Wow, amazing! My father had the exact year and color of this model back in '79. I can remember him dropping me off at my elementary school, and some of the teachers would comment and ask what my father did for a living. These cars literally make you feel like you are driving with no wheels. It's kind of funny, but I cringed when you shut that trunk with some force. You only need to lower the lid until it catches, and then the trunk motor pulls it down. I learned this very quick as a kid, because I got one hell of a tongue-lashing for slamming down the trunk once.
So i did I. Those vents reminds me in 1984
I LOVE those velour bench seats. Extremely comfortable. You no longer can find that kind of comfort in a new car.
This is Cadillac's best year. The most beautiful, most stylish Floatmobile that's been manufactured yet.
Definitely the best year
I still have my mom's 79 Sedan DeVille same color with 31,000. miles mint just like this one. This particular one is fairly base model as the high end like my mom's has tuffted leather and power moon roof. Even these base models were fully optioned. my parents owned the Oldsmobile \ Cadillac dealership in town great memories of those cars.
My parents bought exactly the same Fleetwood off the showroom floor in late 1978. I turned 16 a few months later and I learned to drive in this car. If you are a Cadillac enthusiast or collector and want to own a truly remarkable Cadillac model, this is the one to have. Having owned several new Cadillacs in the 35 years since learning to drive, I have yet to ride in or drive any car that could match the overall experience of that 1979 Fleetwood.
Are you sure you remember the car? The Fleetwoods of 1977-1979 have wreath and crest ornaments, not crest and chevron. Also, the DeVille sedan has B-pillar lines that are parallel while the fleetwood's are perpendicular. All it takes is a quick comparison on google images.
There are plenty of videos like this OF 1977-1979 Fleetwoods for this comment. Take care!
This is what you call a real classic car.
I was a high school sophomore when this Caddy came out...and I would dream of owning one even back then!
Beautiful. My grandma had a 1978 Cadillac DeVille D'Elegance. It's our now. I've never been more comfortable than in the back seat of that beauty.
What a car, easily my favorite of all time. Nothing screamed executive level like this Cadillac.
I believe this was the first year ALL Caddies got the seatbelt chime. It was an actual mechanical chime! You forgot to show that. Also, you defeated the use of the power trunk pull down the way you closed it. You must shut it gently or it will break.
Beautiful car and probably the best final year! Surprised it doesn’t have the split front seat or leather. Almost too nice to drive!
Nice car, IMO I consider 1979 to be the last great year of the classic Cadillac's due to the bulletproof powertrain's and it was the last year of the mighty V8 engine.
My '77 Sedan DeVille is a testimonial to this, however I beg to differ when it comes to what you are looking for. My '92 DeVille is every bit as Cadillac as the '77 with the interesting twist of some computers and front wheel drive (though I'm doing a Rear Wheel Drive swap with a 425 V8 this year), and my '87 Brougham is absolute heaven to cruise in, the 1980s (and Italian) version of the '77. Even my 2000 DeVille (RIP) still had a lot of the charm even if it didn't really look the part. After 2001? Absolutely agree. The 2006 DTS is a far cry from a Cadillac. Felt more like a Toyota Avalon or Volvo S80. Not necessarily a bad thing, those are good cars, but they're not Cadillacs. Thankfully I didn't have the black one for very long.
I would buy it just because of its survivor state. Original and unrestored, as Leno says. Nooo, that aftermarket radio!! That would be my first task, to remove that.
This is a truly amazing original car!! Now Imagine finding a 1981 Cadillac with the notorious 368 cid V-8-6-4 which is still in perfect working order! One of my high school teachers had one and stated the electrical service manual for it was as thick as a phone book!
My dad had one of these same year 79 it's sailed down the road!
Beautiful Car. I would have kept the radio original though. Got lots of 8 tracks to ply on it.
I can’t believe they touched anything
Most people at this time ordered cassette players!
Time capsule is the word for it. When he put it on the lift my jaw dropped, as that car is brand new.
So, now it's official, you got a Delorean Time machine and you're bringing this beauty from the past as new.
I had one in a stretched limousine,
I absolutely loved that car,
I put hundreds of thousands of miles on it motor never gave up 500+ thousand miles
As a teenager, I worked for a funeral home by taking care of the procession cars. This Caddy looks exactly like the one I remember having to clean and detail the entire car inside and out every week. It was a beauty just like this one and always kept in just the same pristine condition. It was considered an upper-class car. It had class and curb appeal that got admiring looks. I remember driving it and it was everything good that once was GM. It is nice to see this one here in the video. I'd hate to see it turned into a "cruiser". This car deserves to be kept and used in just the true grand condition it is right now.
I bought this same car in beige with brown leather interior in 1979. I drove it in nine European countries for 10 years and sold it to a car museum in Feldafing on Starnberger See in Germany. I loved that car and it never gave me a minutes worry
The three years of this generation, 1977 thru 1979, and especially the '78 and '79 years, were the best looking of all late 20th century Cadillacs. They've got style and class that wasn't even quite as good when they did the style changes in 1980.
You need a pair of clean jeans ;)
Love the bench seat.
Used your video as reference for bench seat conversion on my scale Jo-Han '79 cpe Dvlle.
I will use you undercarriage segment when I get to the color coating stage.
Thanks for sharing.
The Most Beautiful Car I Have Ever Seen In My Life!!! I would love to have one!!!!! This is my favorite car!!!!!!!!
