  • This video is a combination of four videos that I filmed over 6 weeks while receiving, grading and selling 10 2015 American Liberty High relief coins. Each of these coin contain one ounce of pure gold.
I purchased 10 coins from the U.S. mint on the first day of issue, sent them to NGC, graded and sold them. By doing this I got myself several ounces of FREE GOLD BULLION COINS.
    Enjoy!

So spend a large amount of money in the hopes of flipping them. This coin sold out within hours because a lot of flippers like this guy bought the household limit. Most of them were graded MS70 and are selling for $1,800 right now on ebay. So each coin retailed for $1,490 from the mint. You spend a lot of money on grading and postage to and from NGC and then hope to get a few proof-like examples which sell for around $3,000 on ebay. That seems like a lot of risk in terms of capital outlay vs. reward.

I wish I was smart enough to do this coin shit. I’m struggling to understand mint marks and the value of silver dollars.
This dude just said that one of his brand new gold coins was BETTER than perfect! I obviously need to reevaluate my definition of “perfect”!
I didn’t know that there was a classification higher than “perfect”?
This shit makes me feel so dumb and I’m actually an Engineer. I always feel like a pretty smart guy until I start trying to understand shit like this! Lol

@GeorgeBonez - If you are an Engineer, you obviously are not dumb. But if you are going to buy something as a hobby or an investment, you've got to know what you are doing. There is an old saying in coin collecting . . . Buy the book, before you buy the coin. There are a fair amount of books on collecting on the web, that will help you acquire the info you need, so that you will lessen the chance of losing money, later on. (and possibly make money later on). This guy sounds like he has been an investor for quite some time, if not decades. He is doing stuff on this video, that possibly took him that long to learn, without losing his shirt. Hope this is encouragement for you.

I have not bought any coins yet. I find a big markup at the Canadian mint and if I buy or sell in the U.S. I get gouged by the federal tax, state tax and who knows what else. I have a 1880 liberty half eagle five d. "I believe it is MS 65 or better and am planning to submit it to PCGS for grading to see what the grade comes back as from them. " Then I will decide to put it up on Ebay or not. Thanks for your encouragement. It seems 'dealers' order big lots from the Canadian Mint and then sell them and you do not know how good the grade may be. Take care! Thanks for your checking up on my progress. "All the best to you!" Jim.

I am glad at the end of the video you make a statement showing you know these grading systems are a scam.
If more people would use some common sense and do the research, they will know no one can tell an MS69 from an MS70. The coin companies keep their businesses going by knowing people will gamble to get a perfect score, so they label some and the other coins they give MS69.
As long as people will buy the slab and not the holder - which is foolish, people will be able to take advantage of this scam.

Excellent excellent excellent that was incredible information. You are one of the smartest precious metals investors or maybe the smartest i have seen. For your next video break down efficiently the secrets of ebay please i.e. commision costs, scam prevention (in case they say ‘you sent a empty box'), collection of funds into your bank, shipping insurance etc.

There is a risk on ebay of the buyer claiming they received an empty box, however you can overcome this by having evidence to show that it was indeed posted with an item inside. However they can always claim its not genuine or even request a return and send you a fake coin back, there is many scams buyers use on ebay, even on paypal.
There is no way to overcome this (I sold 500 items a month on ebay for a few years) ebay will not hear your side or story, they make a ruling, you are unable to speak to anyone who can even tell you why it was made or what to do, and they take the money from you. On higher value items they do ask the buyer a few questions, however if you are unable to provide proof as the seller that it was indeed a different coin they sent back, or not just an empty box, they will take the buyers side. I have taken video evidence of all high value postings, I get the box set up with packing etc, I then start the video before going into the post office, I will place the item in the box with a pre-printed ebay label for proof, I will video the item going inside and being sealed over the top, and handed to the assistant, scanned and receipt given with tracking barcode :- I have never had a problem with the ones I have done this with, and thus I don't know if this would change ebays decsions to someone claiming an empty box or different item)
You can however withdraw the money before any problems if its not been made unavailable, and then paypal can't touch it if you stop contact with your bank, however they will try and reclaim the money and shut your accounts down (buyer loses out in this case)
Ebay take 10% of the total sale cost, and paypal take 3-5% of the total sale. So on $6000 you get around $5100 (On all big sales like this you can try and say to the buyer you need to speak to them outside of ebay, via email or phone and can split the difference or try and sell outside ebay, beware however if ebay catch this and you word it wrong, they don't like it, however on higher value items in the UK if it saved me £500 for example, then I would tell them ill drive down the next day and can do cash on collection, they can see the item, I get the money, and we cancel the sale on ebay, everyone happy and you save plenty and even take £40 off the item price for them as a hook)
Collection of funds is done via paypal which is easy and takes under 1 min with no fees, insurance in the UK comes with the type of shipping, and you can purchase extra, and a loop hole in their definition will allow me to send numismatic coins as jewelry and not have to purchase specialized insurance.
If you want complete security, don't use Ebay.
If you want a much wider audience and potential higher prices, take a small risk and use Ebay.
If you really do have high high value coins however list on free sites with a decent audience and be patient, Ebay is great for moving items fast, but the fees are a killer,

