How to set up a Wired MIDI Network with No Router

  • This is a tutorial for synching two Macbooks with MIDI using a standard ethernet CAT-5 cable and no router. In this tutorial we are running Resolume on one computer with Ableton Live on another. We are sending MIDI notes from Ableton clips to play videos in Resolume, and also controlling the tempo from Ableton Live. It's a little complicated, but this is a LIFE SAVER for doing synchronized A/V running one computer for sound and another for visuals. Good luck, and leave a comment if this was useful for you!

    Awesome, thanks, this is very helpful! Makes you wonder though why this isn't a lot easier... you really need some networking skills to just midi sync 2 macbooks. I mean, it IS 2018, right? :-)
    You could do this via WiFi with Link enabled, but the connection never stays stable.
