Maybe the Sea God was a kind of foreshadowing? Guts went up against a god, and he had to strike at a giant heart covered in eyes that resembled the Idea of Evil itself. He couldn't do it himself he needed everyone's help in doing it. If the merrows' unified voice could inhibit the Sea God, then could humanity's in the Astral World against the Idea of Evil, especially since the Astral World is influenced by mankind's thoughts?

One thing that struck me is how Roderick and his crew are dressed as if they're from the age of enlightenment, while Guts and the others are dressed more middle age.
Well, the late middle ages and the Renaissance in Europe had a lot of blending with each other more like a transition between the two so i would say it still makes sense technologically.
Well Roderick and his crew are from Vritannis one of the richest and most prominent cities under the influence of the Holy See, who have a strong presence there. Many of the most prestigious of the noble families reside there. The city seems to be much richer and more modern than the kingdom of Midland. Roderick and his men are well paid and well know as they command one of the largest war galleons (boasting a near 60 gun armament!) in the fleet. Its safe to say they would have all the best and most expensive clothes and gear. Whereas Guts is a common mercenary from a small and less wealthy kingdom and his squad are basically country folk besides Farnese and Serpico. Farnese and Serpico don't care to wear flashy outfits any more after leaving the See so they prioritize utility and function over form.
Honestly, great addition to the story. I mean, that has to be the most time consuming monster Miura's ever had to draw, right? I think it's worth having in there just for the sheer spectacle.
Whales clicks can temporarily paralyze humans and even kill them quite easily. So I love that he added this detail in there. Imagine the power that heart would have to produce for all of that blood and tentacles ~
The loudest creature in the world is the blue whale, and it's also the biggest. The noises it makes underwater can be so loud that a human in the water next to them can die from the vibrations and frequency lol.
@@anactualguy8257 No water can actually carry sound more than air or atleast ultrasound frequencies. It's because water particles are closer to each other. Whales can communicate across large distances thanks to it. Which is why they evolved to be tbe laudest creature on earth.

And it was a little more personal. It would have been more disappointing if they had this long boat trip and nothing happened during it
I think the sea God was necessary for Guts's sword enhancement. We know already that his sword is different due to all the astral creatures he killed whit it, but like I said I think this was the last piece for a god slayer enhancement with the blood of a god.
This was completely necessarily. Ocean “gods” and creatures are such a huge part of every civilizations mythology. I mean think for a minute~ we’ve only mapped out a small percentage of the ocean, and in 2016 discovered a living organisms below the ocean floor, that doesn’t react to anything we try, that somehow lives without sunlight nor heat. It made the world so much bigger as it should be. And yes, I was frustrated by the boat arc, but it fits as the time. It always would peeve me a little how in movies/manga people would travel so quickly by sailboat and berserk went too far in the other direction ( I felt at the time) but it added so much potential.
Dang it's so strange that these chapters were released at the same time as the Pirates movies, you could never feel that whenever your binge reading this series.
Yeah another similarity between the sea god and the monster in Deep Rising, the octolus is that the tentacles look like they are individual creatures, but they are the least of your problems
i loved that arc the most in fact. The gargantuan beast is representative of something like an impossible foe, an impossible challenge. But Guts goes in there anyway to fight and kill that thing.
Of all the scary shit I have seen in berserk , those possessed inhabitants of the island were one of the most eerie and uncanny imo... There was just something weirdly scary about them ..
@@hernehaugen6878 Well that was more of a way to connect people to that story. 'Yeah, that story is in the exact same universe as Cthulhu and was made by H.P Lovecraft'. Man this thing is a combination of Star Wars’s Sarlacc with Pirates of the Caribbean’s Kraken and an assimilating hive mind from various Sci-Fi horror stories.
The time on the boat seems to take a long time because it took so long to write and create. Going through the finished product, I didn't find it to be too long or anything. Also if anything, I wonder if the Sea God and Ganishka's 2nd form weren't supposed to be parallels to each other. Guts, full of determination to save his friends, refusing to give up in the face of seemingly impossible odds, manages to kill the Sea God with a single slash of his blade.
The Sea God was a good demonstration that in this new High Fantasy world the apostles and everything to do with them are no longer the only massive threats and features that affect the world.

I think that it helps show the level of creature that exists in the astral world, and also just how badass the god hand are. If it took this much to beat a creature like this, what would it take to beat a god hand, if possible at all
It's interesting that you bring up a combination of mythology on this monster; given Guts has his own ties to mythology, I think those ties are worth exploring in the next video, given Guts connects to and resembles many different characters from Norse mythology such as Surtr, Odin, Fenrir, King Arthur, and many others I can neither remember nor list.
He has similarities with beowulf, killing monsters, sometimes having to improvise a great deal because of his foes inherint resistances and with, heracles, being strong and having anger issues.
He also has similarities to a real life historical figure; Götz von Berlichingen, also known as Götz of the iron hand. He was a German knight and mercenary with a metal prosthetic arm.

@@ousou78 but we get a new caractere
@@ousou78 yeah that's my point also. I am agree with both criticism and second point that it introduces the new world to us. And i think these things will play tragically and destructively in future.
@@ousou78 Yeah I agree. I rad Beserk in literally 2-3 weeks of insanse binge so pretty much every story point was enjoyable to me. But I 100% understand how someone waiting years for the story to move forward would have been pissed at what seems like a longer than necessary detour.

17% more handsome? Count me in.
Oh my GOD Lovecraftian sea Horrors are so COOL
It’s all fun and games until an astral pistol shrimp fucking snipes you from underwater

Ryan: Into the mouth...
Me: OF MADNESS!?
The Exploring Series on RUclips and Spotify had a really good audiobook of the shadow over insmouth
I really like the Sea God arc. The only bad part for me is that it took way too long to get done (years, in fact). But I think it adds nicely to the story
Honestly it was a nice change, guts going in the other direction of the world, and him slaying a giant creature showing that despite everything, he's still Griffith's equal, Griffith killing Ganishka and guts killing the sea god is nice addition
Doesn't the tentacles remind you of the monster from Deep Rising?
Another way to beat the sea gif is to hit it with something as large as it like dropping an entire island on it or find a way to get it on land at which point the sea god would likely collapse under it’s own weight
It also looks a bit like the Marlboro from the Final Fantasy series (also I want to submit Grumbeld for the next monster manual episode please :) )
Marlboro! Badass monster!
bad breath
It's not a party until Cthulu shows up
He looks similar to Yogg-Saron from World of Warcraft.
I liked the Sea gods parts, I just wish they realesed more then one book per... Long time unit.
The Tentacles reminds me of the tentacles from Stephen King’s The Mist.
The tentacles look like the ones from the mist.
Loved the Sea God and the other world building stuff introduced, and my God some of the panels were gorgeous, but it did drag on a bit with not a lot of character development taking place.
It reminds me of that space tentacle thing the size of a planet (don't remember what it is called).
When I saw guts getting cornered inside the big sea god I was like....dude u r trapped😭.....then the merrows came out singing😌💕