At first I got all excited and wanted to start ordering gold coins (with zero knowledge) lol then I got to thinking more about it, and I still see it as a big gamble, what if he did not pull two "PL 70s? it seems like spinning the wheel somewhat, if he landed on 6, 8, 10 "69s" he would be fresh outta luck! unless you can make back all the expenses incurred, that's a lotta bank to lay out, to maybe break even or slightly under, depending on costs, either way, the man had the parts to roll the dice, and came up with a pair of PL lucky 7s! very nice play! I tip my hat to you sir! Next... Google: Gold coins for dummies! SHOW ME THE MONEEEEEY!!!! haha.

Folks, this is a very old video based on the volatile new coins pricing. As of today on 2-22-20, this very coin at MS-70 state can be had around $2,000 (check out Ebay for yourself). It is unfortunate to many people who actually paid around $6,000 when the coin was newly graded at MS-70 and was offered to sell to the secondary market.

Why you have to liberate the gold coin and store it in a generic plastic casing? And by liberating the gold coin from the original US MINT casing reduce the value and authenticity of the gold coin? Thanks In Advance!

And the generic plastic that he put it in at the end was the capsule that came with the coin from the mint. Hope this helps.

Yes if he really sold them for what he claimed that would cover Ebay fees and grading fees. Coins cost under 15k and he sold them for over 19k Ebay takes around 10% grading fees vary depending on how many you do at once and level of membership but all in I'm guessing around $500 in grading fees for the 10 coins.

Coin Advisor has one MS-70 PL PCGS for 11,700 When i send in how can I can I get original boxes back. I have a bunch of first release eligible coins never opened. PCGS rep told me no limit on getting first strike as long as i never opened original box. Paper submission has so many options I am intimidated about filling in correctly. May I ask why you chose NGC over PCGS? Never ceases to amaze me identical coins graded the same only one by NCG and other by PCGS and PCGS under sold in ebay gets a higher price. Thank you

Not sure what you are supposed to buy. For example Apmex has raw 1oz gold eagles for 1317 and NGC MS70 ones for 1383. You can't make any money slabbing the raw ones and hoping for an ms70 on these so what do you buy?

I have a question about the proof like coins. Could you actually tell a difference between those 2 and your others that were graded 70 and 69? I'm wondering if it's just arbitrary to a degree and if NGC just says "Ok, this guy is a good customer and sends us a lot of coins, we'll give him 2 MS70 PL to keep his business."

What did NGC charge to grade those 10 coins? Thanks!

    • @Bobster986
      @Bobster986 8 лет назад +2

I eventually found that they charge a percentage (maybe 5-10%) of the appraised value of the coin for the service.

I have a question... why the us coins are so expensive in the us mint website?? Dealers don’t have that expensive what is the difference

Seems like a great strategy. Thank you for posting. Would you do the same with new gold Eagle proofs or do you think it works best with special release coins?

Thanks. I think your best bet is special release coins.

That's actually genius. How would you recommend someone on a low budget start something like this? I don't really have 10K to buy 10 gold coins right now.

The hell you guys talking about? If you're buying them at that price you are getting mugged, they are most likely fake. (If we're talking about standard 1oz coins, presumably)

A lot of times you can’t tell at all without a magnification, other times you can see a tiny dot, smudge, or ding that kept it from getting ms70
