Great video Charlie. I am convinced the rabbits are trained with my pens. Goes right to the snare and stop. Won’t go in the pen. Lol

Through experimenting with winter rabbits which are much smarter then the early fall rabbits, IMHO... You'll get a ton more refusals if the gate is under 6" in width. Making gates 6" - 6.5" lowers the amount of refusals big time.

Rabbits aren't stupid that's for sure. A moonlit night isn't great for catching rabbits because they see the wire and will brush the snare aside. Also young birch tips is better than old birch. What the heck. Makes it more interesting. Pitcher cord is all I used years ago & I only had a few broken. Martin roll around if they get caught & twist the wire off prettty easily. We don't have any martin here on the Avalon but they could move in. It would be nice if they did. Thanks Charlie for sharing.

I'm going to do a little experiment again. I need to find out why the pens work good for me and some others and not so good for the rest.

Now I haven't had any luck at all this year, some of it is because I haven't really been at it like I like to, but I can't say Ive noticed in the past about the birch colour being different but will definitely try your advice if I try again the year. That was some picture you took there. Had a chuckle when you said your daughter didn't sent the Granddaughter to school to spread it she sent her up to you to spread it lol.
Day 2 , thats one smart bunny 🐰 🐇 might be bugs bunny. Congrats on the one in the pen, nice size one. I think i need to try those pens as well.
Awesome what you're able to do with the school stuff like that needs to be in more schools.

Thanks Garry, LOL... Yes the kids really seem to enjoy this program. 6 pens built today and we are hoping to get them set out next week. Here's an interesting fact. When the rabbit populations explode, the first thing to attack the rabbits is the birch tree. I will talk about this in my next video...

yes 100% but I hate having to cut birch tips if I don't have too and I knew where there was some, I wanted to try first that I won't have to cut.

100% agree with your birch tip theory. I find the buds on the red ones are more sticky and I would assume because it has more sugar? i dunno but I agree. rabbits are getting smart!

Those rabbits must have been already out to Darrell Wells pen and already knew what was up with those pens. They are getting smart Charlie.

yes they are, I need to change the birch tips in the first two pens, old tips I got from where a fellow was cutting birch early in the year. They must be to dry...

Them sniff the black pepper them sneeze 🤧 from the pepper and hit his head on the rock 🪨 cause him to be kill or knock out . Pass down from my great grandfather Charlie . One ☝️ hand ✋ on the bird is worst more them 2 hand in the bush. 😊
