Fomo did you upgrade your video and audio setup?!!
Do u think Samsung will ever come around and use Dolby Vision? After watching your latest PS5 video I feel more confused on what TV model to lean towards now for my Xbox Series X and my sports. I’m on disability so I spend a lot of time playing Destiny and Sport games. I can’t afford to get an OLED and get screen burn in.
No one has it. It's in a few cities with a couple channels. I was kind of upset..I'd like it if the CX had it but only the GX and up does. And the x900h. Oh well. I'll get it on my next tv when I get burn in in 3-4 years
Stop the FOMO ATSC 3s capabilities for interactivity is one of very big opportunities for creating new content that can be engaging in both gaming and narrative formats. Image a DIY program with no-directional opportunities.
Can care less
Now you can watch 4k HDR 120 Hz personalized ads and 720p content while paying the cable company for 8k
FrnchFriez 😂😂😂😂😂 right
Which cable company provides 8K content?
It was a joke (definitely no 8K content, let alone 4K - heck, even 1080p is rare from cable - most stuff on cable and everything over-air on ATSC 1.0 is 480i/480p/720p/1080i still just like it was in the late 90s and start of the 00s when digital broadcasts began).. Basically they were saying that you'll still get the same crap content like you do now with a lot of fluff/junk added in. Just because the capabilities are there with ATSC 3.0, doesn't mean the content providers will make an investment on anything.
Frankly, a lot of the commercials I see out there now look like they were made in the 80s and 90s and are still in 480i or 480p. The USA is laughably behind the times when it comes to over-air broadcast. Most people just stream everything now anyway, but even then, you usually still get the same feed, so it's still junk. Adoption rate of ATSC 3.0 will be pretty slow too (no mandate to switch from ATSC 1.0 like there was from analog NTSC).
@@danbashur this move is just too late ; they should beat streaming quality and present better offers before the web steal the show .
@@fullhd5277 might be good for all advertisers to switch and get their full ad shown instead of a skip button online.
Excellent, Clear, Concise!
Was planning to wait out for 2021 for the living room TV. This news makes a good case to wait out. This will mean better broadcasting for basic channels on Dish and Directv too.
Real talk! Love it. You saved me lots of money because I thought I needed HDMI 2.1 as much as ATSC 3.0.
Love your relax setting dispensing important information
Got my new HD HomeRun this week with ATSC 3.0. Football looked awesome, lifelike. Only a few channels right now. Waiting to record some 4K shows.
I live about 40 miles from Nashville, Tennessee. But the area I live in has so many wooded hills and valleys so over the air signals suck. I remember climbing out on the roof, at my grandparents house, to turn the antenna for a better signal.
I watch over the air as well as RUclips, Netflix and Disney Plus. This is exciting stuff!
Hello. Thanks for the video. With Samsung getting into mini LED next year in their flagship tvs, how do you think they'll compare with their current line of 4k tvs like the 90t? Worth waiting for? How big an improvement do you see in terms of black levels and blooming?
I’ve been working on the components for ATSC 3.0 since 2000. As CTO of a Communications manufacturer we developed an entire converged communication architecture that combined resources of ATSC 3, Cellular and NexGen Fiber Optic Internet. But wait there’s more....
DANG, good job because the specs are definitely impressive - do you expect massive number of TV makers launching ATSC 3.0 capable TVs in 2021?
What frequency changes are there compared to previous ATSC standard?
This is going to be awesome!
Stop the FOMO: "Over the air."
Oh.
Well, at least the TVs at Applebee's will look really good now.
lol
Pretty sure they use DirecTV
@@kizersosay28 Whoaa. That gave me early 2000's flashbacks. I haven't heard that name in forever.
I joined the Go Fund Me for Silicon Dust for their new 3.0 tuner and they got completely funded and added some bonus features. It finally started shipping a few days ago and I'll be getting one soon with the developer firmware.
I'm in Portland Oregon so this is going to be a interesting ride.