The mileage on this gorgeous Cadillac is almost unbelievable.Everything on this car is amazing .Thanks for sharing.
My parents had one from that year - always loved it !
Awesome. Great car. The style is timeless.
just beautiful , as you said brand new 79, Amazing
Beautiful Cadillac
The first time I was a passenger in these model Cadillacs, it was for the 1979, junior/senior prom. I was wearing a dark gray tux, my date a teal colored gown. As a surprise, my folks hired a chauffeured, silver Fleetwood, formal limousine. We were both laughing, and nervous. I had never been in a car like that. It was a beautiful car. The interior was just as impressive. When we were driving north on I 75, I told the driver no hurry. We didn’t need to be first to arrive. That led to our classmates passing us in multiple cars, and teachers seeing us and pointing. We arrived about 45 minutes past arrival time. We did look nice as the driver opened our door. We ended the evening at a revolving lounge on top of the Plaza Hotel in Detroit. The surprise Cadillac was a special memory. 3 years later my folks kicked me out when they found out I was gay. No limousine that time, and they took my car away. They eventually came around, and took my partner and I on a cruise for our 10th anniversary. It was limo time again, but the first time was most memorable.
This is why I subscribed to your channel. These things are absolutely gorgeous. I would rather pay top dollar for a pristine condition car like this rather than the cars on the road today. My only request is to put the price in the description. I am sure many people are interested and would like to know a rough estimate.
Perfect color for almost any car in my opinion and it has the velour seats. Tons of curb appeal with this one right here!!!
As a kid, I used to clean exactly one of these, year and color every moning in the garage. I saved that memory since then
When I was living in US ,I had one of those I miss it a bunch!
You have a great sense of Humor.
The comments you made about the Fedora made me Laugh!
Thank You !
Jeff
There's nothing more than to go and behind the wheel of a classic vehicle. Because the vehicles of today doesn't compare to the classic vehicles that rule the streets...which by the way the classic vehicles will never fade away!!! A lot of classics is still kept within a family to passed down from one family member to another. Where i'm from, we still have people driving classics as if the vehicles came from the factory!!! Aloha!
Absolutely beautiful...
I owned this model. White with sky blue interior. Most beautiful car I ever had.
Thank you, Kermit, Gorgeous Cadillac! I had owned a 72 Deville, bought in 1985 for $1200 (472ci, 125k) way past its prime. 3-speed transmission seems archaic in the age of 6-7 speed transmissions. My birthday is coming up - if you could deliver it to Minnesota.😁
Cadillac DeVille Fifth generation (1977-1984) & The '60s and' 70s were the golden years of American cars
Favorite car in GTA IV & V. The Emperor.
Absolutely breathtaking. very nice indeed.
Love ❤️ this THING man!!!
Wow! If I remember correctly the original price of the 1979 Cadillac Sedan Deville DeElegance was approximately 24,000
the thing???
Mint Mint Mint!!! Truly Mint! ...WOW!!!
What a fantastic piece of automotive history. Awful styling back then, in my opinion, but a classic non-the-less!
Fantastic job in being knowledgeable when presenting this beaut!!!
The word "thing" is carved into my brain. What thing...lol
Love it!
Normally I prefer the d'Elegance trim, but this car would still be way too hard to pass up. It looks absolutely exquisite.
Beautiful.
jeez, that's one quiet car
I said the same thing! My mother's 2004 Volvo is louder than that!
My parents had one(leather interior) in 79,badass car
This is my second fav car next to 1986 Fleetwood
thats my favorite car
Wow... time warp.. it amazes me how well people keep these old cars in such new crisp condition! Cars were just better looking back then, hands down. It's like a new car underneath! Beautiful!
So many of these where driftwood brown or bronze crazy colors for 1979
Pure Art!
It's a "Sedan" de Ville. I have one and a Fleetwood Brougham. They ride very good. The Fleetwood Brougham has an aluminum hood and 4 wheel disc brakes from the factory. Someone has touched up the undercarriage, they don't look that nice even when new. Nice car. How much did it sell for?
It's a gem ✌️
The last year of the "real" Cadillacs.
Dream car
Greg showed a black 75 caddy and he too slammed the deck lid like you. I did that when I was a kid and my old man lost it 😖😳
Odd that you could get a bench seat on a Cadillac. Seems like split seats by that time would be standard on a "luxury" car. I can see a bench seat being standard on a lesser GM model but not a Cadillac.
I recall seeing these in the late 80s selling for scraps, never really been a fan of the styling but as many mentioned I would buy it due to the honesty and rarity of this car. Nice!
The underside is so clean, glad you didn’t take it out in the rain. Nowadays everything is a stiff, bouncy SUV that drives like a school bus. Why have we gone backwards with comfort and style?
is it still up for sale
Cool Car
Did they made the 1979 Cadillac DeVille with a sunroof??
my first car. I had wild times in it.
Why do VMS never say how much the cars are selling for ?
It is so hard to find these older Cadillacs in good shape if you come across one, grab it!

Very nice. The interior of my parents 1982 Buick Electra Limited was actually nicer (seats and instruments) than that though. It was guttless though with a V6 😂

Fabulous automobile and thorough “walk through”, but please stop referring to the car as “the thing”. Most annoying.
Beautiful Car! It's a classic NOT a thing!
Whan you close the trunk bring it down slow and a small electric motor will pull it to lock.
Are the dirty pants with the stains down the front part of the act?
