I have been riding a motorcycle for the past 11 years. I always try to follow the traffic rules to the best of my abilities so that I can be in a safe space and not bother anyone around me. I bought a sports bike a few years back and became a part of a group that taught me a lot that I am missing. Yes, our motorcycle culture needs responsible people in it. Past 11 years I got only 1 ticket for my PUC. Be safe everyone.

We talk about how the week was, enjoy the sunshine, and so on. Life is good. That's our culture. Whenever you're in B'lore, pls join! 😊

I'm not a motorcyclist or an enthusiast, but my husband is. While he's out on a ride this Sunday morning, I decided to listen to your podcast, and I must say, it was a great decision. I wanted to drop a comment and express how wonderful it is to hear such meaningful conversations that are much needed in today's world.
Your podcast not only makes me believe in the good side of people but also helps me better understand and trust my husband's motorcycling enthusiasm.
Thank you for being a considerate motorcyclist and for encouraging youngsters to adopt this responsible behavior. I definitely feel safer on the roads knowing that you and your listeners are out there :)

Over my 35 years of riding on Indian roads, I find that truckers not only have a very tough job, more importantly they are the most considerate of all the drivers out there, so I've always made it a point not to hustle them and also to wave an acknowledgement or thanks when they give you space or let you overtake or warn you when not to overtake on blind turns, etc. The local, rural sub 3 ton Tata 407 and other smaller ones are at the other end of that spectrum. Those guys can and will try to kill you with absolute disregard, change lanes and take U turns and block your overtakes half way thru or block you in or swear to never ever look at their mirror. So it's important to distinguish and be kind to the former and be very wary of the latter kind, of course you can be kind to everybody to set a good example or atmosphere. Also that a double tap on the horn has a much better effect than multiple long single taps in grabbing attention. In fact long press on the horn usually has a hostile effect. Waving thanks or other pleasant gestures directed at the invisible drivers, even thru mirrors usually always sends a good vibe. Because on long highway trips, you may encounter the same vehicle somewhere later on the same road and there comes a sense of friendly familiarity rather than, there's that asshole again.

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  4 месяца назад +8

Great points in there! Thanks Srinath! The long-horn versus the double-tap really, really works!

    • @adhokshravishankar
      @adhokshravishankar 4 месяца назад +2

I'm with you on the truckers being considerate. There have been times when I'm stuck behind a bus/truck and if I want to overtake, the first thing I try to see is if the driver gives any hand signal. If says wait, I pull back, wait for a clearing from him. Once he does the had motion of go ahead, I overtake.
But yes, do make sure to give him a wave or a thumbs up. It makes their day :)

The first thing to do in a crash is to check scene safety next is to check breathing and call for help

First few minutes itself Shumi nailed the image that bikers have even in their own family (organ donors, dangerous mode of transport, solo riding looks sad). I'm a late bloomer in terms of getting my license and getting into motorcycles. But I got pulled in hard immediately and now this is my best escape from the hectic work life. Thankfully instead of the algorithm recommending me "Vertical Videos" of people being "bosses", I got Strell, older Shumi and Karthik (PD and Zig), so I keep with calm riding styles with immersion as the priority. Big thanks to you guys for being the primary guides since I started 2 years ago. Also I wish riders here accepted all bikes instead of shooing certain models and their rider for the difference in taste. In the end it's all about that feeling right

What a brilliant conversation! These are the kinds of conversations we should be encouraging. Even when I started motorcycling, I was very taken up by social media and I thought it was cool to do what everyone else was doing.
Only after deeply reflecting and realising the amounts of risk I was putting myself and everybody else on the road did I realise that group rides aren’t my thing. I’d rather ride safely, and responsibly, than chase adrenaline at the risk of my life.

Sometimes solo rides makes us feel a lot safer especially when you're surrounded by some idiots in the form of friends. I did only one group ride as of now and the rest were solo. It was fun for me because I got the chance to talk to myself and also be considerate and patient while riding. Been doing this for a year and I swear at no point I felt boring. Motorcycling is all about experiences.