My 65 825 doesn't support it so figured it'd be fun to play with and integrate into my HD HomeRun Prime on the network so I can play with cable and OTA together.
I haven't upgraded to a 4k box for Comcast yet and they don't have much 4k yet anyway.
Very informative. Is there any chance that the 2020 TCL Series 8 lineup will include ATSC 3.0?
Awesome, one more confirmation my Sony X900H was a great bang for the buck! And no, it’s never too late for me to go back to something that i used to get for free.
How do u like your x900h?
@@seanc6754 I got two 55 and 75, I had the OLED A8H that I returned because was not happy for the price I paid and got another 900h so happy, OLED have the best blacks can't compare but this has real good blacks on both sets.
Hey man, nice video. Can you please focus sound support on next gen consoles in combination with lg cx. I heard there are problems with dts in combination with gaming. But i would like to hear more in depth information about sound on the lg cx in generell in combination with external soundbars.
Sounds good but this will take some time. Getting broadcasters on board with delivering more will be key.
Sports continue to draw the biggest audience, but there are motion artifacts to solve as you go up in resolution and framerate.
Informative as always but I have one question. Wassup with the gloves bruh?
I'm waiting for ATSC 3.0! I have a q90r and I want to have broadcasts in 4K! I plan on buying a premium antenna soon to get all my local stations as well!
Watch antennaman on RUclips he does antenna reviews
Great informative video!! Are existing atsc 1.0 antenna and coax cables capable of atsc 3.0 signals?
Yes, the atsc 3.0 tuner is the only change that needs to be made
Yes, I will be watching OTA. I put a new Channel Master cm-5020 (big) antenna on my roof this year. Even ATSC 1.0 looks better than cable did. I am drooling waiting for the Philadelphia area to get ATSC 3.0.
There will be “paid” OTA services available to after the initial launch as well as the free and the rule making is now underway. Cable is in s real threat here and they need to upgrade their throughput reduce latency and improve programming quality.
In Europe we have the Sony xh90. It should be the same as the x900h, right? So it should have it?
Just bought a 85 incher and didnt even knew it may Support ATSC 3.0
Good luck!!!
I believe my country will reach that broadcast standard in ... 2078.
Indeed & agreed, since 2077 is probably when the Arasaka Corp monopoly getting toppled.
It would be great to get a updated list later this year, (2021) of compatible ATSC 3.0 TVs & Tuners you recommend.
*compatible
I have an external ATSC 3.0 tuner. I am just waiting for the Los Angeles area stations to go live.
Can you speak to some of the equipment and comparability? All broadcasters in my area are already 3.0. I purchased the new Silicondust ATSC3.0 networked tuner. Running a PLEX server for DVR but PLEX does not yet support ac-4 audio. FFMPEG seems to be hold up? Can you speak to when AC-4 decoding will be widely available. When tuner is used with compatible equipment, the performance is amazing.
ATSC 3.0 has been in the latest Tivo Edge OTA DVR for over a year. You could just use it as your primary TV tuner since you're going to record on it anyway.
Still waiting on the Sony firmware update to enable ATSC 3.0 on the x900h. There are multiple stations switched over to it in my area, but I can't see them :(
When is it that we usually hear from companies about their next TV model specs which would be coming out? Holidays? January? Spring?
It seems like every other day I find another reason why my Sony XH90 was one of my best tech purchases in the last few years! Truly the best bang for buck TV of 2020
Same! This tv will last at least 7-10years. It has everything you could need for the best price possible.
@@EnlightenedGaming its the best looking display I've ever used, I'm currently using it as a PC monitor, waiting to get a hold of one of the new HDMI 2.1 GPU's and the firmware upgrade along with the PS5 will make this thing a gaming beast.
My 2018 LG C8 OLED looks way better than the Sony X900H (picture quality wise), but the Xbox Series X and PS5 will most likely look better on the X900H since it will support HDMI 2.1 and my LG can not.
@@BrianHaskell78 I was very close to getting an OLED but, because I'm using it as a monitor, I'm going to have ALOT of static images on display basically the whole time I'm gonna use it so burn it would definitely occur in my case.
