Lots of care gone into this, fantastic build! Would love to see how it all looks mounted and operating.

Thanks Dave. I am currently building my own LoRaWAN gateway so these videos are a great help.

Any plans on doing a video showing the software setup?

Just a question, I have ordered much the same setup, but I noticed the anteni shows a gain of 10db, and I do believe the max we can use is 2.5dbi
Have a got this right, if so I’ll have to get a different one

David I don't know if you will get this, but you have just saved my Bacon, I was wondering how all these connections came together in the Gateway, Now if I knew how to find the two white waterproof plugs that you are using for the cables at bottom of box , My whole world would come together.
I'm making my Antenna out of a 36" Tig welding Copper plated rod, I hope it works.

Very good and well define Instructions on Build.
Does anyone know where I can purchase the Daughter Board that goes in between the Pi and RAK831, I already have a RAK831, and I don't want to have to purchase a whole Kit.
I have searched the whole Internet and None to be found. RAKwireless can't help me, they want to sell a new Kit

Interesting build Dave. Pretty much identical spec to my gateway (TTN @ Kilpedder, Wicklow) with similar hardware. I have the antenna mounted on a pole with the hardware at the bottom of the 5m pole. This end works well and I have had packets from about 20km. Plenty of testing at the node end to see what works or not and what is best for node placement and antennas. Give me a shout via TTN if you want to chat/share info?

Hi Dave, looks like an interesting project. Could you place a list of all the components you used in the description? Cheers!

Michael, I've added a list of the components to the description, plus a link to a lot of the stuff on Aliexpress.

Brilliant. Am thinking this setup may help increase communication range with a drone.

Hi Dave, very interesting video. Just curious as to what range/distance you were able to achieve. Thanks, Rob.

About 10 miles with a small handheld transmitter. If I had good line of sight, I'd probably get much further. I must get out to do some more testing soon!

Hi, I would like to know if this module works out in +40 c? Have you performed any thermal tests?

Hi. Did you use this gateway? What range(in km) it's have?
    Where you placed your gateway?

    Amazing job!
How many devices can I connect to this gateway?

    • @hoggif
      @hoggif 5 лет назад

8 channel with max 1% duty cycle would result in 800 time slots ie. 400 devices when the gw acks packets. If the devices send less than constantly (say a message every hour), it takes quite a few devices.

Dave, out of interest...why did you choose the RAK gateway and not the ic880a? Also why 10dbi antenna? I am just about to order a 5dbi antenna so I will wait!

It was the cheapest option available that I could find for a full 8-channel gateway. And it had an adapter for the Pi (even though the first adapter they sent me had a design flaw, but they quickly sent me out a replacement).

Oh, and on the antenna, The 10dBi antenna selection was kind of arbitrary. Although I did want to get decent range out of it, hence my leaning towards double digit gain. I didn't want to have to replace it in the future, as it's difficult to re-do the waterproofing.