Yesterday I did a round trip of around 320 km on my activa. Yes I've my limitations being on an activa on a super smooth highway i.e, sticking to the left lane at 60-70 kmph and giving way to faster vehicles(almost all vehicles are faster than me expect trucks) and yes I did it without compromising on my safety. Surely I don't have any riding gear as I'm jobless for few months hence my pocket isn't able to purchase me all the riding gear but I trusted my riding skills and my instinct such that I did no stupid things which might had put me at risk. This is more important than having or not having electronic aids on a motorcycle as a debate. Yes ABS should be the standard one and traction control if power > 40 bhp.
For me motorcycling is all about stress relieving as well as meeting new people. Riding a motorcycle in full riding gear on a highway feels like heaven for me. One thing to note is motorcycling is a selfish hobby and not everyone in your family are gonna support it and that's fine. It's your job to convince them to follow your passion.

Shumi, I know you said you don't like to organize but I have a suggestion. You talked about similar minded ppl who are passionate about bikes (Anand,Zen,Zubin,Kunal,Josh). If you bring these ppl together to one of the episodes of ThisConnect to talk about motorcycles in general, that would be a great experience for the viewers. Just give it a thought. I know the usual style of ThisConnect is you two guys talking to each other but think about these ppl and you guys talking together in the finale episode of this season. That would be a banger of an episode and a great way to end the season.

I'm a 23 years old, working and some months back I purchased my first motorcycle, Meteor 350. I totally agree with the biker culture you pointed out, sadly I was also influenced by it, I used to think drag races are cool, red lining the Enfields is way to go and unfortunately I did it on my Meteor as well. But later on youtube somehow recommended your videos and alongwith some other podcasts which I watched, I had lots of realizations about the way I'm riding is wrong and how it's affecting my motorcycle and other people who are driving as well. It's hard to find videos that teach you something good. I've still lots of things to learn but I'm happy that I'm atleast out of that culture and became more empathetic towards other folks. Keep posting such podcasts and contents, your experiences teaches me alot of things.

The more peculiar & cautious you get, the more difficult it is to enjoy a social company. Best case scenario would be leave your bikes at home, chat for a while about stuff & go back.

I just passed my French driving licence. This first aid topic are basic chapter mandated in our driving theory test called "Code de la route" Only when we pass this test we can be present in the practical driving exam.
for a motorcycle/Car crash the basic answer for us is don't move the persons until emergency services arrive at the scene & unless they are not breathing/having a cardiac arrest/or fire, drowning in the river do not attempt to free or rescue them.
after this only experience I've learnt the reasons not to move people who have just got into an accident.

Man I didn't even realised it was 1 hour 6 mins long. Great Conversation as Usual and Great Video.
    1. The knowledge of Shumi is just on another level and, in my opinion, unmatched. I know his Motorcycle Database is as big as Wikipedia but his knowledge on other subjects and ability to acknowledge the different prespective of same topic is admirable. I like his realistic approach to things, being honest about his opinions and opinions which are as striking as Point Blank Shots. My favourite dialogue of his is " You don't have to agree with me eventhough I think I am right".
    2. I think even if you are a teenager, you can understand what is stupid and what is right. I used 'Don't Recommend', 'Not Intrested' and 'Report' more than anyone and I used those options 90% on a "BIKER CONTENT" than anything less. By that I started going for more better and real Motorcycle content made me discover Shumi, Karthik, Sagar , Rishaad and many great motorcyclist out there. My RUclips, which subscribed 30 something BIKE Channels in past now have 5 Great Channels that give me Great Motorcycle Insights and Motorinc is at P1.
    3. I can relate to Shumi's story of people being nice to him for a great motorcyclist. Once I was parked on side of road checking who called me. I saw a Car driver ( I think it was an Hyundai Eon ) who was going to take U turn. Its a 2 lane road and from my limited knowledge of driving I had then, I knew he would need to Reverse if I don't move. The only thing I did was I moved my Scooter just a small distance forward and went back to my phone. That man stopped beside me after completing the U-Turn and said "Thank You" and It made my day. So Being nice on road makes you feel better.
    4. I do same thing as Karthik when somebody do something stupid infront of me, I think It's somebody close to me. If that''s a gentleman at his 40s and 50s, I automatically thinks it is somebody like my Father or if it is a teen boy doing some mistake ( not stupidity ) I automatically thinks it's my brother. It calms my emotions and canfocus. I would rather focus on my Driving and Riding rather than spending my emotions on them.
    5. I like the nice touch of Shumi having Motorinc logo on his Watch.
    6. I think Motorinc should start merch with Shumi Quotes. I would buy the ones with these
" It's not like that there are such dumb humans who don't even learn from their own mistakes." and
" I don't think human beings are dumb. I think everybody has a brain. Some people just refuse to use it and that's a Problem."

