I trained at Swift, at the academy, i think the training was good enough. My 'mentors,' on the other hand, mainly trained me on how to fail an inspection--i realize now, so i used to asked myself all the question that i would find myself asking the DOT officer if i was to get pulled in. And that's how i trained myself--i would take my log book, and i would ask other drivers what to do. Most didn't know, but i found the answers and the help i needed, i really learned from old school truck driver. In short, the questions should be answered before the inspection. I've never had an inspection where i had to explain anything.

JBG-I'm not a smiley, chatty person in general when I come in contact with people I don't know. When I get called into the D.O.T. office I walk in there straight faced and ready for business. I don't say jack to them unless I'm asked a question. I hand them my paper work and ONLY what they ask for. I don't ask about the Jets, The Steelers, the Cowboys, the Yankees or any other stuff like how they're doing because I don't give a rats ass. I don't make any small talk with them-never did. They're there doing a job, which is to make sure I follow the rules. Once I get passed to go ahead, I say thank you and good bye - period! They don't give a rat's ass about my day or my explanations. All they care about is if there is a violation then its a violation-regardless if it is on purpose or not. My issues aren't their problem and I don't care about theirs either. Once I get an OK and all is good, I move on doing my job because I have better things to do than wait around in a D.O.T. office. You need to learn when people are ANNOYED with you. IF you haven't learned by now you never will. This maybe hard for you to take but its the truth. You brought this particular problem on yourself. You ANNOYED those guys and you were oblivious to their dis-satisfaction. You're running your mouth about a bunch of non-sense like toilet bowls and other disgusting stuff and they're trying to work and take care of other drivers. What the hell is the matter with you???? Number 1, its distracting. Number 2, that's how clerical mistakes are made and it could cost another driver serious issues if one is made on another driver's paper work because they're answering or listening to you babble on about nothing. They aren't there to give you a crash course in D.O.T rules. You're supposed to already know that stuff. That's why you're a driver. The same things you want to know could be answered by officers in your own state or your company. You're always trying to start up conversations with these guys in your vides when you should just move on and get to where your going. I mean really, you need to stop annoying people in situations like that. In some states like mine, you can't even walk in with your cell phone visible or any kind of camera. I mean really? You don't know those guys think you maybe trying to put something negative about them on line that could cost them their jobs? I mean, DUHHH! Use common sense dude. There's a time to film and a time to just shut up and get through it and be on your way. You're never going to win a debate with them and if you try, you'll piss them off and then get hit with a fine, which they could have done. You're not a kid. You should know by now when to shut up and stop making things worse. Right or wrong, like them or hate them, those cops could have hit you with a maximum fine and even worse so stop trying to debate them and leave your camera in the truck where it belongs next time. That's just me.

Why doesn't a professional driver understand the simple rules of in service and out of service time? I'm also boggled that the driver doesn't have recollection of where he drops and picks up his loads for the previous week. If you don't have a good memory then maybe a hand written log might help explaining the eLog errors. a simple hand-jammed notebook log. My 2 cents.

You seem too comfortable entering and exiting the cab. I had that fault. Missed bottom step, fell busted my skull. Result...Coded three or four times, no memory for the next three months, woke up in rehab being taught how to walk again, truck driving career ended because of seizures resulting from accident. Only job I ever had I truly miss, as driving was my passion. Still can drive personal vehicle but no class A or Class B, nor can I operate any machinery. Rough way to go out. Lesson learned..never take anything for granted, even something as simple as getting in and out of cab. By the way it was a conventional cab.

Personal Conveyance should only be used during breaks or looking for a rest stop at maximum 20 to 30 minute off-duty drive, if its an hour or more they get suspicious. Remember the FMCSA states the personal conveyance is under the inspector or officer discretion, meaning they decide if they approve it or not.

That one guy to his left.
It says here you went from Texas to Illinois in 10.5 hrs. But I see whete Google maps shows that as a 12 hr trip😆
I think I did that route years ago and looked at the routing on my laptop. I was like no way.
I think it took right around 10.5 hrs though because I always had my router set at 50 mph and Texas Oklahoma and Missouri are 75 and 70 so it's doable.
And computers show center of city to center of city which adds time as well.
The officer asked for him not to go the speed limit basically.
    Next time you know....?
If it's doable it's friggin doable. Ain't no don't do that again stuff.
I mean they'd shoot someone in self defense in a really close call situation and would be told not to do it again. Ain't quote the same thing as being close on a load.
There are Ltl trucks that are ran on closely logged trips. But they've done it so much that they know exactly rain or snow how to go.
That is exactly the difference between doing and looking online and saying it's impossible.
Until you do it you don't believe it.

I hate HOS regs and e logs. Reason #750 why I quit trucking. I remember being required to take a 10 hr break while I was wide awake....once my break was up I had only been able to get a few hours sleep. Then I was legally able to drive but tired. No flexibility for reality. Drivers are expected to be robots while living in a closet on wheels for weeks at a time.

    • @kyleparker733
      @kyleparker733 2 года назад

Elogs is why I quit a decade ago. They literally cut my check in half. It was a new concept, back then, and dispatchers/planners weren't ready for them. Run legal/run broke. Shippers/receivers had no mercy for late deliveries and pick ups. U went to the bottom of the list. They had to 'work u in'. What would normally be a 2 hour deal to get live unloaded/loaded turned into 7. Fuk the DOT and their stupid, unflexible regs. Come work our job, boys. Let's see how ur silly regs work for u when ur trying to put food on the table and pay bills!