To be honest, a vast majority of games wont run at 120hz on the PS5/Xbox and the ones that do will be so scaled graphically back it wont be worth it over 60hz, Your OLED will do a great job for a long time to come on the new consoles :)
@@coffmad you definitely made the right call! I am very cautious about burn in.
I just got and LG CX, should I get rid of this one and get an GX? For example. Got it for rtx 3080 and ps5
I appreciate free TV, but man those ads are frustrating. 30 minutes of TV with 10 minutes of ads.
True.
The sad part is, people who pay hundreds of dollars per month for cable get the same ads. The cable business model makes no sense.
@@MrTickleBean I remember the ads being much shorter and entertaining in the 70's and 80's. They really worked to retain their audience.
@@MrTickleBean Yes. Cable should have been free. To pay for watching ads...That's crazy. As for me, I don't pay, and I don't watch ads. The best of both worlds. I just watch RUclips with Adblock / Adblock Plus. I don't care for superheroes, sports, and reality shows, so I'm good. I'm gonna get a TV soon, but if it's too annoying with RUclips ads and I can't install something on Android TV to stop them, I'll just hook up my computer via an HDMI cable to use its Adblock. PS: Giving "Stop The FOMO" a complimentary Incognito Mode ad view. :)
Even cable TV is that way. Cut the cord and save your sanity if you haven't already. Stop paying to watch ads.
i use hdhr & plex to record my ota stuff, it removes commercials
Hey FOMO. Would I still get VRR and ALLM on a 2.0 18mpbs cable then. My run is about 5m and I really don’t want to spend a fortune on fibre optic hdmi 2.1 m?
Does any Digital antenna work with a build in 3.0 tuner in the t.v ? Like any. ?
Just a quick question. Has the TCL had an update to reduce blooming?
I have a Sony X90J TV . How can I confirm if my Antenna is picking up ATSC 3.0 Channels? Thanks for the help in advance !
Just bought an X900H for the upcoming PS5. Getting more and more excited I got this TV. What antenna would you recommend? Luckily I live in Salt Lake City, so I already have access to 3.0. Also, I messaged Sony chat about the HDMI 2.1 firmware update. They told me it was coming before the PS5 drops. I know that their ad said "Winter 2020" but I hope that tech is right and it comes out before 11/12.
Any antenna should work (there is no difference for HD or 4K). The further away the broadcast tower is, the bigger the antenna you will need. Heck, I've picked up most of my local ATSC 1.0 stations with a 1 foot coax cable that I stripped all the insulation off of (leaving the center wire exposed). Try any antenna you have and let us know what ATSC 3.0 stations you pick up (please!).
My brother recently bought a vizio tv for 500 and it has some sort of free tv section. What is the difference between arcs 3.0 and what vizio is providing?
I totally forgot about the Olympic man I'm making the right choice to wait until April though May to buy a TV at least I have cable so no problem for me but it's a definite big upgrade for the people that use antenna.
I excited to have ATSC 3.0. I have been putting off buying a tv waiting for the ATSC 3.0 tuners in the tv. I do not pay for extra streaming services and staying with OTA. I am concerned if the ATSC 3.0 tuners now will still work in the future, hopefully they do not need to change the standard making the current ATSC 3.0 tuners obsolete.
HdHomeRun 4K Quatro in STL. 75 ota channels for now. Patiently waiting for ATSC 3.0.
Need a standalone ATSC 3.0 DVR and since ATSC 3.0 DRM has not been talked about much. How will that work?
Good news is this going to be available in some highend tv I got a 2019 master series Sony or only for newer model thanks and more power😎
I live in the Los Angeles area so they should be starting ATSC 3.0 broadcasting fairly soon. I suspect that competition among the various TV stations will accelerate ATSC 3.0 to be available sooner rather than later. Time will tell. If an external tuner that works well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg is available soon, that will help a lot as well. There's a lot of 4K TV's out there already.
Do you have Instagram account?