I love the intent and content delivered by MotorInc and this is one of the best episode you guys have produced. This really hits home, because when my father taught me to ride his Splendour, he was adamant that I get the learner's permit first and a helmet, plus he made sure I use the indicators while turning and respect the signal. Now I'm much more ethical rider than him.
Anyway, there is a class of youth, the one which cannot be bothered to watch a channel like yours or who can comprehend English, can really use this kind of message to improve their riding habits, what are your thoughts on bringing this message to that youth?

Being a good human being (rider) is so underrated. My father always used to say "your respect is in your own hands". Today's bikers need to understand over speeding, doing stunts on roads, over revving engines and riding while wearing shorts and slippers is just attracting bad name to the community. You want to do outrageous stuff, go book a track. Spare the drama for roads.

I did a test where I forcefully pushed my bonnet into the oncoming traffic when I found an opportunity vs. putting down my window and showing this gesture 🤌🏼 to allow me to pass. I was stunned to find 8 times out of 10, even BEST buses and autos would wait for me to pass if I'm patient.

This whole conversation reminded me of this. Back in 2016, I took my bike on a long road trip. Starting from Delhi to Dwarka, then covered west coastal roads till last point, then came back up to the eastern corner via coastal roads again. I did it during monsoon period and because of that, I've seen this country in its most beautiful avatar. I only had a good helmet and shoes to protect myself and was driving under 90-100 for most time, only stretching to 90-100 for frequent overtakes if I have to. I didn't had a smartphone so I wasn't assisted with GPS either. All I did during that trip was seeing this country, talking to new people, eating local food, and be there. Once I finished it, I was welcomed by a lot new people, bikers, etc. who wanted me to join their groups. I never joined any group nor did a group trip as I used to say (and still believe) that I'm not a biker. I wanted to travel this country and that bike was my cheapest way to do so, and I clocked 11,000 KMs in about 60 days. After that, I had done a similar trip in a tempo traveller and have been doing similar trips on bus, truck, train and now car. Traveling is my core agenda, setting records on vehicle is not. And the benefit coming out of it is that I have never met a single accident.

I picked up bad behaviour and here i am , I overtooked rickshaws roaring my engine and 2nd gear knowing that those guys were trying their best to take their vehicle fast enough on a uphill colony road , i got impatient and irritated but i should not have done that , seeing other people do it felt im not good enough in overtaking i felt a lack of skill which is okay because im a beginner i should have been more considerate, I got my ego hurt when 2 guys on a access passed my on a ghat hill section with such a pace i could not keep up and i felt bad ( How can a scooter of 125 with double riding be so fast and im on a bike wtf) instead of chasing them i should have continued riding on my pace which is was comfortably riding as a beginner, later further on my commute a chetak electric one smoked me on highway zoomed from right and passing between 2 trucks like a idiot but that time i thought woah i lack that skill how is this guy so fast although he was a idiot i was surprised of how he was alive and passing others while in the process i chased him couldn't keep up i felt like a chapri to be honest i got humbled. But i will be more patient and considerate while encountering such people and mind my own pace. I will never try to race anyone but seriously getting smoked by a access with two people on it feels so bad 😂. And when people check turing their head behind is even more triggering. I'll follow that stay below peak torque tip maybe for safe overtakes. Seriously i need to control my ego on my motorcycle.

The only thing that concerns me is that I'm not very social and don't have a group of friends interested in long rides. The thing I am unsure about is I'll be riding solo, and in case of any mishap, whether there will be anyone who knows what to do and also whether I will enjoy solo riding, but I'll have to try it first to find out. And this episode has helped me to understand that even if I am a solo rider how I can ensure my own safety while respecting others space. Its a simple thing brother. Even I was in your phase 1 year ago. Just go for a 200 km ride solo and note down your observations. Try to replicate this multiple times. If you feel comfortable and safe, you'll probably have a great time riding solo. What I noticed while in a group is I have to take multiple stops be it fuel or food or selfies. I'm not that kind of a person hence I choose solo. Even if you are planning for a group, try to make maximum of 4 people. It will make your experience significantly better as you'll have loads of fun together without compromising on safety. I wish you great motorcycling. BTW what bikes have you shortlisted?

