    Four other people could not remove this patient’s wax, yet you went in and made it look like an almost routine case. This is the primary reason why no one but a professional should be doing ear wax removal. Thank you for helping this patient and many others.

      In 2 years I went to 4 ear dr's due to wax and not being able to hear. I finally gave up. year 5 rolls around and I was in emergency care for some odd thing. Older Dr. asked me if I had any other problems, I said yes but nobody has been able to help me. Magic Man he was. I even hugged him when he was done. first time in 5 yrs. I could finally hear out of my right ear again. 🥰

      And then when he pulled that last big chunk out, I just felt my entire body relax, in relief for this patient!
      It's crazy what these types of videos can actually do to the people who watch them! I truly did not expect my body to have tensed up, and then to feel my entire body relax at the end! It was so literal, that there was no way I could have ignored it! But while watching the procedure, I didn't even realize that I had been holding my breath, either, until it was almost over! Too funny!

    I had a similar ear issue decades ago where I experienced pain in my left ear so I stopped at a med stop and they gave me drops to ease the pain. Problem is, I had a bad infection that was covered with ear wax, so the drops never reached the infection. The pain got so bad, I drove myself to the ER and a doctor looked carefully and told me that the wax was covering the infection and he had to remove it, but he didn’t use a vacuum and carefully remove the wax, he used a saline spray and after a few minutes the wax broke free and the saline jet hit the infection and it felt like someone jabbed a hot poker in my ear. Even though I drove there, I had to beg and plead for a strong pain reliever, that I only lived 5 minutes away, and they finally agreed to give me a shot of Demerol, right before I checked out. That was almost 30 years ago, but it was the worst pain I’ve experienced by far. Thank GOD for that Demerol!

    • @klaus13337
      @klaus13337 10 месяцев назад +6

      While I am happy that he successfully treated your condition, I think it is irresponsible to administer a highly addictive opioid (especially pethidine; I have no data to back it up, but when I look at its pharmacological actions (opioidergic, anticholinergic, and DAT inhibitory effects), it could be more addictive than some other opioids depending on whether you like the stimulatory effects) and just contributes to what is known as the opioid crisis. At the same time, I have to admit that I wasn't in your body and can't assess your situation. However, having saline spray touch your infection or inflamed tissue sounds like it caused strong but temporary pain, so it should have resolved quickly enough and, therefore, doesn't justify the risk of developing an addiction to opioids. When it comes to the pain caused by the infection itself, it can be managed by a spray consisting of an antibiotic and a steroid (Otomize, for example) and, optionally, if your stomach can tolerate it (mine can't anymore), some ibuprofen.
      Now some of you might ask, "Is one shot of Demerol enough to cause an addiction to opioids?" My answer is: Yes, it can. Depending on the individual's situation, demerol can quickly get rid of one's bad mood or depression and give you the best time you've had in weeks, months, or even years. It doesn't take long until your brain realizes Demerol/opioids => Gooood. In reverse, it might take a long time to realize that the fact that it makes you feel so good isn't good, but highly risky. In Germany, docs are usually very reluctant to use opioids.
      TLDR: I don't see any need for a highly addictive opioid.

      @stevekeeling9700 10 месяцев назад

      @@klaus13337thanks for your input, but I can assure you the pain was temporary, it lasted for almost an hour until I received the demerol. Also, I was too exhausted to experience any kind of high, I finally arrived home around 5am and it helped to fall asleep immediately. I do not recall any kind of addiction whatsoever and the same goes for the only other time when I received demerol, when I scratched my cornea. All that it did was numb my pain and make me sleepy

    • @ginger56castro
      @ginger56castro 9 месяцев назад +32

      Demerol is not that addictive, when a person is experiencing excruciating pain ibuprofen is not going to help. I was given demerol for 2 weeks multiple times a day in the hospital for a pancreatitist , no addiction and no withdrawal . Pain medicine is necessary sometimes and people should not be scared to into believing they'll be an addict if they relieve their pain with certain medicines . There are some people that have progressive chronic pain.

    • @klaus13337
      @klaus13337 9 месяцев назад

      @@ginger56castro You may be resistant to the rewarding effects of opioids, but many people are not. Ages ago, it wasn't a problem, but right now, with the advent of the internet and access to all information, you immediately know what the doctor gave you, what the drug does, and how easy it is to get similar drugs. There are cases where opioids are a godsend and cases where the well-intended application of opioids will lead to addiction. The pain that arises from a saline solution hitting inflamed tissue is not a case that has to be treated with an opioid.

    Has a patient admitted for new onset falls. She was in her 60’s, good health, but had just started falling. No BP issues, and I sat down and took a good, detailed history of the last 6 months. No issues, just started falling 4 months prior, and this last time, she’d knocked herself out. She was very clear - she’d feel dizzy, the room would swirl, and down she’d go. So I asked her what happened 4 months ago - nothing. Five months prior - nothing. 6 months prior - she got her first hearing aids. I grabbed a Np that happened to be on the unit, convinced her to look at my patient’s eardrums. Packed solid. NP got an ENT to come in, and they pulled out more wax that I could imagine fit. She lived a good way out of town, and the aids hurt her ears, but she thought that was normal. Once they got her “de waxed” the doc said, “No wonder you were falling.” Pressure on the inner ear, vertigo, and falling. You wanna know the kicker? Because she lived alone and they were worried she’d fall and have a fatal injury unobserved, they were going to put her in a nursing home. I may not have been the world’s best nurse, but that day I made a difference. She went back home to her house, not a nursing home, and a granddaughter who really loved her said she was going to move in, which the patient was thrilled about. She’d wanted someone to offer, but didn’t want to ask.

      I was born in 1965 and when I was born I had outer and middle ear infections in both ears. So I have been seeing an ENT all my life. I have always used Q-tips, but I was taught how to use them properly. I have my ears checked every year and the ENT always says I have the cleanest ears he has ever seen :)
