Her irritable demeanor is understandable. She didn't go overboard by cursing OP's wife; she simply expressed that she didn't want her there. She wanted only blood-related family members present.
OP and his wife acted out of love, which we all understand and appreciate. However, it's crucial to consider the mother's perspective. In her vulnerable state, she felt that OP's wife was imposing during a difficult time. While it's painful to hear, the mother's grief-driven reaction deserves some empathy.

I agree. Not saying mom was right but she is greiving and often that process is dark and ugly.
Just because she grieves her way doesn't mean anyone has to put up with it.
There's a difference between saying I don't want you id just like family.

But then the mother went to far by being a bitch about the biological mother not wanting her.
