What’s the “The Monuments Men” movie about?
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys - seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 - possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind's greatest achievements.

I would say this is about the only shooting action you'll get from the whole film but, its nice to see the No.4 in action on a Hollywood movie.
I prefer the №1 Mk3.
Wish we had more of these two, amazing comedic duo
No! We need an Asian and a black guy as duo! White only is rhasis!

Unfortunately John Belushi was gone
John Goodman's M1 Carbine would have been better suited to the close quarters combat inside the building.
@@Horsemanray LOL touche
the carbine is also more suitable for covering fire.
True, but it also provided better cover fire than a bolt-action rifle would. That rifle wasn't the best choice for urban work.
EXACTLY
Less cumbersome and easier to aim and fire with the .30 carbine round than a 30 06
Better fire control and less wasted ammo than a grease gun or Thompson
In case you could not tell these men were not trained infantry so the carbine was an excellent choice
good thing there's extremely loud beeps to cover up the swearing so we can't hear the rest of what he says
Bleeping the entire tirade kind of adds to the comedy, I feel.
Has nothing to do with them lmao. Its so the channel doesnt get demonetized @steiner554
@steiner554. Yeah, Swearing, nudity and sex are taboo in the U.S but violence is not. Talk about messed up values.
@steiner554 Americans love swearing. What? lmao.
These two actors performed in a film that won the Best Picture Oscar, "The Artist" (2011).
there was a similar scene in the old war movie "The Bridge at Remagen" - but there the US-soldier shot the boy. the kid used a MP-40.
WW2 was brutal. Tons of kids were fighting at the end but the Soviets were slaughtering them. They didn't care. The Soviets saw what the Germans did to their people and were hellbent on revenge.
Mr Brown was so annoyed with Paddington Bear that he joined the armed forces.
That kid has a hell of a aim
nah the other guys where just not real soldiers lol, one of them old af too^^ if real soldiers wouldve been there kid wouldve been smoked by a nade before the soldiers wouldve even knew they just naded a kiddo^^
You can hear goodman reload with a distinctive click at around second 55.
I love the sound of a reload, just makes any movie wholesome.
@@vocnisicle Carbine charging slide
The M-1 carbine was magazine fed and lacked the distinctive “ ping” given off by the far more famous M-1 garand. It held 15 rounds of .30 carbine. .30 carbine is essentially a supercharged handgun sized load. Bullet weight of 110g mimics the weight of a .38 special but with 3 times the powder charge. Todays 5.56 or .233 in the AR-15 is meant to mimic this round in ballistic performance
@@matthewcaughey8898 he said click not ping
Thumbs down for bleeping out "merde" - and I usually never take time to explain my thumbs down...
Maybe the us version as usual for snowflakes ...
Yep, there is cursing and there is cursing. Here, there was a lot of unnecessary bleeping.

Esse filme é simplesmente maravilhoso. Eu tenho ele em DVD. Ainda bem que existem pessoas no mundo que prezam a identidade, a história e tudo o mais que está contido na cultura de todos os povos. Muito obrigado.
I agree there are too few in the world today that care about culture and our history as people.
I love that little carbine. Not really the roll it was designed for, but still a fun design
A quick count has Goodman firing 21 times without re-loading: no wonder the Reich fell.
My 30 carb held 30 rounds
@@upandaljm Not with the short mag he's using :)

I'll pencil this one in--the understated facetious drama of the storyline in juxtaposition to the reality is refreshing
I think I meant the term, "satire"😁
If you haven't seen Madonna and Child in Bruges, be prepared to be moved to tears, even if you aren't religious.
If this was the movie Fury brad Pitt would have put a round of white phosphorus in the building.
Such an underrated film.
American soldier : "Maybe we keep this to ourselves. French soldier : I think that's best.
Lol, funny. 😂
That didn’t look like a Mauser the kid was using. What kind of rifle was that? The only bolt action rifles I know of in that time with a extended magazine were the Lee Enfield and the Mosin Nagant.
looks like a steyr straight pull rifle m95
It was late in the war. By the time hitler jugend and the volksturm was deployed they pretty much had to give them any weapon they could find. Even captured soviet/allied weapons.
It's either a Gewehr M95 or an 1889 Mauser. We don't get a great look at the rifle, and there are a few differences between either rifle I've seen, but the overall designs and profile is a close match for either one. I'd personally say M95 is the closest with the profile of the magazine.
they converted carcanos and gave them to the volksturm. Theres some videos about it on youtube.
K98 was a bolt action
Hermosa película. Gracias
My God... people seem to either idolise the film, or have a distilled hatred for it and/or Clooney being in it...
I think that some people who hate the film never even watched it
Clooney must have loved this era. Fing Nazi
Never going to watch it, don't really care either way. But the uniform the kid is wearing looks off. I'm no expert, but wouldn't he just be in civilian clothes OR in a basic grey Wehrmacht kit?
@@againsttheleftandright4065 it's a mix of Hitler youth and random boys clothes

