2 years later, just to add there's a Trangia deeper frying pan - they call it Saute pan - fits the T25 which fits at the wider higher level on the T27 if you're stir-frying. Yes makes the packed size bigger but I also saw you had a plate, so there's some other options to eat out of the final "bring it together" pan. If you're not eating out of the frying pan - I usually do eat out of it - you can put some water in it and leave the flame going to begin the process of softening foot stuck to cause easier / no washing-up. I usually have a soup base packet to make a soup drink from those release pan water dregs.
Good tip about the water. Yes, I do clean the pan like that and I find it works great. I have just ordered a saute pan, so Im keen to see how this works with both my 25 and 27. Thanks for watching.
Life is better without custard, a great video and I like the fact that you don’t use gas. Is there any chance that you could make a curry on the trangia. Keep up the good work
Better without custard? Hmmm, not sure I agree. As you might have seen if you've looked around the channel, I've cooked various stews, chilli, fish and pasta on the Trangia, but Ive never done a curry. I'll put something together, but Im not sure when it'll be on video. Thanks for watching, it is appreciated.
I can certainly do a gear video. It might be better to include gear comments in the other videos as I have a heap of gear and it might make a gear vid too long? Maybe? I'll give it some thought. Thanks for the idea. And thanks for the compliment about the videos and for watching. I appreciate it.
Nice video mate, I've been experimenting with a trangia as well recently. I really like them as I find I can ACTUALLY cook on them. I used to do a bit of work up in Hunua, and hadn't realized the park is so pretty?
I like the Hunuas for a place for a relaxing overnight camp. No stress, no big walking, just a quiet get away. Yes, I find that Im cooking more stuff when I take the trangia. Its sure beats freeze-dried meals. Thanks for watching.
What an enjoyable vid m8👍had my 27-2 Cookser for about 2 weeks but only boiled water in the kettle. So I’m itching to cook. Thx for showing us. Brian D.🇬🇧
Hi from the 🇬🇧 just found ur channel and subscribed 👍just watched your Trangia video and I'm off out to make some breakfast, realy enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing sir👍😁
Would be great if you could put a location link in the description or a map on the screen to show where you are. Even though I’m from NZ I have no idea where the Hunua ranges are!
Hunua Ranges are the main southern water catchment area for Auckland City. There are 4 storage dams in the ranges. Located in South Auckland. Link in description.
We could do a rich dad poor dad collab. Pete with all his shiny new lightweight gear and Dave with all his op shop, blackened & repurposed heavy bushcraft gear.
You look just fine in that nice expensive top. I’ll call it first…. Congratulations on getting to 200 💯. Now if you want to see real tough stay tuned for my next vid, change of undies is required 🤣
@@OutdoorsmanDave Expensive?? It was 50% off on sale. Yes, I squeak when I walk... Thanks for the (premature) congrats. Looking forward to your next vid.
Funny, all my stuff from op shops or garage sales too, I have bought 4 Trangia systems at garage sales, including one BRAND new, so I could be the piggy in the middle of the rich and poor dads, except I'm not a guy...
I really like the idea of using a quilt, rather than a sleeping bag. Who is the maker of such a quilt? It looks like it makes things much more comfortable.
I find it far more comfortable, even in winter, and there is no issue with warmth as long as you have a quality pad. The quilt in the video is made by enlightenedequipment.com/ in the USA. You could also try ugqoutdoor.com/ in the USA. There is a kiwi company making them: www.kiwiultralight.co.nz/
Your meal looked amazing (I have subscribed) would you please be able to put the recipe in the description? Especially for the sweet and sour sauce I have just bought a trangia and would love to replicate it on a trip. Thanks from Steve in Christchurch
The sweet and sour sauce I made wasnt great and I wont make it again. I have since discovered a range of sauces by Lee Kum Kee, which are in the supermarket, and they make a S n S sauce much better than mine. I suggest you try theirs. I have and will use it again. The rest of the stir fry is simple: Onions, pork, pineapple and cashew nuts. Add to the pan in that order. Make sure the onions are cooked, then add the pork. Once that's cooked add the pineapple, add the sauce, add the cashews. Done. You can have it on rice or noodles. I use precooked rice, just heat. Thanks for the sub, its much appreciated.
Thanks for the recipe and sauce update I really appreciate it. I will get hunting for that sauce at the supermarket before my next trip. Looking forward to future updates on your channel. Regards Steve
From one O.A.P to another, can you tell me what fry pan you were using for the pork stir fry ? Great videos from the otherside of the world. Cheers mate. George.
The fry pan was the standard pan that came with the Trangia 27 set. It might look different because it is hard anodised aluminium as opposed to the standard ali that the set is usually made from. Thanks for watching.
Looks good! How do you normally carry food when you hike? Do you normally freeze meat and then let it defrost? Do you carry ice packs with your food to keep it cool?
No ice pack. Yes, sometimes I freeze and let it thaw and other times I will just pack it in the middle of the pack so its out of the heat. It was only 25 Deg C on this trip, so no real need to worry it spoiling during the walk. Thanks for watching.
I have tried a number of mics. In this video the first third is with a Rode Go Wireless. The battery died while fliming, so most is the internal mics in the camera. All my vids are filmed with GoPro's and I find their internal mics to be fine.
Nice video😁🤗👍🏻 It made me hungry watching that yummy meal being made..🤗 subscribed and following..😁watching from Petawawa Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 🤗 I just bought the trangia 25-0 UL/HA and am planning on doing videos cooking on it for RUclips..wish me luck🤗

Always enjoy a good trangia cooking video
Im pleased you said a good video! Thanks for the watch.
Just ordered a T25. Love cooking outside. That looks amazing!
Its a great set. Have fun. Thanks for watching.
Love my Trangia, great to see some people still use them!
Yep, me too. Thanks for watching.
Wow, this man does really know how to eat well in outdoor.
Yep, no reason not to eat well. Thanks for watching
Everything you cook on the Trangia looks so succulent. You are inspiring me to do more with mine 🤗
Yep, you should, For some reason it always tastes a little better cooked in the bush.

looks good mate,
i just got me a trangia cooker . its brilliant. im from the south iland.
i used mine on st james walk two weeks ago.
I should use mine more often. I do tend to take far too much gear and cook way to much when I do use it. Thanks for watching.
Great film, and yummy dishes 😋🔥
