Many students struggle with mental health. Anxiety during exam season when stress levels are at an all time high is also quite common and many of you have told me that you experience that or worse.
I struggle with stress and anxiety, and this is the first time I am discussing about it in a video. I hope this video sheds a light on the importance of mental health and helps some of you feel less alone.
So in this video, we talk about how to stop self-sabotage which halts your progress, how to make a manageable to-do list that is not overwhelming, how to reduce anxiety, how to stop feeling so overwhelmed with big tasks, how to rest properly and how to reset your life.

I wish I could hold back tears writing this. I was ignored so many times for not understanding certain topics in school, now it's gotten even harder to study and focus. It's a like a noose on my neck, it keeps getting tighter. I've always been a bright student, I've never failed truly but my grades are dropping nowadays. I have taken the habits of procrastination and other negative traits. Crazy thoughts cloud my judgement, I feel demotivated to do anything even the games I used to play are no longer fun but I still play it. I am devoid of joy for past 2-3 years, I've become lazy and keep holding myself back. There's no true friends I've that i can talk to. I feel everyone is pretentious and truth be said my parents never cared for sanity in the first place. I'm sinking in a bottomless pit and there's no to save me. Seeing my friends getting good grades makes me frustrated, unsatisfied and unhappy. Teachers are dragging my confidence down into shambles. I'm trying to bounce back but it's so hard, my mental health is deteriorating. I've become paranoid and anxious lately that I may have a major and fatal disease and end up dying young. I don't know what's happening to me.

@@BinodiniMahapatra-pz7vv it's not you. it's the environment that hampers your health. teachers putting pressure on you and interacting with toxic people everyday is just mentally draining. just try to find a hobby so that you can distract yourself from this things or do something that you always wanted to that can help you reach your long term goals, i am kinda recovering right now from procastination (in the early stages). just get a good friend or partner who you can share your thoughts to. it works, i did it and remember the key advice.

I like your advice to not compare yourself to when you were “better”. I feel a lot of pressure from my family and doctors to “get better”. Like if I have a depression or anxiety episode, the assumption is that my treatment is failing and the expectation is that I’m not allowed to feel okay with myself until I’m “better” again. It feels like I don’t have the privilege that neurotypicals do to just… have a bad day/week/month without it meaning anything greater.

    • @internetgirl2001
      @internetgirl2001 Год назад +43

same. i'm tired of the "but are you getting better, right??" question. No i'm not. I'm tired of being so pressured into changing something i have literally zero control about. Antidepressants wasn't making any difference. I might as well be having tums or tictacs every morning instead of medication, based on me "getting better". I recently found out i might have bipolar disorder, so maybe that's why i never get "truly better". It's just hypomanic episodes. I know it sounds weird, but knowing this makes me feel kinda glad and it's extremely comforting, because i know at least where are these eternal up and downs coming from, and that i don't expect to have a normal brain - now i won't keep on getting disappointed on my mental health- and i might never recover, but at least i can predict how things are gonna be from now on lol

2020 really threw me off in the worst ways possible. I didn’t like doing homework back when I was young, but even with the ones I put low effort in and couldn’t do as well as it should’ve. The pandemic and coronavirus didn’t help as it gave me too many existential crises that really got me thinking what will I do to the point I die. I’m held back by my past failings, my flaws and the things I hate about myself. So watching this video brought me comfort, thank you x

Thanks so much Faye. And your message at the end made me cry. I literally needed this a lot. I can't bring myself to even open my textbooks now. I get so much anxiety and stress, I can't even sleep properly. I just worry about how I am not doing anything and that I am a failure. It’s also really hard when you have people who just push you to live up to their expectations, you know. And the hardest part is that you know that they do this for your own sake. But when you are literally struggling so much and you are mentally and physically stressed, tired and drained, it doesn’t even matter. This is probably the biggest youtube comment I ever wrote. But this is a safe place for me and I just wanted to rant so...yeah.

Thank you so much for this video! I recently started my PhD, and at the start of it I developed the most intense imposter syndrome I've ever experienced. It got so bad that it sent me into a deep depression that I've been trying to get out of all year. I haven't been able to motivate myself to work, I'm always tired, and I've been constantly comparing myself to the student I once was. Because I thought I was a failure, I became too exhausted to put all the effort in anymore. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy. I just started studying for my qualifying exam and I'm getting nervous about how much I still have to learn, but you reminded me that's important to keep my eyes set on what's immediately ahead -- and don't stress about the rest. I'm not as productive as I used to be, but I've improved so much from just a week ago -- and it's important to be proud of myself for that!

