Such an underrated goalie throughout his career. Sens would not have gone nearly as far without him in 2017
As I noted on his 300-win video also: 31st in wins all-time right now, despite NEVER playing for a legitimate contender. (If not for him and Condon, that 2016-17 team wouldn't have made the playoffs, a total mirage.)
Even if we merely shuffled around the teams on this board--no others allowed--how much higher would he be? Flip the Blackhawks and Avalanche plus the Panthers with the Sabres and Capitals, and we're talking about a goalie likely en route to the Hall of Fame. His SV% from 2006 to 2017 is absolutely ridiculous, and I don't think of any of those teams as particularly defensively adept (despite Guy Boucher's best attempts).
As a Sabres fan, I would love for nothing more than to see Craig Anderson come back as a goalie coach for us. Much respect for CA!
As a Sens fan, I think you mean for us
@@danglezbenderz, that’s okay too. Anderson was great for your team, and if he wanted to be a goalie coach there, I wouldn’t blame him. I think CA has a wealth of knowledge that can be transferred to young netminders, and he’d be a great addition to any coaching staff imo.
Btw, your Sens had a nice season. Hopefully we’ll see you next year (and for years to come) in the playoffs!
I’ve thought the same
Great call
I loved him for his two years in Buffalo he was so much more than just a veteran depth signing for goaltending he ended up becoming one of our leaders and really helped turn the franchise around I will forever be grateful for his two years spent with Buffalo thank you very much Anderson we will miss you enjoy your retirement
He had a great career. Glad he ended it with a win vs his old team.
As you said, he was one of the best goalies when it came to playoff performances. This dude faced off against guys like Lundqvist and Price in their prime and matched them shot-for-shot. He posted a 51-save shutout against a powerhouse Sharks team while in Colorado. Still gutted he got injured in 2012-13 and missed out on what was his Vezina to lose.
Best goaltender in Sens history. Great video!
Yup. Won series over Rask, Price, and Lundqvist in the playoffs.
no. Hasek
It's Sidorkiewicz of course 😂.
@@sst6601 no It’s still Andy
@SST true, but half a season doest really count for much.
Been a CA fan for a long long time.
So happy he played and won his last game.
Fittingly against the Sens,
Loved the ovation he got.
Very very underrated. As a sharks fan, I remember 2010 when he had a very good goalie duel against Nabokov
and nearly stole the series. Huge playoff goalie was Anderson
That .929 career playoff save percentage is 3rd all time, behind Tim Thomas and Jonas Hiller (minimum 20 gp). Also, I like that he finished his career with the same amount of wins as Mikka Kiprusoff.
Absolute workhorse, seems like such a nice guy. Congratulations on a great career and happy retirement
One of those guys who you don't think of as an elite goalie, but he could go toe to toe with the best and steal you games when he was locked in. Given his 300 wins and the fact he's one of the best US born tendies ever, is he a dark horse HOF candidate?
What a career he carved out for himself. Great video. Thanks Shannon!
i knew of anderson, however i was 14-15 years old and got an invite to his private camp in chicago, and he is beyond a good mentor. deeply analytical sense of the game, terrific tendy coach definitely could have a career in it if he chooses
As a sens fan I miss him, sad that he went to buffalo!
I'm gonna remember him most for being the goalie Auston Matthews scored four on in his debut, a game Anderson won.
As a Sens fan, hope we retire #41 in a near future.
Got to see his final game in person, it was cool to see.
Craig Anderson the only goalie i was scared to see my habs play against because he was so good against us
I hope the sens honor him and retire his number. He was a sens legend, without him, we would've been nowhere
The first time I heard of him was when he played against the Hurricanes and I noticed the Anderson vs Andersen matchup. Anderson won, and it was fun to watch him.
He has to be one of the most underrated tenders ever. I loved watching him. Imagine him on an amazing, big market team...
As a Sens fan, I can say with absolute certainty that Andy was the best goalie we ever had.
I have his jersey, definitely one of the Sens favorites of all time!
One of my favorite goalies of all time. I love his story I love how he just hung in there constanlty
I remember when he was in Chicago playing against the Canucks and at that time, the Hawks were one of the few teams the Canucks could consistently beat. I didn't know anyone who thought Craig Anderson would be the goalie he became. It just seemed odd to me that going from Chicago to Florida actually improved his numbers substantially, because at that time, the Panthers weren't exactly a better team than the Hawks. But once he got his game together, he carved out a really solid career for himself. Unless there are injury issues, goalies seem to be able to play longer than a skater, which is good because it usually takes them longer to develop. That's why you probably don't want to give up on a goalie when they're young because they've had a couple of iffy seasons. You end up selling low and someone else ends up reaping the rewards.