Also TCL 6 series 2020 VS TCL 8 series 2019?
What would be a better buy? If you make this a video it would be great. If you already have the video can you direct me to it as I couldn’t find it?
Keep up the great work as always!
lol none of that is going to happen for a very long time. broadcasts have been behind since the very begining.
OTA maybe, if I also had a decent DVR with it, so I could avoid the commercial breaks.
Thinking the way to go is to get an upgraded amazon box that records over the air in this format (or whatever company) and just use that. I use OTA for when the power goes out and the amazon DVR box does a decent job. But yeah doubt I will want to go back to just the content on OTA. Thats the thing. Picture quality if a thing but content care about is way more important. Not sure this is a must have for me. But good to know.
How would you record ATSC 3.0 content? Back in the day, it would be with a VCR but that won't cut it today? Could I plug it into my Directv DVR to record shows?
ATSC 3.0 box with USB.
Great video!!!!
So the tvs will be more ready when 2023 comes around?
What about RUclips TV, will it stream these same broadcast channels in 120fps?
8k is part of Atsc 3.0....this year the kickstarted external box should be out. Hopefully through a series x, we can get 8k support over their app
When Australia going to upgrade to allow this, 10 years. I would have a new tv by then.
Just for info, being in the UK I looked into this and discovered that for us in the UK (and Europe): home digital TV standards, known as DVB-T2, already contain the scope for all the picture and sound quality boosts that ATSC 3.0 brings. These include HDR, Dolby Atmos, 4K UHD and HFR too.
Yes, because Europe got HDTV about ten years after we did, just like color television. We're the testing ground and Europe learns from us.
@@scottlarson1548 And we are humbly and eternally grateful for the magnificent wonders and miracles of modern science you bestow upon us. TV, oh yeah, some guy from Scotland invented that, and HDTV was first realised in Japan in the 1970's before the US and EU began to explore and ultimately develop their own versions.
@@HasanDervish Thanks! I wasn't aware that Baird's mechanical television was in common use in Europe. The US invented digital television which made HDTV practical but it used MPEG-2 which was a European standard.
@@scottlarson1548 The Japanese HDTV was digital. US digital was years later
@@HasanDervish NHK's Hi-Vision HDTV system was most certainly *not* digital. The original system required 20 MHz for each channel, but their MUSE system did some analog subsampling to get it to 8 MHz. When the CATV tested the NHK MUSE system against the digital systems, it was an absolute failure and NHK finally decided to work on a digital system for Japan. Please read the excellent book "Defining Vision" by Joel Brinkley to learn the long tortured history of HDTV.
I was upset that my 48" cx did didn't come with atsc 3.0.. so would I have to by an antenna that supports it? And then will it work with the cx model?
Yup. Sounds like external antennas with atsc 3.0 should be available next year and I imagine it should be plug and play. May also require a firmware update from LG though. Just bought a 55CX and hadn't even heard about this feature despite looking extensively at the GX models as well. That being said it's also a feature I don't care about at all
Are our existing antennas going to be compatible with this new standard? I put I really nice antenna in my attic 3 years ago for OTA TV and I hope I dont have to replace it already!
Yes your antennas is fine. Just need to upgrade to a 3.0 tuner
@@deaneisenmann7670 Great, thank you for confirming.

Me 30 seconds in - "It's new so I need it. " FOMO is my middle name
Most younger generation will not care about this feature, as we stream our movies from VOD. And as for Olympics, I am sure that will be accesable via YT or what not.
To make sure that your tv/monitor is future proof, it is important that your tv/monitor has HDMI 2.1 and is capable of making full use of its features.
You get it. I'm 34 an TV is dead and I don't know many who do still care about this. Those who do are mostly in their 70s and are using some cheap LCD and don't care about image quality at all an are mostly still consuming SD or 720p TV content.
Is it true that broadcasters will share their antenna towers with competing broadcasters in their area ?
