The hydrogen gas isn’t that dangerous if it’s in small amounts and a low concentration. It actually makes a squeaky pop sound as it burns if you put a flame near it.
The plastic coating in the can isn't to stop it tasting metallic and keeping it fresh. The plastic coating in soda cans is to stop the acid in the soda eating the can like you just did.
Today I saw the experiment with the solving Coca Cola tin again in a video about plastics and sperm count. 😂😂😂 The video was on the channel of ABC science from Australia. It was to show plastic is everywhere. Three young men watching the experiment made the expected horrified noises, and that was it. I suppose it’s serious, but I can’t stop laughing about it.
The drain cleaner by the way is sodium hydroxide, very dangerous in itself. Wear PPE if you try this .... safety glasses , gloves, and full body covering recommended as a minimum
