  • Cars are the most convenient modes of personal travel of all, with more than a billion believed to be owned worldwide… but, while most are simply designed to be a way to get from one place to another, some manufacturers create theirs to be so stunning that they’re virtually works of art in their own right. This is nothing new, of course, and the most sought-after vehicles are decades old… so fasten your seatbelts, and prepare for a journey into the past, as we take a look at the 15 most beautiful vintage cars.

    Where is the Avanti?
This fiberglass supercar designed by John Ebstein, Bob Andrews, and Tom Kellogg under direction of Raymond Loewy and with top power provided by a supercharged five-liter Studebaker engine prepared by Andy Granatelli (rumor was that Granatelli wouldn't ship an R3 engine until it had turned 415 BHP on the dyno), it set twenty-nine records at Bonneville Speed Week.
While Studebaker produced 4,643 examples, only five came from the factory with the R3 engine. The supercharged Studebaker R2 289 (completely different from the similar-size but unrelated Ford 289) was quite a stormer and even the normally aspirated R1 was no slouch in the context of the day.
That the Avanti was the cleanest and most graceful design of the twentieth century doesn't hurt its desirability, either.

I'm not sure I agree with that choice of 15 in all honesty. Mind you, it is entirely subjective. There are many iconic car designs missing from that list, e.g. the Talbot-Lago T150S. I would say there were better looking Ferraris than the 250GTO, e.g. the 250 Tour de France, or SWB, even the California GT Spider would compete on looks alone. Even some of their more contemporary cars were very good looking: the Daytona, the Dino, the 308/328 GTBs, the F40, the 355, etc.. Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, and for Aston, the DB4 GT Zagato is the most desirable contemporary car they made. The GT40 deserves a mention in place of one of the American designs, possibly even a Deusenberg deserved a spot too

We had chargers in Australia then. I almost bought a white 71 fastback as my first car from my best mate whose family owned the wreakers on the Goldie or a Cortina wagon which required little work to be street legal in 1990. The charger was all original even the hemi sang like a dream. The interior however, lacked everything except the gear stick, the screens the pedals, only the steering column and the side mirrors. Everything else was rare to find and more expensive than gold at the time. I feel I would still be looking for parts today and back then, I needed a car. I regretted that decision as soon as I signed the bill of sale. Thank you for including this beautiful car.

More a list of popular fifties and sixties cars than a well thought out list of great designs.
Agree with the comments on the DB4 Zagato for the best Aston. Saw one in person once, great looker. Admit to a soft spot for classic Zagato design work.
Love Gandini's Stratos but am not sure beautiful is the best description, excitingly chunky with a side helping of brutal maybe? Have seen one in person also. Brilliant design solution on such a short, challenging chassis. Love.
My top 3 post war are, at the moment in no particular order, the xkss, Miura, and the 53 Maserati A6gcs pininfarina coupe, short nose.

While none of these cars look bad, this is really a list of very expensive and rare vintage cars that look good, rather than the most beautiful. IMO, the Karmann Ghia, Talbot Lago, some Tatras, the original Jaguar S-type and maybe even the Nissan Figaro (if it's not too new) would beat at least half of these cars. If I parked my Honda e next to any of the cars on this list, I'd bet that most non-car people would look at my compact hatchback more than the car worth 100x the price, even if some would laugh. What would be great is a video along the lines of the cheapest car when new that now looks and is worth the most.

The missed Mustang as the most beautiful was the 69 Mach I SCJ . I had a very rare 69 1/2 build date. My car was fully loaded with options that were a mystery until the day I sold it. It was a Mustang Mach 1 SCJ with the GT package. It was black with red interior and deluxe interior. I had a council that I had never seen in one. I never saw another one at all like it , but the build sheet noted everything ordered. I was the second owner. It was good or bad timing when I purchased it. I was very interested in a Porsche 911 and really wasn't into muscle cars. The car was beautiful until I pushed it to it's limits. I'm a driver and just had to do everything McQueen did. I put it into a spin at about 95 and almost took off my right front tire. I had the low gears and it's top speed was about 115 . It was stock but I did upgrade the shifter and I had traction bars . I learned to skip second gear to stop the tire's turning and get it to move. Ironically it was the small displacement cars that were a challenge and one late night I got into a run with a 911. It was a rolling start at about 30 and the Porsche couldn't move ahead I never lost him on my left rear. I was white knuckling the wheel while he was adjusting his tie .I had one last push straight but over a slight hill. I raised the car full air and the wheels chirped three times before it straightened out . I put the pedal down full until the motor was going to come apart. We both just shut down and he waved and turned off the highway. My car looked faster and better than the Porsche , but looks are deceiving when it comes to performance. Great Performance is the most beautiful car. 😎

Sloppy use of the word "beautiful" is happening here. Unique, innovative, popular and significant are some of the words which could describe several of these cars. An example is the 427 Cobra. It is absolutely one of the most brutal looking cars ever, but not beautiful. The Cunningham C4RK is another example of a car which has absolutely brutal styling. Both of these brutes are downright stunning, but neither could be called beautiful. I would say that the Cord 810/812 should replace several cars on the list.

Yeah the Charger? It was cool but no Deussy. At least another list of 15 before the Charger let it start with 67 Tornado or Camaro.

Emerica Hagens We could be here all day talking bout the most beautiful cars we remember and I'll just leave you with a few more Any Duesenburg, Boat tailed Auburn 1936-37 Cord, forties Lincoln Contential ( and I an NOT forgetting bout the 1938-41Cadillac series 60special neither) And whatta bout 1953 55 Studebaker coupes '56-'57 Contential mk11s or any of the 1963- 67 Buick Rivieras, I know I might be deviating from what this video says are the most beautiful cars but it's pretty tough and you can still see a few more of some of the cars that I metioned beacuse they were a little more numerous. For what it's worth every car they picked deserved to be there!!!!.

Lots of cool cars here, specially the Charger, Corvette and both the Cobra & Shelby Mustangs. In my opinion those are the best cars on this entire list. Can't go wrong with any of them for classiness and speed.

For my 16th birthday I got one of the first Corvettes to be made. It was a beautiful car in a metallic blue with beige interior. Man I love that car I thought it was so beautiful I'm back then there were many sports cars around if you could call it a sports car and it was quite a hit I had friends I never knew I had before. But let me tell you it was a piece of junk it couldn't get out of its own way and every time it rained the cabin flooded it had a step down cabin and when it rained it poured. I went and had all the doors lined with rubber so that it wouldn't leak summer came long came along and the rubber all came on glued my mom said you got to get rid of this car. I was heartbroken I weedled and did everything possible not to get rid of this car but in the long run I had to get rid of it it was really pretty bad beautiful but not good not well made and I ended up with a Chevy Bel Air I think it was man I hated that car from the moment I got it until I got rid of it. And sad to say I only have one photograph of that Corvette in black and white thousands of photographs but only one of the car. Well I'm rambling everybody have a great 2023. I just saw the section on the Corvette I thought I did have one of the first one but the first ones were all white I guess with red interiors and mine was blue so I don't know where it came from in the line but that's it even they said it wasn't so hot.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone, I love vintage and classic automobiles, but I don't think the U.S. has ever built a beautiful car, ever. The Cobra is really a Ace AC. The Ferrari 250 GTO is rare and expensive, but not the most beautiful. There is the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, GTS, and the Spider. There is no mention of Alfa Romeu, Sunbeam, MG, Triumph, Lancia, Austin Healey and Ford U.K., the list goes on... Italy may not build the best automobiles... but when you talk vintage, few surpass Italian design. Greetings from Portugal.