I love you bro but this video is definitely adding to the FOMO
I was so close to pulling the trigger on an LG cx cuz there is a 500$ sale and it's oled future proof but it's missing the atsc 3. And we don't know how much that box to add on will cost. One reddit post I saw showed one from south Korea and it was 895$!! So... Maybe that's why it's not readily available yet in most tvs. The LG gx, and wx their most expensive tvs have it.
What I would like to be able to is connect a wireless subwoofer to my tv. The speakers in my LG TV have decent speakers but a sub is needed.
Ok I got a question I bought the samsung un65mu8000 back in 2017. Is there any update for hdmi 2.1. Or something like that
No, HDMI 2.1 and ATSC 3.0 both require specific hardware, so your TV will not be able to support it (no update can add the hardware). A few TVs launched with the hardware needed for HDMI 2.1 this year but the software was not ready. Since there was nothing that could output an HDMI 2.1 signal, they knew they could keep working on the software and send out an update later. That is the only reason some TVs get 2.1 support with a firmware update.
nice update :)
Finally someone is talking about atsc 3.0 I have a professionally installed 4k antenna and my area is about to go live. What sucks it nextgen is only available in the high end tvs (except x900h)
You know there is no such thing has a 4k antenna. Its the tuner that does all the processing to 4k. Any tv antenna would have worked some have more range is the only difference
Great for watching TV on moving vehicle
Can you do best routers for next generation consoles?
The bandwidth needed to go 4k OTA just isn't there yet. Not until manufacturers work out some compression issues. Even at 4k that will more than likely be a single channel per transmitter. More than likely 4k content will be available to unlock for channels and passed through the internet providers. Unfortunately, I don't think ATSC 3.0 will be able to live up to the hype for another 5 years or so...if it isn't killed off before then.
I recently cut the cord and went back to OTA and won’t go back. While streaming services dominate my viewing, having access to local news and quite a bit of niche programming is a nice perk and I’m not paying for any of this content. It doesn’t take up internet bandwidth and is not affected by WiFi outages. Since I never took down the old rooftop antenna that came with the house, it didn’t cost me anything to switch over form satellite. All I did was rerouted the cable from the satellite dish to the ota antenna.
If you do want to go OTA I highly recommend a good old school uhf rooftop antenna. Much better results than with any indoor antenna.
ATSC 3.0 all the way!! It would be great if they were actually broadcasting in 4K now but realistically it is probably about five years away from it being very common. The changeovers I have seen so far are an upgrade to 1080P instead of 720P or 1080i and many cases the only change is it is using ATSC 3.0. It would be great if ATSC 3.0 could offer more all sports or all movie channels to make cord cutting less painful. The way I see it now is that when you make a decision to cut the cord you are in effect saying I will be watching less TV since there are far less entertainment options available on over the air free TV.
Unfortunately the FCC made 3.0 optional vs 1.0 and the local TV channels have to install the equipment too, while probably most people are using cable type of service.
Nobody wants to go through a transition again... not to mention plenty of SDTVs survived by having an add on, the last thing we need is them showing up at land fills, accompanied by flat panels that will be deemed obsolete by the public.
@@xx-mreba-xx4051 Not sure you understood what I wrote, the problem is that 3.0 isn’t backwards compatible with ATSC 1.0, thus TV providers have to have both 3.0 and 1.0 equipment so adoption is going to take a long time.
@@Nettechnologist yes I understood and have been following 3.0 for years... mainly because it works for portable TVs unlike what we have now. My point is there is zero will for anyone to follow up on 3.0

when are you going to review the lg cx?
You still missing the mandatory vrr requirement in hdmi 2.1. its as important as USBC being the full interface not a gutted version like micro where otg was optional. We already have TVs failing the bandwith spec while other features work. It will replace older hdmi2.0 like usb 2 replaced 1.

Very interesting 👌
Anu one can say weather the sony x900h have only ARC or Earc. Official website shows only ARC Available.
Broadcasters will not invest in the infrastructure to do this. They haven't seen the ROI they expected from the switch to HD. We currently have 1080 TV and broadcasters are still putting out 720. Pipe dream. Hype dream.
