Thanks be to God for inspiring this Father to give this talk. I so needed to hear this, and this will be a tremendous help concerning my personal struggles with particular issues within the Faith.
I definitely came into orthodoxy with some negative baggage. I was against the "culture" around me and I was against the irreverent church services of the protestant churches i grew up in. Thankfully, I have an amazing priest. I don't think ive ever heard the word "humility" so many times in such a short period of time in my life 😅 Sure, i still have my various political beliefs, but its amazing how much my reliance on politics has decreased in last year. If I'm being honest, it's because my ideology was basically my god. I relied more on my ideology to be my savior than God. I realized that in my 40 years of life, I was never really a Christian. And that's not because i think people outside orthodoxy aren't Christian (im sure that's an entirely different conversation), but just that I, myself, worshipped my own God who conformed to me and not the other way around.
Wow that is a amazing way of thinking. I am always stressing about if i know enough to really feel secure in saying I am doing what is right, i'd have to learn all the history up until this point, or i can know what i know now and learn from the tradition thats been passed down from built up tradition.
Loved this. So many push mean and sad. How I wish I could get to this church. Marvelous marvelous, my heart yearns to please Him and hope someday God will bring me in to Orthodoxy.
I think I get it, he's just a super chill guy, but he follows what you're supposed to do so we just listen to him and ask him questions? This is my first orthodox sermon and it reminds me of the imams in bangladesh or my imams in america, he's just our teacher/guidance who's relatable. If anyone sees this and is orthodox please let me know how it feels to you guys, super interested in this.
Please, let's not. First, let's remember that it's God and God Only Who is Good. We don't make things good. We are made good if we submit to Him, but we are still not the source. It works that way for every virtue, including self sacrifice. But God does not delight in burned offerings. A broken and humbled heart He will not despise. And lastly, a slogan with references to politics will not save, just as there is no salvation in princes. Politics, all politics, is not a solution to anything, but it is a temptation to much. I get riled up by this stuff too, but It's not worth getting incensed over this sort of thing and forcing yourself upon your brother or your sister. And I certainly had no thought of forcing anything. And I have seen Orthodox circles where this would have been taken seriously. I am so weary also of the spirit of politics these days, I suppose that I'm too ready to make assumptions in that direction. I can only say I am relieved and heartened to hear your replies. May God grant us grace to speak in love, pardon our iniquities, and have mercy on our souls. I am the first among sinners.
It’s pretty easy. If they are the Priests and Bishops of the EO church, they are the shepherds. Wolves will be kicked out. But we are not to be the ones to go around trying to identify that. That’s the bishops’ job.
@@Gamzrok wrong, the EP is a wolf and he's still chugging along, and what about when they start allowing female deacons? Will you still say it's up to other bishops who you follow? Canons clearly state that if you follow a heretic, you will be dragged into hell with them.
@@Gamzrok That is NOT true. In world Orthodoxy there are many preists and bishops who for years publically teach heresies and NOTHING is done about it. You may say "oh in theory they will be punished" but they are not.
@@Gamzrok Exactly, that makes sense if we are supposed to follow the tradition of trusting them, they sacrifice their life to know everything so we should genuinely listen to them and try to learn.
So this priest is basically saying that the faithful and the Church shouldn't "rail agianst" anything? If that was true we would not have the councils. If that was true many great confessor saints would be wrong for their defense of the faith. We should always "rail against" sin and heresy. PERIOD.
Building a church on the foundation of defense of the truth and the true faith isn't right? "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds" -2 Corinthians 11:13-15

It's hard to be part of the flock and focus on repentance if we don't even know who the sheperds and wolves are.
