I think you can also do this without debug mode and level select cheat codes by beating the game with all emeralds then going back into that same all emerald complete save file and collecting 50 rings or more. But I don't know for sure because I'm bad at getting all the emeralds and beating classic sonic games.

Ok so if you have debug mode make sure it is on then after you make sure it is on hold the x button then press the 3 lines on top of each other then if debug mode is on you should enter the level select screen.
I think Triangle is to go super, square and cross/x are the buttons to access level select (press square down and then press cross/x) and circle isn't necessary for this.
You all know there's another way to get blue supersonic so you go to green hill zone in debug mode you go to a trampoline that's covered with a leaf and you get the s monitor and just you are about to turn into supersonic you go back to debug mode and u let go and your blue supersonic!

for debug mode all u have to do is get 16 medals by the bonus stage at the checkpoints

3 - mark the option called "flying super sonic"
