As always, a thorough review. I love how much detail you cover with absolute honesty. Interestingly, I own an ORIGINAL Seiko Monster - SKX 779 - of the first generation. And I have to tell you - the bezel on that has a small but noticable amount of back play - plus the scalloped indentations on the case do not line up with those on the case, on the zero click. This has the effect of a small, but noticable misalignment. Now this hasn't really bothered me. It was my first Seiko, back in 2007 ( I bought it just as the other colour variants were emerging). Now I'm not sure what to think - whether Seiko themselves had QC issues; or if this is was standard for Seikos; or whether to say that this Addiesdive version is as merely as good as the Seiko, when it comes to the bezel. There is also a barely perceptible amount of lateral side play, which results in a slight clicking sound if one taps the surface. Like I say, this has never been an issue for me. I've worn the watch almost constantly in the years I've owned it, and used the bezel on a daily basis for timing things. I'm happy to say it has stayed consistent, such that nothing has ever loosened over time. Therefore one could say that this Addiesdive homage is every bit as good as the original (albeit better in terms of the NH35 movement replacing the old 7S26 - which has since stopped on me). Or we could conclude that Seiko themselves are not without their own QC issues. :) I just thought you might find this interesting, because I was initially expecting a lot worse of a Chinese re-make. It doesn't seem any better or worse in your video than the original piece it is homaging. I guess the acid test would be to compare the two side to side. Personally, I tend to take these foibles as part of the watch's character; and view it for what it is: a relatively inexpensive but solid tool watch from a renowned brand. Anyway, thank you for reading and thank you for your wonderfully detailed reviews. Please keep up the good work, sir. :)
I love the variety of watches you review. I love having some nice watches but also some more affordable watches that can be worn daily. You’ve got me covered on both aspects.
Thank you for watching Malkin. Glad you enjoyed it. I have reviewed everything from a 10 Euro Casio F-91W to a 20,000 Euro Rolex Daytona on my channel. My first review was a Casio Duro MDV106. It was always my intention from day one to review low-tier, mid-tier, and high-tier pieces on my channel; something for every collectors respective budget. Although I own a Rolex Submariner, unlike many Rolex fanboys I don't look down upon collectors owning low-tier, or mid-tier pieces. I give every watch reviewed a fair chance to meet my criteria of being; "both excellent quality and excellent quality at the respective price point". Regards, #WR4K
On a standard Seiko Monster I have always been perfectly happy with the clasp as it is. You cannot see or feel the stamped clasp whilst wearing the watch. Seiko still uses that clasp on a five hundred dollar Monster and having worn my Gen 1 monster for close to twenty years, it has never let me down. That said, the clasp on the piece you are reviewing here is truly rough looking. I have not tried an Addie's Dive Monster, I like the dial on this one, I have a couple of Heimdaller Monsters and they are well done, they sometimes bite when using the bezel because the polishing on the shroud is left sharp on the corners, I wonder how those edges are finished on your Addie's Dive? I still prefer the Seikos but they are more expensive.
I have bought 6 addies dive watches and they are all good watches. That bezel is not acceptable. The rest of the watch is good. I expect a good watch head when I show it off. I can't show this watch off because it's totally flawed. It's close to the bin unless I have support from addies. Thank you for saving me money. I have other brands but wanted and hoped it was better. Awsome review 👌. Thank you
Great review as usual. It's funny, when I first saw these Monster models I thought: Never ever! Now I consider them, same goes for the Tuna models (typical watch nerd change of taste as time goes on). Seiko is the master of making 42+mm watches wear well on smaller wrists like mine due to short lugs, and I'm glad the homage brands noticed that as well. Maybe I remember it totally wrong, but wasn't the original Monsters a Seiko 5 model (hence the day/date complication and crown at ~4 o'clock)? This Addiesdive seems like great value to me, even though I agree on that pressed clasp and bezel/case misalignment. I always appreciate good finishing on case and bracelet. I own a Type A Addiesdive flieger model and it's a great specced watch with really good finishing details for the money as well.
Thank you for watching. The original Seiko Monster was an SKX rather than SNZF Seiko 5; the reference number was SKX781. The second generation had a similar dial to this Addiesdive Ocean Monster; reference number SRP309. The orange Seiko 5 you refer to is known as the "Baby Monster" reference number SNZF49. Regards, #WR4K
I’m a new monster fan and I love this model. I always remove the bracelets because I’m a strap guy and the bracelets are not for me. I think it’s funny they are homages because they are using the seiko design and the seiko movement so……..it’s really a seiko with someone else’s logo on it for 1/4 to 1/3 of the price😱🤣🥳 I’m not sure why you would buy a seiko over these in all honesty. Why does seiko allow this?? Does seiko get a kick back?? I have both and if I’m honest the homages have more personality. 👏👏
The scallops line up on the bezel and flanks of the case on a Seiko Monster; they don't on this piece (as detailed in the review). Therefore the quality is not equal; although the specification is similar. Regards, #WR4K
But the lume plop.. Looks like someone just dropped a drop of glue where the lume pip was supposed to go. All in all, a rather compromising copy of Heimdallr's homage. Thanks for the review!
AddiesDive do some really nicely executed watches, I just wish they would go with just the logo and stop printing the name on the dial. A very lame name that clearly wasn't researched very well and sounds rather silly. Seems they may have looked at Adidas and then scrambled together something that is quite similar, something the Chinese do with most things. Addie here in the UK has connotations of a nickname for someone named Adams or similar. OceanDiver or similar would be far better or Neptune, anything but AddiesDive😂. I bought the SteelDive version instead purely because of the name.
Not the best build quality, my crown and stem fell out , I was only adjusting the time!! It looked the business and a Black Friday deal,so went for it, few links later, I got it fitting my wrist and worn it most days…oddly enough my scallops are misaligned as well. Apart from those issues. The watch does look great, ( my one is the Orange face) but that honeymoon period seems to be over, not heard from Kitty at Addiesdive……maybe I just got a reject from the production line. ? Crown is now sorted ( by me) and I’ll leave the scallop misalignment as it seems it’s a common’ ish issue. I can live with it, not massively noticeable to be honest.
@@watchreviews4k I had a reply from Kitty at Addiesdive, she is looking into why the crown and stem fell out performing a simple task of setting the hands, seemingly she is in comms with their QC people? And offered me a good discount on any watch I like from their web site….. I’ll wait out on their verdict first… Kind regards, Dave

I think homage watches price with the ratio of 1:3 to the real watch is very subjective. Take the baby monster, its a 1:2 ratio price to this watch, why not get a Seiko instead. It just makes no sense to get a homage. A ratio of 1:5 and above makes more financial sense. That is why we buy homages, because the real watch its unattainable or simply too expensive.
That would be true if Seikos were higher quality. But they are lower quality than for example Heimdallr. Heimdallr watches have a milled clasp and sapphire glass.
Even Seiko had to begin by copying, as did Rolex. You could argue that the rotating bezel was a proprietary design feature until most of the watchmakers went with it. These watches aren't pretending to be Seiko, they don't cheap out by using mineral glass crystals like Seiko do 😂.

But dude, even Seiko use pressed clasps on their $300-$500 watches, so why shouldn’t it be used on a $140 watch?
"so why shouldn’t it be used on a $140 watch?" Because for under 140 USD one can buy a dive watch with a solid milled clasp. Regards, #WR4K