And the maintainence is a tiny bit expensive in case of 400X. CB350 is built to last as its Honda and offers better mileage. Take both test rides and if possible rent them for few hundred kms and come to conclusions as showroom test rides aren't the correct way. First of all know what is the cruising speed you'e gonna travel at. If its under 100 kmph then Highness will serve the purpose fine without compromising on fuel efficiency. Pick scrambler if your travel includes mild off roading. In that case scrambler makes you comfortable. Even the cruising speeds of scrambler is similar to Highness i.e, 90-110 kmph but the mileage will be slightly less. Happy mile munching.

I got my first motorcycle at 24, met with an horrible accident from which I came unscathed due to the gear. The accident was due to no fault of mine and the trauma caused was so brutal I have intense paranoia on roads even on scooters, I only drive five star rated NCap(whatever that means) German cars now such that my highway mileage is 20Km/L. I know to be patient and considerate but the problem is I dont think it is reasonable to expect them same of other drivers on our roads, the accident effectively killed my motorcycling dream simply because I know there are rash drivers out there and skillfull, pateint and considerate driving alone doesn't ensure my safety on a motorcycle. The near misses in our country is the norm rather than an exception.

Cam I boast about something here.?!??
I have not tested top speed of my dominar. I now own it for almost 3 and half years. Forget top speed, may have crossed 130 like maybe 10-12 times and never because I wanted to touch 130, it was natural for may be a overtake or an empty stretch of highway. I am not scared of testing top speed. It's just I never wanted to test it. There is no reason to test it. But many people have asked me and I have told them I am not gonna ride at 140+ than what will I get testing it.
Any way to anyone who think I am scared, I always clarify that I have burst my pulsar engine by riding 120 speed from kochi to pondicherry before dominar. And that is why I ugraded. I have done 1lakh+ kms of riding mostly solo in 5 years.. So I can ride 130-140 but I think it's not safe and why would I ride unsafe..
Some rules that I learnt from riders like you are: may be some from shumi also.
    Never mix alcohol with riding.
Ride within your and your surrounding environment limit.
Ego is never ever required during ride. I would rather loose to a splendor that putting that splendor guy's life in danger chasing me.
You are as fast as slowest guy in group. So plan accordingly.
Follow rules as much as possible.
Always ready to learn and consider yourself learner.
Biggest one is be patient. It doesn't cost much time. Maybe few seconds here and there.
P.S. I am scared of ridingmy father's scooter at 40-50+ speeds. It's just feels unsafe. I don't know how shumi drives them at 70 or 80.. 😮😮😮

I rode between Coimbatore to Dhanushkodi 800km up and down.
A solo rider on my Jawa 42. I'm solo rider who has a bias against group riding (specifically superbike rides).
As Shumi said, I'm a rider who enjoys riding consistently below the peak torque.
On the way to Dhanushkodi I saw a group of riders riding litre class bikes including harleys (with hard luggages performing unnecessary lane changes quickly). I was at 80+ consistently.
The group riders passing me at 100+ with loud exhausts. I was like, let me stick to my plan and not get distracted.
Just before Ramanathapuram on the National Highway I was just about to enter the district and 5 kms away. In the road I could clearly see rain lashing my route, I just stopped wore my rain jacket, and started riding peacefully. I dropped my speed to 60+km. I saw these guys on large bikes standing under a tea shop just waiting for the rain to stop.
Once I was past the rain and 30 minutes gone past and sitting at 80+, I again saw these riders, again riding past me at 100+ km.
When I reached Rameswaram. I again saw these guys waiting for the rain to stop and by that I went past these guys and reached my destination.
    My takeways here are these.
    1. Their riding character made me think - these guys have a very narrow view or idea about super bikes or high performaning bikes. These guys could've easily managed the rain comfortablly with the available safety electronics and reduced speed. Riding super bikes doesn't necessarily mean you need go quick and fast always with loud exhaust. The goal there was just to ride fast and show off.
    2. Now I see how great it is to ride below peak torque and sit at comfortable spead and pace. How beautiful and peaceful it is. Thanks to Shumi.
    3. Going quick and fast is just a very minor part of the motorcycle culture and unfortunately that is what is shown on social media.
I hope this podcast reach the right people to spread awareness on responsible motorcycle culture.

