    So experimental, energetic and raw.

Back in the day I always envied UK bands. Europe is such a small place compared to here (the US), but there are so many interesting places to play, each one very different. Different languages, different food, different women. "Oh, we are going on tour to Antwerp, Milan, Brussels, Copenhagen..."

Not many bands have the balls to make it up as they go along live. A basic theme and then Barney jamming to it. Everyone varies it slightly. Something special when a band knows each other well enough to do that live.

Throughout May-June 1981, New Order heavily improvised this song live, working out all the little intricacies while occasionally willfully annoying punters. I believe the longest version was a staggering 18 minutes. They'd go on to work out "Temptation" in the exact same way during September-November 1981.

It's notable that this is the last New Order song Martin Hannett worked on. He apparently walked out in the middle of production after getting in a debate about the mixing.

Yes barney inherited it and his melodicas. Ian's amplifier (a yamaha ga 100 212) got stolen but I believe later refound alongside the rest of the purged new order gear. You can see Ian's amplifier being used as a monitor in the 1981 celebration tv special. Ian's stuff long persisted in the band 😊

You're right that Natalie Curtis inherited it. I believe it got sold at auction a few years ago for £141k. Well above the auction guide. Not sure who owns it now.@@eamonnquigley2125

Unbelievable! How can EEG last 18 and Sister Ray 9? Devolution nonsense that lasted quite far into my lifetime
