I don't know if anyone will ever read or find this comment, but wow did the artist who made the music for this game do an outstanding job in keeping the feel of Half Life in these songs. The amount of dedication they put into this game is amazing.
Ikr Joel Nielsen is right up there with Kevin Bailey imo I would love for them to work together on a game soundtrack one day (especially for Valves games :) )
@@Reinboa Kevin Bailey?

"I don't know if anyone will ever read or find this comment"
Literally the top first comment.
@@T--kq3pj it still is.
i wont lie, the black mesa OST is much better than HL1 OST IMO
I have never heard a more masterful use of distortion.
Something terrible is about to happen. You know it, but you won't turn back. In fact, it already happened 19 years ago. Anticipation and nostalgia at the same time - now there's an emotional cocktail one does not often get a chance to sample. It's why this is the most memorable music on the soundtrack.
"Let's back to that night were it all started "
- *MAX PAYNE*
@@remimartin8493 yea black mesa ost remind me max payne 3 ost a lot. as whole half-life 2 ost. Industrial is a cool genre.
@@BloodyArchangelus there is a mod (halfpayne) not bad ☺️
This song does such a great job at foreshadowing the chaos the world is about to be thrusted into. It's the last normal day on Earth, of kids going to school, college parties, business meetings, music, etc. It's all about to go to hell.
I listen to this every morning on my drive to work. Makes me feel like Gordon Freeman
I like that high contrast between inbound themes in HL 1 And BM. In original Half Life, the track was an eerie ambient with some "lightenint" parts, like you having this feel that something isn't right, but in the main you just happy being on your first day in scientific facility
In Black Mesa, it has more drammatic vibe with tensing drumms, giving a feel of upcoming disaster. You know exactly, that everything's about to go to shit, yet you approaching it's epicenter...
The man himself noticed me (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
@@Жойлес congratulations you just got attention from the man
Like today
"being on your first day in scientific facility"?
it wasnt gordons first day at work, presumably
@@onyxJS but it was your first day as a player
When you listen to Black Mesa Inbound soundtracks indexed from 1 to 3, you notes that each time it's getting more and more resonant as you are moving toward the anomaly, something that killed millions if not billions of people because of some underestimations from the physicists.
Scientist back in the time during the first atom bomb testing, they feared that the detonation could have ignited the oxygen surrounding the athmosphere and scorched the earth's surface. But still that didn't prevent them from performing the test anyway.. Even if there is a possibility of destroying everything, they share the same urge of "thrill seeking" with psychopaths.
@@tychusenfieldlarsson206 perhaps its just child-like curiousity
@@DS-qg9cd no normal child has curiosity about destroying earth.
@@epsilonarcaneresearch1945 well, those in the Manhattan project apparently were normal kids
@@tychusenfieldlarsson206 Technically it was more about nitrogen fusing in the atmosphere in the heat, thing is they calculated it if the chance of fusing on collisions was 100% with the energy released by the atomic bomb, it wouldn't be a possibility even if nitrogen fused 100% of the time. In reality the chance was much lesser so it was basically impossible for that to happen. They did those calculations to make sure the atomic bomb wouldnt destroy earth.
This is really deep emotional and serious song
Best piece of the soundtrack. I listen to it way too often.
how can this piece be so original, yet evoke nostalgia? great job Mr Nielsen

This make u feel, like something big is coming.
Even though this is part of the original score for Black Mesa, and not directly from the original game, I find it very evocative of the overall atmosphere of Half-Life. It translates to sound the way I'd feel playing through long sections of the game on quiet sundays back in the day. Great job by Joel Nielsen in capturing all of that.
+prmaguiar Yes, yes you describe it well.
This track is the audial embodiment of high-tech industry in full swing and I love it.
This song is like a beggining of all,Aliens,Military,Lambda labs and most of all, The Combine.

The introduction of this game was too epic.
"Good morning Mr Freeman,
Looks like your running late."
"Barney has been pretty scarce around these parts, guess his bar tab finally caught up with him."
I have to admit, I kinda have a hypothesis that Barney may or may not have drank a lot before the Black Mesa Incident. I mean, the line about the bar tab, him telling Gordon he still owes him a beer in HL2, it all adds up that Barney drank quite a bit.
@@connorgolsong290 He probably drank a lot too before the seven hour war. I cant Imagine the pain he felt about the world slowly going to shit and that Gordon Freeman Is not coming back.
And not to mention that he survived and escaped black mesa. Seeing all the chaos and death must have done a number on him.
@@trager8933 Yeah, poor dude just lost almost all of his friends, his job, and the world is being invaded by aliens. Imagine getting out of Black Mesa only to realize that Gordon, Gina, and Colette weren't so lucky. I'd probably get blackout drunk.