James Granger = William Garin
Richard Campbell = Baloo
Claire Simone = Galadriel
Walter Garfield = James P. Sullivan
LOL, M1 carbine that never runs out of ammo!
If you listen really carefully you hear him reload
He fires 5 rounds, then reloads at 0.54. He then fires 19 rounds, which would be consistent with a 30 round box magazine... but there's only a 15 round magazine in the gun (plus you could maybe assume one still in the chamber). It's not the most egregious example of Hollywood ammo counting, but yeah, he does fire more shots than he appears to actually have loaded. ;)
@@davebalaam I don't think anyone really had 30rd M1 box magazines until Korea. There were probably a very small number of them in circulation at the very end of World War II but I doubt a Rear Echelon guy like these "Monuments Men" would have them lol.
@@tinman3586 Yup. Didn't know they weren't common until Korea (I just went off Wikipedia). As I said, you can see the magazine (most clearly at 1.08) is only a 15-round mag.
15 or 30 round detachable box magazine

lol, that Carbine looks like a toy when John Goodman holds it
It did look like the Erma EM1 (a german made .22lr trainer rifle for the M1) when he held it... :D
Honestly, pretty accurate. There were child soldiers during the Battle of Berlin, and Hitler Youth were usually where said child soldiers came from. And a gun from a child can kill just as well as from an adult, so…yeah. Nice little scene.
British soldiers at war. "I say, good fellow, sit and have a drink, why don't you? Spot of cognac, wot wot?"

John Goodman Matt

The Monuments Men
I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters and I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxx
Fat John Goodman is definitely a real war hero.
Actually the Hitler Youth were among the most fanatical Nazis, willing to fight to the death rather than surrender.

Who knew James P. Sullivan was in ww2
How can you used a kid as human shield
A bruh moment.
How many bullets were in Goodman's gun? He didn't have a banana clip or a drum.
He has a modified M1 protagonist garant, it only runs out of ammo for dramatic reasons.
it was an m1 carbine with a 15 round detachable box magazine chambered in caliber .30 carbine.
your welcome
The Name?
I am conviced, the Garand makes a huge difference to any bolt action.
For sure ask any Allied soldier who had a Lee-Enfield
It's not a Garand but a M1 Carbine. And it's definitely a huge step tactically speaking. There are archives of the Germans speaking about how their men were way more effective with the STG44 than with the Kar98 because they could keep firing while moving, instead of having to stop, "unshoulder" their rifle, cycle the bolt manually and shoulder it again.
Yeah semi auto is big step up to bolt action. Here he is using M1 carbine. Would honestly be good gun for the time for urban combat. Way better than the full power bolt actions generally used. Garand also is maybe the best general issue rifle of the war.
wow never saw the movie but right before the reveal i thought what if it was a child ..

"We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write 'fuck' on their airplanes because it's obscene."

Truly fiction, in real life the kid would have been shot on the spot.
I can only wonder how the encounter with the kid would turn out if it was with the Soviets instead, i don't want to imagine that.
@@Juggernogger64 US soldiers would have shot him without a doubt. In war nobody cares and must not care about age of the enemy.

The amount of shitty bleeps edited into this clip by Binge are just awfull! You can even tell the editor probably doesnt even speak a single word in German as nearly an entire line spoken in German gets bleeped out. (Around the 2:00 mark). The movie is great, but this clip was ruined.
The line was in French. Jean Dujardin is playing a frenchman and "merde" is french for shit.
@Tin Man Goodmen character wouldn't of been able to run across the clearance, the carbine fires faster and has more rounds in it making it a better weapon for suppression.... i.e. fire and maneuver the foundation for modern combat. Suppressing an enemy is far more important when it's come to moving. Thus the person who can fire the most shots without reloading is the suppressor while other move forward so they are in position to make the best of the few shot they have.
You don't know military tactics , I wouldn't want a bolt action being responsible for the pinning/suppressing fire as you have 5 shots and about 2 sec between shots
Thus if the bolt action tries to suppress another bolt action, it doesn't work out too well since the enemy is feel to engage due to the slow rate of fire being used for suppression....
I mean really there is an argument to be made that an M1 Carbine would be a better close quarters weapon due to its lighter weight, shorter barrel, higher magazine capacity and ability to follow up shots more quickly. I assume the French guy is using a SMLE No4, which is able to hold ten rounds. There also was the "Mad Minute" shooting style with the SMLE that at least doubles the fire rate of the rifle at the sacrifice of accuracy, which is what you'd want when laying down suppressive fire.
Really the difference between the two weapons is small enough that it comes down to who actually is willing to close with the enemy. Which is what we see here.
@@lordofspearton8643 i.e. Goodman character not making that run lol
Lee Enfield is different though
It's a very suppressive Bolt Action rifle depending on the users due to how smoothly they can operate it for rapid fire
They can fire and cycle so quickly that the enemies thought it was a Semi auto or MG if they fired in group
hm all i heard was bleeeeeeep
