'You let me in' is so, SO good! I read it on kindle and it felt quite long, shocked at how short it is in physical form 😯 My all time favourite horror is 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde', it reminds me of Frankenstein and 'Interview with a Vampire' with its discussions on morality and religion.
Not sure if you have read it, but you might enjoy 'I feed her to the beast..' by Jamison Shea, I'd recommend the audiobook and not skipping the prologue from the author!
Wow that was a novel of a comment in itself 😅
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is brilliant!
Thank you for that recommendation!!!
Loved Mexican Gothic, Nettle and Bone and Interview with the Vampire... I liked how you pointed out T Kingfisher's focus on older characters... I never thought about that but its totally true! 🤗
It's really nice to have some older MCs
You Let Me In is one of my favorite books. I'm so glad you mentioned it in your video so that more people will read it. It's a great story and so beautifully written. I annotated every single page. 🔔
It is brilliant
oceanic/mermaid horror books are just so good! can't get enough haha! i blame you for a huge love for horror books haha
Hahaha I will happily take that blame
My favourite horror book has to be Frankenstein. I am so looking forward to reading Chlorine! 🦇
I do love a good gothic classic!
I have yet to find a book that moves me like Frankenstein. It ticks all the boxes for me. It's my favorite of all time.
@@leafsonata I've only read Frankenstein twice but I suspect that the more I reread it it will climb up my favourites list.
@@jenniferlovesbooks I don't doubt it!
I just started reading You Let Me In on audiobook and I'm LOVING it! Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm so pleased you are liking it! It's a great book
I am so glad I found your channel I have added so many books to my list to read that you reccomended!!!❤
I'm so pleased you like my channel! I hope you enjoy the books 😊
I loved Chlorine.... totally agree about the gruesomeness but how it stays with you! Mermaid folklore would have been nice to have more of for sure!
Yeah, it would have added so much to it if we had more folklore. At the same time it was still great
😶🌫️👹😰😵. Great video, thank you! Gothic books are my favourite, they never fail to be deliciously atmospheric. Interview with the vampire also stole my heart. I'm so curious about Juniper and thorn, I'd never heard of the Juniper tree story before this. I'll have to get my hands on The Brothers Grimm fairy tales too.
They really are the perfect amount of atmospheric for this time of year 💕
What a great video! Just when I thought that I had heard about all the horror books out there at least once (and added them to my ever growing list of books I intend to read), there you are with several new recommendations. Five 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇 for that one!
I'm so glad I could give you some new recommendations! 🥰
T Kingfisher's What Moves the Dead was Soooo GOOD! I would love to read more work like it. Yes, more Gothic classics, please.
It was an immaculate haunted house story!
🧜♂️ Oceanic ones sound intriguingly weird! I haven’t read any of those, though I have read the original Dr Moreau (that stayed with me for a while!)
Dr Moreau is a fantastic, albeit disturbing book
Have you ever read "The Moth Diaries" by Rachel Klein? Or watch the 2011 film ?
It's a great read.
I love your channel. Keep up the great work. ⭐⭐⭐
I haven't, I will look into it
I think I'll check out some of these recommendations. Interview with the vampire was huge in the 90s and being a teen then was honestly really special...lol. I remember being blown away by the novel...
I think I would recommend Dark Matter by Michelle Paver - one of the recent books that stuck with me. And the Moth Diaries is hugely underrated. So claustrophobic and intense...
Personally I go for classics of the ghost story genre - M.R. James is the undisputed master of the English ghost story genre and I wish he was more appreciated. Frankly, the Wordsworth editions of the Tales of Mystery and the Supernatural are GOLD. You could go as topical as you want or as varied. Highly recommend the entire collection.
I have a short story by M.R James in a classic ghost stories collection. I need to read it.
Thank you for the recommendations!
A book that literally scared me was when darkness loves us. The new print of it has that story plus another story in one. But the story that also is the same name of the book freaked me out so bad that I couldn’t even read the second story..but in a really good way. It was so well written. HIGHLY recommend
Ooh I've never heard of that one, thank you for the recommendation 😊
Ooo - The Salt Grows Heavy sounds fab. I also really enjoyed Drowning Deep so it could well be one for me!
I don’t read a lot of horror, but Tender is the Flesh would fit the bill and I really loved that book.
I have heard alot about Tender is the Flesh!