I completely reject the "concern". What you are describing is the human condition, nothing to do with bikes or cars. The majority of humans are **** ups.
There are tourists and then there are "bloody tourists".
This entire episode can be captured by just saying "Don't be a bloody tourist".
The same thing can be observed in Goa, where the bloody tourist always acts like an a***hole in Goa. The bad biker are just this, "bloody bikers"

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  3 месяца назад +1

May be so Shantanu but we're thinking in a broader context here. Let's take the tourists example. Sure, there are good tourists and bad tourists and ideally, people shouldn't profile everyone as the same. But that's not what happens, is it? Because of their past experiences, people might be hesitant or worse still outright deny hospitality to the next person, however good they themselves might be. The same seems to be happening to the motorcyclists community right now and we'd like for people to realise that and do better before a bad opinion is stamped on all of us.
We can't say "I didn't do this so why am I getting impacted?". Humans as a species are evolved to recognise and brand unideal situations and protect themselves so, everyone has to want to do better. We hope this makes sense.

33:23 The way Shumi's expressing his concerns about motorcycling tells how worst can the culture get driven by the so called biking culture. Till now I thought that motorcycling and biking are no different but from now, I consider myself as a motorcylist as I respect other drivers around me. Being considerate and patient are the core principles that makes a motorcyclist and whenever I see somebody in full riding gear, having pizza boxes(top box) and revving the nuts of their engines, I feel bad about us how we are represented to everyone as as***le community and bla bla...bla. When I saw IBW for the first time online, my perception was "Are these people representing us as motorcyclists by revving the nuts of their engines and riding like assholes?". I think it's time every passionate motorcyclist comes together and show everyone what real motorcycling is so that atleast the future enthusiasts gets the chance to ride on some of the best expressways in India. We are already suffering from this hence I request everyone to teach right principles to their fellow riders which will make motorcycling beautiful. Hence lets make motorcycling fun and beautiful again!! Shall we?

Agree with most of it, but there are certain undertones or axiomatic proclamations I disagree with.
It is around the praise/acceptance of over -licensing culture that Europe & India have, with the talk of legislating bikers out of existence. For ex, in your Austria example, I fail to see how the people who blocked roads for 2 wheelers are good guys and not small tyrants.
Similarly, while I agree with all the sentiment on being nice on public roads etc., the talk of "owning" the road by locals is just not the correct way to look at it.
If my tax money is going to repair and maintain that road, should I not get any say in how it should be used? And if not, then please let the locals fund & maintain them, and I would be happy to pay toll & sign consent forms per use basis (if there is any road at all, that is).
It is a mutually beneficial agreement we have, so assigning ownership & the "real right" sounds idiotic & doesn't lead to any good place.
Lastly, while all the advice about not intimidating people on public roads is right, the converse is true as well. We, as Indians, are deeply resentful to people who are successful & happy (or both). A rider with decent bike wearing a gear checks all these boxes, and there is just repressed hatred towards this kind of person not because of what he does, but who he is.
I have a measly MT15, and I get enough of "why you got this impractical bike" ques. I can't imagine what it must be for Duke or god forbid, Kawasaki guys. My point being, we as a culture, don't have any acceptance of an activity like leisurely bike riding/touring. So no matter how accommodating you try to be, they will still hate you

amazing you guys should do a similar one on SUV culture, we just saw what happened in GGN where the 5star SUV was coming wrong way & killed a person. And I am from Delhi NCR, going wrong side on that cyber city road is just plain arrogance & disregard for the life of other people ... nd this person was a repeat offender

Beautifully discussed brother. I’m 20 and got my license 2 years back, I’m the guy who always encourages everyone to wear seatbelt even in third row, without fastening belt I refuse to move the vehicle and trust me it makes me feel secure as a driver to drive when they’re safe. It has prevented many small mishaps or road rages just because I was confident because my family was just extra safe and I avoided those small small mishaps. Road safety is nothing more than some value education lecture I believe. Also I would try to be a little bit more patient on road and be more forgiving. Adios shumi and Kartik, would love to learn in your track school once I get my first R15M😁

