken and prime rib. I did not want to be a fat trucker so I mostly enjoyed the salad and veggies, occasionally a piece of chicken. (Also) a huge meal would have made me tired for the trip back home 4 hours or so depending on the traffic ..
I would be scared to do this alone.
It is scary alone, especially as a female.
Fun Fact: My sister recorded a cover version of the song Money but not sure which version she based hers off of. I would assume Waylon Jennings version but I am not too sure... will have to ask my dad who made the instrumental to it
Loved the video!!! Good job exploring!
The Las Vegas marathon used to start in the hotel's parking lot back around '00
Opened: 1988
Closed: 2020
I used to stop there for the Prime Rib Dinner, and it was not bad for the price. So, Sad that the Pandemic brought many Casinos and Hotels to close in Vegas and the outskirts. I never spent the night there, it was usually at State Line I would stay but now it looks like that is not doing so well either.
I love that this video has made it to people who had been here before it closed! Love hearing the stories!
Once more glamorous than any on the Strip.
This trucker had a lot of fun at that place.
We always stayed there. I have so many wonderful memories with my mom and family. The staff was amazing and it was so clean. And I always won lots of money I miss it.
OUTSTANDING VID
I was heading to LA and stopped to play in Oct.1989. While playing blackjack the dealer said rooms were only $17! I jumped on the price. Like new hotel room at excellent price. So sad it has closed.
Soooooo.......why is the Jumbotron sign still working?
I used to stop by here all the time. The casino was torn down already.
Great video. Thanks for posting this. Have a nice day.
Used to pass by the Gold Strike and Nevada Landing on the I-15. One day Nevada Landing just disappeared/demolished.
You’re a legend for sneaking in there!! I drive past this place every time I go to Vegas but I wouldn’t dare go in it lol. Only a few videos of this place abandoned exist that I can find, and I heard its also haunted 😱👻
❤❤ such a fun video
Thank you!
This video was posted six months ago..... I wonder if they demoed it out yet 🤔
I'll have to check. It might have gone the way of the Fiesta and Texas Station .
Last time I was on that side of town nothing was left but the Fiesta parking structure and Walmart nearby
I remembered when it was called Gold Strike back in 1988 when it was new.
I like the cuts back and forth!
I would stop and eat at the buffet and gamble a little on my way to and from Vegas. Cool video 🤩👍🔥.
Where is that ?
@@tuyetvo4353 Jean, Nevada 15 minutes from Las Vegas heading south on the 15 freeway.
I love the video, but I am scared for your safety. I hope you take someone with you, there are vagrants and crazies in these abandoned buildings. Stay safe.
Thank you for the concern! For most of my explores I am with at least one other person.
Cool one! 😁😁
Thanks for checking out the video Bob :)
Great content! I can't believe the marque still has electricity. I think I was there a very long time ago. Like early 90's
Thanks for checking out the video! They were using the marquee to advertise the truck stop nearby when I went.
That's strange! They left the poolside radio on before they closed up and left!
Your monologue is so fuzzy I couldn't understand what you were saying.
So the whole thing is demolished now?
I would be scared that their were creepy people inside trying to sleep somewhere.
LOVEEEEE!!
This is in Jean, Nev. not Las Vegas. That's like someone calling Barstow Los Angeles.
Bummer was still stopping in late 2000's as last casino to use real coins/$$. Lol
You do know, this place is NOT in Las Vegas...
Great video ❤
How long has this casino been abandoned?
Not too long, in the video I find paperwork referencing COVID etc
@@thetelltaletraveller7631 you would think with all that equipment to be sold. Thousands of dollars. What a waste of money.
Why was this building not boarded up and pad locked?
Dang beautiful structure it’s to bad it couldn’t be used for homeless housing or something like that from every state to conquer our homeless population
Wow looks like an apocalypse...I'm surprised there are not any squatters there...those Cokes looked good! 😅
I think it was a bit remote for squatters!
I know, I should have tried one hey...
@@thetelltaletraveller7631 very cool!
Pretty disrespectful that you trespassed here and also that you stole from the property and that you were so inconsiderate to your own safety you didn't notice that the police department was right behind the hotel
Your pretty disrespectful yourself
Cool video
This should be turned into housing for overly obsessed Star Wars, Star Trek and Marvel fans.😮😮
You cuss to much
I don't think she cusses enough 😊
The most dangerous thing are other people or gang bangers who take over these places.
ABOUT AS EXCITING AS WATCHING BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, BORING BS.
THANK YOU, I LOVE THAT MOVIE
VHS video 📼 😂 wild
Can't believe I couldn't remember what they're called...
Maybe someone should buy it and fix it up and use it again
I remember the name Goldstrike from somewhere/
Wow, joe biden said everything was going great in the economy. I used to go there when it was active.
An Is interesting exploration video How long have you been squatting at that casino ?
What makes you think I was squatting?
Que lindo :video felicidades
I've stayed there
So once again, how is Searchlight, Primm, Jean or Goodsprings considered to be Las Vegas?
I'm sorry I upset your geographical sensibilities
@@thetelltaletraveller7631 So you do believe, that saying for instance "WELCOME TO LOS ANGELES" and then showing for instance San Diego is fine in a RUclips video in order to - I guess - get clicks and views?
Gimme a friggin break. What an ass
VHS tapes
Hopefully it will be rebuilt by someone
@@donlop9103 it’s getting demolished in the next months. It’s just a shell of a building now.
2:20
This place is Not in Las Vegas, why play the muzik
Because it was close by to Vegas and it's good music!
You need to cuss more!!! Watched you once won't fo it again.
Good Video
Thanks for watching :)