Glad he ended with a good year, would love to see a Chris Neil career video since I couldn't find one on your channel and his number was retired this year.
I was pretty bummed when that knuckleball got past him in OT. He was a great goalie, and I really enjoyed how insightful he was in the sit down interview he did recently, now that he's retired it adds extra significance to it.
Will Always Be my all time favourite Ottawa Goalie
I'm sure this will never happen, but I'd love to see see Andy back in Ottawa as a goalie coach/development coach. Whatever he does in his retirement, though, I'm sure he will give it his all
As a soccer fan he reminds me of players like Gianluigi Buffon who is still going strong in his mid 40s
I always think of a game he played against the Islanders when he was on Florida. He had 53 saves in a 1-0 win. At the time it set a record for most saves in a 1-0 shutout. I think the record might have been broken since (by Ben Scrivens?), but am not sure. He and Elliott were traded for each other so long ago, and up to this year both were still playing in the league.
00:33 I think you mean 1999, not 89, though it would be pretty impressive If he was drafted by the NHL in 89 when he was only 8 years old.
Rumor was he outright quit on the Avalanche in the second season. He had some nasty things to say about his time there and teammates. And the others didn't hold back on him either.
Wish the Sabres could’ve made the playoffs for him
He most definitely was not a "surprise starter" that first year in Colorado. The year before we had Andrew Rycroft and Peter Budaj. The Denver Post article said "Colorado finally has a goalie!" And he was everything as advertised.
Should have never traded Andy to Ottawa. Traded Shattenkirk and Stewart for St Louis the next day for Johnson, and I still hate that trade. We definately tanked for Landy. Nuge was not the best player in that dradt.
Andy wasn't the problem that second season. It's just that we had nothing in front of him.
Andy was the man in Colorado as far as I'm concerned. That playoff run doesn't happen without him. We just weren't good enough to keep him here as he was hitting UFA.
Go Sens Go!
9:27 that cat is really going to town ! lol.
Let’s not forget the last 2 years he’s unseated against the leafs.
Officially he's not retired.
Damm you chicken parmesan ! Ty for video.
Glad he was able to end on a decent note
So how about a career video of PJ Axelsson?
"Thirteen goaltenders have scored a total of sixteen goals in National Hockey League (NHL) games. A goalkeeper can score by either shooting the puck into the net, or being awarded the goal as the last player on his team to touch the puck when an opponent scored an own goal; in the case of own goals, the combined circumstance of the own goal itself in addition to the goaltender being the last player to touch the puck makes it a very rare occurrence."
"In 1979, Billy Smith became the first NHL goaltender in history to be credited with a goal."
"Jose Theodore, then playing for the Montreal Canadiens, scored a goal and shutout in a 3-0 game against the New York Islanders."
"Before the creation of the NHL in 1917, there were some instances recorded of goaltenders rushing down the ice to participate in the play, occasionally scoring a goal."
"Martin Brodeur is the only goaltender to be credited with three goals, two in the regular season and one in the playoffs. He is also the only goaltender credited with a game-winning goal."
"The record holder for most regular-season career shutouts in the National Hockey League (NHL) is Martin Brodeur with 125."
"Goaltenders have participated in the offence, albeit in a limited way, since the earliest days of the sport; This practice fell out of favour with goalies and coaches; it was eventually outlawed (goalies are not allowed to cross the centre red line to play the puck) after the Toronto Maple Leafs' Gary Smith was injured on such a rush in the 1966-67 NHL season."
would be nice if he came back to ottawa to be a goalie coach
Your cat at 9:40
He was running away with the Vezina in 2013 till he got hurt. Too bad he will be associated with the franchise ending knucklepuck.
0:34 1989??????
He meant 1999…
He be quite the pioneer if it was 1989
@@samuelfrick3475 that’s what I figured. Was still funny though as it immediately reminded me of Jaromír Jágr lol
Did his wife make a full recovery from the cancer?
hey shannon when you give a recap of a game can you give your opinion who played better, the reason other teams lost and who should have won the game instead. instead of a recap we could watch on game highlights
Always liked Anderson. It's too bad it feels kike he never quite played on a contender.
Must have been a dinner bell at 3:05