That song reminds me that i am one of the few doctors in the state (of my country) who have not been infected in the COVID-19 pandemic world, and who are dedicated to the epidemiology area.

This one has a feeling of inevitability. The beginning of something huge and unavoidable.
"Work safe, work smart, your future depends on it"
"Remember, more lives than your own may depend on your fitness."
This really made me shed a tear as it makes me think that, all these people in the BMRF, they had lives, families. Most had a promising life ahead of them. To have that taken away from you in an instant, whether you die in such an event or you survive to live through the consequences (Half-Life 2) is a massive **** you moment in my opinion. The tram ride is just one big emotional moment for the player as it makes you feel for most, if not all the employees. Always reflect on this...
on the other hand, there was a Black Mesa Science Team that were using xenian lives as subjects for their experiments...Questionable Ethics.
To me that train ride is like someone somewhere telling me - “Look! See all these people?! See all their routine activities at the distance?! See them idling and chatting? See things going their own natural way?! Well...remember these moments forever, because in a few hours they will be gone forever and nothing will ever be the same again!”...
Holy smokes... The soundtrack of this game is something I can't even imagine... 0:52 to 2:00 was my most favorite part of this soundtrack. While riding the tram I almost teared up of how awesome the game's atmosphere was, while this music was playing in the background... This is now my #1 favorite soundtrack totally beating Deus Ex: HE's in my opinion. Valve should hire Joel Nielson to do the music for the next Half Life, if there is one.
It's amazing ... The music really makes you feel how disastrous the Black Mesa events are, and how hopeless you are to stop them.
This Soundtrack fits perfectly in ravenholm
What an expertly made track.
We all know what is going to happen and this track conveys that feeling perfectly
*2 minutes into Anomalous Material Failure, 53 casualties was confirmed.*
When the Covid outbreak and quarantine begun, my country was 5 months deep into a civil uprising so over the top it forever changed most of the urban landscape (even with makeshift memorials of fallen protestors which was horrifying). When I went out on my bycicle or in the bus downtown looking for job as thousands were doing the same, I used to listen to this while looking around and even if the dread feeling was amplified by the song, it gained a unique place in my heart.
Joel literally composed an artistic impression of a piece of my country's history while totally unaware of it. I know its a coincidence but a badass one and please please keep doing this, you are amazing
May I ask which country ?
@@trager8933 Chile! One of the many countries where between late 2019 and early 2020 went full riot, here it was literally overnight but it was kind of deserved. A popular saying here is that we have europe’s cost of living With african wages, which sounds ridiculous but Also technically correct

"A reminder to all Black Mesa personnel: regular radiation and biohazard screenings are a requirement of continued employment in the Black Mesa Research Facility. Missing a scheduled urinalysis or radiation check up is grounds for immediate termination. If you feel you have been exposed to radioactive or other hazard materials in the course of your duties, contact your radiation safety officer immediately. Work safe. Work smart. Your future depends on it."
This sounds like the apocalypse itself. I love it.
I can't find the words to describe how amazing, melancholic, and dramatically tense this song is. It's too good
Security Guard: Hey, catch me later and I'll buy you a beer!
Me: I'm gonna hold you to that!
This track goes from the average mild suspense typical of the Inbound tracks to mounting dread over what's about to happen, kind of like how the AMS experiment actually went.

All three of these songs fit together really well into one single 8-minute song foreshadowing all aspects of the disaster that will take place.
i hope this music well be on a movie somewhere
"I remember it as if it had just happened yesterday... Well, considering all the years I was gone, it really didn't happen all that long ago. Riding the familiar transit system to work, preparing myself for just another task within the Black Mesa facility... Yes, that name certainly brings back memories. Looking back at it, it's hard to imagine and believe everything that has happened. How could I have known? How could anybody have known..? We were all fools. Just puppets of "his" plans...

the droning, guitar-like sound in the intro honestly sound like a warm welcome to the return of gordon freeman, even if it’s only gordon freeman pre-half life 2
Мотив этой музыки я наигрывал на пианино еще в далеком 1987 году.
Sounds awesome.
2019
This music is meditatively wonderful, but... at the same time, a bit of a risky creation. It can sound somewhat underwhelming on average speakers, as opposed to compositions with clearer melodic motif. When I switched to my okay-quality headphones, though, the impression changed drastically, the tune becoming a real imagination gateway.
Yes, obviously music sounds better on decent headphones, but some tunes (most of the popular ones, I guess) sound quite satisfying even on the phone speaker, at times. This type of immersive music right here is a wee bit more demanding of a guest.
STAHP! Don't shoot! Im with the science team!

I feel like the part from 0:52 to 2:00 will kinda be music for a stop motion flash back of black mesa or hl2 Gordon will have in a future half life game. I keep listening to this music it’s sooo good lol.