While it is coming, it isn't a mandate. Broadcasters will do what the can financially justify. What you actually get will be less than the spec.
and there are no major gov't subsidies for 3.0. it's clear why atsc 3.0 is voluntary. broadcasters are likely looking for advertising revenue numbers.
but this is misleading: "less than the spec". my dude, netflix is streaming 1080p at 4mbps: it's also "less than the spec". nobody on God's green earth is going to deliver on-demand "1080p or better" on any internet speed in any country. It's because no CDN / video provider can sustain the bandwidth costs of every internet hooligan opening up 3x 50 Mbps constant streams of 4K blu-ray-like quality for eight hours a day. would bankrupt Google / Netflix / Amazon bandwidth budgets in a month = completely unprofitable and unsustainable.
only physical media can deliver the spec, full stop, because of the IP backbone (nothing to do with WiFi, 5G, ISPs, gigabit, etc.)
There's clear advantages.
Market target advertising is a huge one. It's possible to run different ads in different suburbs and the like. This allows them to charge higher prices for specific sub markets.
Paid subscription channels are also possible.
@@shabmaster7128 Only if these things are *very very* easy to implement. Our WB (now CW) station put off going HD for years because the chief engineer said implementing the new closed captioning system was too complicated.

Hdmi is not only good for 120fps but vrr from 48hz to 120hz. So you could get 80-100 fps vrr with hdmi 2.1 but not with 2.0
Nice news to have ; and the answer on your question is :
( Not totally) , I can go back to air broadcast if they give me enough quality,, but of course can't quit RUclips ,, I can only watch you on RUclips ,,, it would be like I'll watch 4k movies on it because my internet is not good or have enough capacity for it .
For some reason you left out Philadelphia - no big deal but it is a large market. I hope they have to put a little power boost into their transmitters - even hd tv if you're 35 miles or more from the transmitter you are not necessarily getting a signal all the time - and I use a fringe antenna with amplifier. They have a ways to go to get the coverage of old style analog tv for over the air transmission, and I wonder if it ever will be as good for coverage.
This is the ONLY reason I'm waiting to upgrade a 2017 50" UN7100 Sammy 4K which doesn't quite fit on a TV stand left over from a CRT display. Having a new entertainment center built by an in-law which should support at least a 65" set w/micro LED or OLED or QLED. We live only 2 miles from the antenna farm and watch 90% OTA content.
What frequency changes are there compared to previous ATSC standard?
UHF channel 21: uses 512.31 MHz for ATSC 1.0 and 2.0, 515 MHz for ATSC 3.0 (same frequency used for DVB-T in Taiwan, and Bermuda, DVB-T2 in Colombia and Myanmar and DTMB in Cuba). On ISDB-T, they add .142857 MHz : 515.142857 MHz for ISDB-T frequency in Channel 21 (Channel 20 in Japan).
ATSC 3.0, DVB-T/T2 and DTMB are not compatible. DVB-T receivers can’t receive DVB-T2 broadcasts. SET TOP BOX with HDMI are required to use.
I heard that the current ATSC 3.0 broadcasts are just the HD content they are broadcasting on ATSC 1.0. Can anyone confirm if they are getting any actual 4K broadcasts on ATSC 3.0?
when it will be available in Europe?
What about the Uk market please ?
What antenna would you need to get ATSC 3.0?
Any tv antenna will work, its having a tuner with the ATSC 3.0 chip is the main thing. Buy an antenna that meet the range you need don't fall for the 4k antenna false advertising mark-up
NexGen tv ATSC 3.0 has lots benefits for broadcasting, and its not only about free content with ad. You will one day enjoy the ATSC in your rental RV in the middle of nowhere, as a example. Internet is a powerful communication tool, but its not accessible everywhere yet! I will upgrade for sure!
That’s probably the best selling point... a resurgence in portables... if anything focusing on portables might make the public accept it as a new standard.
Silicon dust HD Home run tuners are 3.0 capable.
