Il Levriero Irlandese è una razza di cani giganti che nell'antichità veniva utilizzata per la guardia e per contrastare gli attacchi dei lupi, da qui il nome Wolfhound. Tutt'ora invece, il Levriero Irlandese è sempre più apprezzato come cane da compagnia, ha un carattere docile ed affettuoso, soprattutto con i bambini. La sua importante presenza fisica non lo rende maldestro, anzi, essendo snello e muscolo mantiene un aspetto molto elegante.