I've been making myself feel worse.

I loved how you showed the little thing about increasing the focus time from around 5 minutes to 15 minutes, which felt so accepting of the times that it does happen when it seems impossible to focus for longer durations. The point about pounding ourselves over something which hasn't happened yet and being in the moment. basically i related to whole video and i think most of us do realize all these points but it becomes difficult to recall all these things when you are just not in the right headspace, and in those times your videos are crucial and help us all back to present.

This actually made me think over it and how I can just take a break at times, because I started forcing myself to do 20 things a day and when I could not I'd just feel really bad about myself. Thank you!

this is perfect thank you. a lot of the advice I see is for neurotypical people or people with anxiety, not for people like me who can barely get out of bed. This video is exactly what I need right now and I have a feeling I will refer back to this video many times :)

Thank you for the sweet message in the end, Faye! I tend to feel stressed when I see my friends doing really great in non-academic activities like university organizations, committees, voluntary work, etc. I had zero experience like that in high school, so in university, I'm trying to catch up and build my resume. At times I feel proud because I've joined some organizations, volunteering activities in and out of school, and committees in the past year, but I've always held the position of staff and nothing higher because I don't feel like I'm qualified or good enough to take on higher positions. I know (and I've had a friend tell this to my face) that I can't stay being a staff forever, but it's just so hard to take another step further out my comfort zone when I'm already way outside of it. I feel scared taking up higher positions in committees and organizations and sometimes I break down in bed thinking I'm not good enough. I'm scared of leading people, I'm scared of delegating tasks and trusting others, I prefer doing the work all by myself, I'm scared of the commitment and the consequences if my team messes up. But I'm more scared of not improving.

I tend to get stressed when I think of the expectations I have to meet and the people I don't want to let down, up to the point that it clouds my judgement on if I should be doing what I am doing right now in university. But keeping that aside, Thank you for this video. I believe you have shown me steps I can start to try and apply to figure out things one step at a time. And your special message made me tear up because it means a whole lot! Thanks Faye for touching on this topic! Its always so satisfying to watch the videos you make! 😆Looking forward to more in the future!!!!🤩

As a student with severe burnout, I truly truly appreciate this video. I can't seem to get anyone in my life to understand what's going on in my head and why I'm not the way I used to be. My parents keep blaming me saying I'm just being lazy or influenced by bad friends etc, no matter how I try to explain. I'm sending you a biiiig hug. Thank you for your kindness and help. You're literally helping and maybe saving the lives of frustrated students out here
Also, Faye, please take rest and use some of these tips for yourself as well if and when you need it. We love you enough to give you as much and as many breaks as you need. ❤️
One last thing, I didn't skip da ads 😘

Thank you so much for your video and you kind words, I really needed it.
When you said to don't compare myself with the version of myself that was "fine", that hit me so hard like I always blame myself for not being okay more than before (because I am not okay for a really long time), and just realised it.
I've been struggling with myself like for the half of my life and 4 years in Uni made it much worse. I sometimes think that if I am like that right now when I have financial support of my parents, than I won't make it in like adult life, I just won't survive. And it's peaking in exam period because the rest of the semester I distract myself with escapism. So, I hope following your advices will help me to prevent me from hating myself because of not studying.
You really helped, I don't have enough words to express my gratitude for you. Thank you so much one more time, hope you'll get better, too, sooner or later!

As someone who's been struggling with mental health, I love these! I would also add that a lot of American Universities have accommodations, like extended deadlines and attendance flexibility, available to those of us who struggle with mental illness. It honestly made school much more manageable since I know that even if I cant get out of bed somedays for lecture or if i'm behind on a project, I just have to shoot them an email and keep trying :)

I love the way you made the ads a part of your video: explaining the need and understanding how they feel annoying to viewers. This is my first video I've watched from you but you definietly made a good first impression. Your voice is also calming

Also the advice of taking a walk or going out of our anxious space seems to be simple at first sight season that is a true good advice.
It prevent you from isolating urself into wonder and realwor ries hours of overthinking
Taking a walk or just do whatever makes u come back from the present for several minutes ,is even more productive