I'm so glad you mentioned the Megan Shepherd book. I have several of her books on my shelves, picked up thrifting, but didn't make the connection between them and another book of hers (The Grim Lovelies) that I really liked. Now I'm more interested in moving them up in my TBR. I don't know if I have a favorite horror book as there are so many different KINDS of horror. I did adore Nettle & Bone (and anything by T. Kingfisher). Bunny by Mona Awad was a bizarre and memorable read. The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell was very creepy!
I was tempted to put Bunny in this list but as you say, there are so many types of horror it's hard to cover it all in one video 😅
I’ve heard such interesting things about Juniper & Thorn. Hopefully I can squeeze it in before spooky season ends
It's a good one, dark but well done
I highly recommend it, one of my favs!!
Hello! Few days ago, I told you about T. Kingfisher's books . I wanted them to be translated in france and yesterday I heard that Nettle & Bones will be. Thank you for this recommendations video!!
That's amazing!
So many to now add to my TBR!
I hope you like them!!
If you like Gothic retellings you should try out the Athena club trilogy by Theodora Goss starting with the strange Case of The alchemist daughter there are some characters from those old stories and also an appearance by Holmes and Watson
Yes, that book is amazing! I want to do a reread of the series
❤📚📚❤️
I'm not hugely into horror, but I have read Nettle and Bone, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride, The Vampire Lestat, and Small Favors. I thoroughly enjoyed these. I'm sure I've read more horror, but I just have to be in a very particular mood for it, lol.
@@starlasell5698 I can agree with needing to be in the right mood for horror
I have read what moves the dead by t kingfisher and really enjoyed it! And I need to read a house of good bones, as it is waiting for me on my shelf now. I have been wary since hearing such bad things about nothing but blackened teeth, but it sounds like maybe the salt grows heavy could be one to start with instead... I loved mexican gothic so much! Absolutely adored it. Ooh and I want to try chlorine! The Last Tale of the flower bride is also one I have in a stunning edition and I need to get around to. I love a slow atmospheric read and I love purple prose. As a vampire fan I feel guilty about not having tried a dowry of blood, a house of hunger and interview with a vampire yet but that is going to change!! at some point!!
All three of the Vampire books are great, looking at Vampires in different ways. I love seeing how they are interpreted 👌🏻
We have always lived in the castle by shirley jackson is my absolute favorite ❤
Im glad you like it, its a great gothic classic
A novella I recently loved was When Among Crows by Veronica Roth.
Great!
I read Mexican Gothic and loved it. I annotated the heck out of it. 💀
It was a great creepy story
Added several to my never ending tbr! 👻
Haha always happy to assist!
One of my favorite horror books is called tastes like candy by ivy Tholen
Ooh I haven't heard of that one before
@@ReadingNymph taste like candy is a slasher set in a Texas Halloween themed carnival
Involves a group of incoming high School seniors doing the scavenger hunt at said carnival
I would say there are some elements of Gore and you might want to check the trigger warnings, but it is a good book if you like slashers
Also it recently got a sequel I believe they're both on Kindle unlimited but if they're not I'll just get the Kindle edition it's relatively inexpensive
If anyone does e-books A Study in Drowning for kindle is currently 99 pence.
Love a good kindle deal
I loved house of hollow I found it scary even though it’s classed as young adult
It is definitely so creepy in places
So many books to add to my tbr ☠️💀👻🐈⬛🍁
Always happy to help 😅
⚰️ I got some good recommendations from you, thanks, a lot. X
I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊
What did you think of the ending of mermaid 🧜♀️ the very end
Which one? The Salt Grows Heavy, Chlorine or Into the Drowing Deep? To be fair, I liked the ending of all of them in their own way
@@ReadingNymph chlorine .
@KirstyPritchard-n2l I liked it, I thought it went with the story well, and shows the pressures that young athletes are under and seeing that with a horror twist
@@ReadingNymph I can’t say without spoiling I mean what happened at the very end what you thought 😂
@KirstyPritchard-n2l yeah, as I said I thought it went well with the story. It ended with her being free, from there it's up to you to decide if that meant transforming how she wanted or free in a darker sense. I prefer the transformation theory
I read from below on audio books and it was quite good but I wouldn’t buy it. I have also read Mexican Gothic which I really enjoyed.
I’m not sure if I have a favourite horror book.
☠️💀
That makes sense!
🦇
Thank you for taking the time to watch 💓
I loved far below but every other Darcy Coates book I try is just plain bad Not sure why but the others are just way too tame and dull
Ooh that's interesting to know!
💀🖤
Thank you!
Mexican Gothic was a weird, gross book! I liked it. 😂 🍄🟫🍄
Hahaha it really was
💀💀💀
Thank you! ✨️