I think we should be taught and tested for these things by our vehicle licensing authorities, before licenses are issued to commuters. I believe in India we don’t test how to drive or ride, we test whether one knows how to operate a motor vehicle. There’s a big difference.
I lived in New Zealand for 3 years, and still hold a valid NZ drivers license from them while also holding an Indian license for far longer than that. It took me four tries to qualify to drive in NZ. The three times I failed, I attribute it to unlearning all the bad driving from India.
Now that I’ve been back for a few years, I see that it annoys others on the road when I’m the only one that’s following my lane, or honouring right-of-way, or giving and expecting others to give a 3 second warning via their turn signals before actually changing lanes. I find people dangerously overtaking me all the time, even when I’m following the speed limit, and that frankly is just the effect of what we are taught and not taught.
One can have all the right skills and display all the right behaviour; however what is correct in India will mostly be dictated by what we are punished for, rather than what we are rewarded for. If the police catch a motorcyclist just because he is wearing gear, and let go of so so many who make right turns on signals even though they are standing on the extreme left; then that instinctively tells us what our society expects and respects. Hint: it’s not being considerate.

Motorists need to respect the regulations even if they may personally disagree with them
If they feel very strongly about an unfair or ridiculous regulation then they should organize themselves into an activist group and lobby for change
However we are already seeing stricter enforcement of speed limits which may even lead to FIRs
High profile car accidents with fatalities to bikers, cyclists and pedestrians in all probability may lead to things like speed governors and strict bhp limits
Of course some mororists will flout these and the consequences for the rest of us may be even more draconian

Just a tangential point from the discussion at the 41 minute mark. I have ridden 3 different well run in Himalayan 450s now and all 3 of them had a very well behaved 95-115kph zone that just smoothed out from the initial harshness. And that happened at a point much beyond the recommended break-in of 500kms. They all went much smoother at the 1800-2200km odo mark. Three is too small a sample size to gain any significant knowledge, but from forum discussions as well, it seems the himalayan smooths out over 2500 kms. I have to point it out because I consider it to be the only Achilles heel in an otherwise perfect Indian ADV (no I have zero issues with a tube tyre). The himalayan story has really gotten lost in that vibey character narrative.

Everytime I have bought a new machince car, motorbike, heck even scooters, I have been asked this question and my answer is I don't know I haven't tested and don't intend to.
The other question that is common is, I heard that this bike/car is not stable at 140/150/160/170 etc speed. Did you feel it and my answer always is you shouldn't be doing that on Indian Roads.
I love this podcast and I learnt something new today which will make use the roads better.

I’ve been driving for almost a decade now, and had always considered myself a car guy. I rode gear less mopeds to commute for the major part of my life, and never had I even tried riding a motorcycle with gears. A year ago, I picked up my first bike, and a month ago, sold that and upgraded to something better. In total, I’ve been a motorcyclist for about a little over a year now. No doubt, I am absolutely loving it. Did a few solo trips, and rides with friends. The reason I am mentioning this is because, this podcast answered so many of my questions, gave me such lovely insights and I just gained a lot of guidance as to how I should enjoy motorcycling responsibly. As a beginner in this space, I really had no idea about these things and how to go about it. Since I don't know anyone in my circle who likes to ride(and I am from a small city) so I had no point of reference and watching those high speed videos on highways always made me feel that maybe I am not made for it since it looked damn too dangerous. Finally seeing Shumi and Kartikeya Sir speaking about it, it is very encouraging for guys like me who like the idea of touring on bike to learn and grow . And what kartikeya sir said about slowing down when there's intersection coming , I thought maybe experienced riders wouldn't have this problem and they would have some magical talent to speed through it now it feels like they are just playing with their luck. So thank you for guiding us and season 2 of thisconnect is going awesome can't wait for upcoming videos.❤️

    Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
On the topic of 'motorcyclists v/s cops', I feel like the main issue is that most of us know about the existence of MotoGP, and the fact that they're covered in different 'clothes'. The cops see these clothes on the road, and go like "If the people I have sometimes seen on TV wearing such clothes are going so fast, these guys must be doing the same too."
The problem is that there is very little awareness of riding gear aside from helmet. Like people will tell you to buy a helmet, but what they are not aware of is the fact that not many injuries occur there. Sure, you'll get a concussion, whiplash, but atleast you'll be functioning in a few weeks. However, if you are only wearing a helmet, and nothing else, your chances of being in the hospital for a long time increases dramatically. Sure, you won't get head injuries, but dude, is that worth having a fractured arm and broken legs?
What Shumi sir said is very true, we don't do enough to make a good impression. The people going 200 on public roads and filming that might be doing that for fun, and might be the best rider in the world off-camera, but what you're showing is you being reckless, and there are enough people doing that on camera, to correlate biker=bad, and that's the problem. And underage teens like me get easily swayed by that for the most part, and think, "That's what biking is," and we try to do that and be 'cool', which increases the hatred towards bikers, and the good motorcyclists are not noticed, who actually ride well and follow the rules.
My friend tells me how he pulls wheelies on his father's RX100. Sure, I've learned how to ride at the age of 13 too, but I don't plan on riding much till I get my license, although I do go for a few rides here and there. He's 16, by the way, which just proves the whole point of this video.
    -Best regards, Ajinkya.

This is the single most important video/docu/podcast made on motorcyclists, for motorcyclists, by motorcyclists. From a personal standpoint, being a silent member of the motorcycling fraternity for the past decade, I am so grateful to you guys for getting together and putting time into this - this most important video for motorcyclists.
Shumi and Karthi are one of the few motorcyclists I hugely respect, idolize and try to learn from. I have been following them through the various media outlets they have graced with their presence and expertise since my incipient days as a motorcyclist.
Thank you for drawing the line between Motorcyclist and "Biker". I have had numerous debates with my fellow riders about the distinction between the two.
Thank you all for making the effort to educate the masses to be part of the solution rather than adding to the problem. All of you at Motorinc are the trailblazers and torchbearers for responsible motorcycling. More power to you and Godspeed my dear friends.

I agree with a lot of points, as someone who is quite young and was trying to get into 'motorcycling' it was very difficult for me to find groups/clubs to be with. Because I did not already have anyone in my circles with this hobby, I turned to social media to find groups and met with a good number. Unfortunately, riding with all of these people made me feel very unsafe due to many reasons like the group itself being not disciplined or even due to the skill gap(me being on the lower end, which is completely fine). There have been times when I attended some events where I just totally felt out of place and even started questioning if I was even a 'motorcyclist'
We need more people to encourage being considerate to make sure we do not get legislated out like shumi mentioned which has already started happening in a lot of the bridges and expressways

  • @analyst-karanbabar

    Be considerate.
I learnt that we are lacking consoderation the ehen i started dropping my kid to his playschool on a scooter. Had to take a right turn into a gully for the school and people wont even pause or slow down to let a scooter pass by which clearly has a kid with his school bag. Troubled with the situation bacuase I want to teach my 3 yr old consideration, but end up teaching him "Jahan hak na mile waha loot sahi". I dont think old saying of us having "Bada Dil" stands anymore in the urban folk.
Thanks for clearing that considerate people exist and we just need to be taught more of it.

Such an important topic , very well covered as usual. I’ve been to MTM and IBW - and the different just could not be starker.
As with everything in life, I believe a “growth mindset” is the most critical element. Actively disconfirming beliefs with data and inputs from others experiences has helped me improve tremendously as a motorcyclist.
Today’s community solutions (general office/apartment whatsApp groups , manufacturer driven groups etc) - all hinge around a common something - office space, apartment or bike of choice. We need a way for the common “something” to match on to be the core motorcycling beliefs/“frequency”.

Since I was a kid, whenever I felt down, I'd take a ride on my motorcycle. 90% of the time, I'd come back in a good mood and with a solution to my problems. I've probably tried every riding tip Shumi has mentioned. I won't stop motorcycling even if the culture is fading.
However, I'm saving for my first car because of safety concerns. Riding gear is heavy and inconvenient to carry around, and a recent Fortnine video has made me question its safety. I've been searching for a solution to this problem for months, but without any luck. It looks like I might have to give up something that's been so important to me since childhood.

Never did group rides unless they were with friends I grew up with. For precisely the same reasons - I don't identify with what today or even earlier constituted as "bikers" or "biking culture". Teenagers without DLs coming in crocs, w/o any safety equipment and driving and drifting at insane speeds. Never rode again with them. Problem is tier2 and tier3 folks want to emulate all cool looking cultures minus the safety considerations. Biking is becoming another source of reel making hobby
