    Mná na hÉireann
    Tá bean in Éirinn a bhronnfadh séad dom 's mo sháith le n-ól
    Tá bean in Éirinn 's ba bhinne léithe mo ráfla ceoil ná seinm téad
    Tá bean in Éirinn, 's níorbh fhearr léi beo
    Mise ag léimneach nó leagtha i gcré is mo thárr faoi fhód
    Tá bean in Éirinn a bheadh ag éad liom mur' bhfaighfinn ach póg
    Ó bhean ar aonach, nach ait an scéala, is mo dháimh féin leo
    Tá bean ab fhearr liom nó cath is céad dhíobh nach bhfagham go deo
    'S tá cailín spéiriúil ag fear gan bhéarla, dubhghránna cróin
    Tá bean in Éirinn a leagfadh nífead s d'fhuaifeadh cáimric is sról,
    Is tá bean a dhéanfadh de dh'olainn gréas 's thairnfeadh an bhró
    Tá bean is b'fhearr leí bheith ag cruinniú déirce nó cráite le cróI
    'S tá bean 'na ndéidh sin a luífeadh lefear is a máthair faoi fhód
    Tá bean a déarfadh dá siulfainn léi go bhfaighinn an t-ór,
    Tá bean 'na léine is fearr a méin ná táinte bó
    Le bean a bhuairfeadh Baile an Mhaoir is clár Thír Eoghain,
    Is ní fheicim leigheas ar mo ghalar féin ach an scaird a dh'ól
    Translation to English:
    There’s a woman in Ireland who’d give me a gem and my fill to drink
    There’s a woman in Ireland to whom my singing is sweeter than the music of strings
    There’s a woman in Ireland who would much prefer me leaping
    Than laid in the clay and my belly under the sod
    There’s a woman in Ireland who’d envy me if I got naught but a kiss
    From a woman at a fair, isn’t it strange, and the love I have for them
    There’s a woman I’d prefer to a battalion, and a hundred of them whom I will never get
    And an ugly, swarthy man with no English has a beautiful girl
    There’s a woman who would lay out, would clean and would sew cambric and satin cloth,
    And there’s a woman who would make designs out of wool and lower the millstone
    There’s a woman who would rather be collecting alms than to hassle with a coop
    And there is woman besides them who would lie with a man and her mother under the sod
    There’s a woman who would say that if I walked with her I’d get the gold
    And there’s the woman of the shirt whose mien is better than herds of cows
    With a woman who would deafen Baile an Mhaoir and the plain of Tyrone
    And I see no cure for my disease but to gulp down the drink

    As an Irish man I'm from Cork city and there is a lot of variations of this song but either way it is the most haunting of ballads it is basically what us Irish people are

    Sibeal started her set at the Angels Of The Cathedral concert in Dublin last night with this. She stunned us all into silence with it. As far as singing is concerned, the performance - with a guitar, fiddle and strings arrangement, in St Patrick's Cathedral - was simply ..as good as it gets. World class. I'm off to buy her album.

    La version que je préfère...Mais c'est sans importance! Sans doute cette langue énigmatique pour moi!! Mais aussi cette diction, cette voix. Technique envoutante accompagnée par une guitare très à l'écoute. Magnifique. Merci pour ce partage.

    Grace me with thine summer eyes;
    And I can return but a simpleton's smile.
    Your voice exudes the warmth of hearths;
    Known and lost in the times.
    Take my hand and return me,
    To home, and hearth, and warmth.
    In the cold times, your voice guides me.
    Muse of my texts; bless me with song.
    Thy voice maketh words unwritten wrote;
    From the mouth of an unsinger sung.
    Unbeknownst to you, I hear your call,
    I am in being; your thrall.
    My clumsy poetry,
    Be all for thee.

    Very very nice. I recorded an instrumental version of this for the IrishSpace production for the museum in Tralee a long time ago (the world's first virtual reality epic; really). And I used to perform it solo in my acoustic sets, but the gaelic lyrics and my American southern accent seemed to confuse my audiences in Alabama. ;)
    Beautiful version, folks.

      Mike Johnson
      Our culture is dying, thanks to our governments. Leo Varadaker, our prime minister, who is not even full Irish, he is half Indian and does not care about Irish culture, but our stupid people thought it would be cool to elect him because he is gay, and today it is very popular to be gay. Our young people are not the Irish of old, they are entitled and privileged and only think of themselves, greedy and selfish, shame on their parents, they are destroying our country, culture and heritage.We now have wholesale abortion in Ireland and these privileged idiots, cheered and laughed and celebrated the fact that millions of babies would be slaughtered so they could enjoy being promiscuous. Shame on Ireland, Shame on the parents of all those evil entitled imbeciles.
