When Mike shows those "weird" games, Pat's like: "Yeah, it's all cool and stuff but I see this kind of shit at every flea market I go to. Can we please move on?"
Ninja Gaiden III didn't have unlimited continues; it allowed you to continue 5 times. That is why it is the hardest out of the trilogy. The other 2 NGs did allow unlimited continues. Come on Mike!
For me i don't think my reflexs have gotten better per say i think its that i am more patient. I remember when i was a little kid I would just rush in and never take my time. Games like Castlevania and others were impossible for me. Now they are easy as I take my time and plan my attacks. Same with Punch out I wait for the right moment to strike.
Ya, I know my reflexes haven't gotten better (may even be worse just in the last year or so). Not sure if it is an age thing or just less sleep between work and a baby. Or maybe some form of carpal tunnel as I get pain and tingling too (getting old sucks). But agreed on patience. I have less patience for long games in general but more patience in actual game play.
+Vicarious Fan Yeah, reflexes don't get better with age; it's physiologically impossible as nerve impulses get slower with time (because myelin sheath degenerates) in all humans with the exception of those who dramatically increase the amount of exercise they get, but it'll eventually get worse again.
Double Dragon 3 is actually my favorite. People get scared by the difficulty but once mastered it has the most tactical and satisfying combat with the larger variety of moves and weapon pickups. Kind of like how SoR3 had much more variety than the first two.
@8:34 Pat did a seven part series on his game collection, broke up with his girlfriend, moved to California, & quit his job....-....Pat went beyond crazy YEARS AGO
1:20 ninja gaiden 3 actually is the only one where you dont have unlimited continues you only get 5, thats what makes 3 so hard. it actually has the easiest gameplay out of the 3 so for the american release they upped the damage enemies deal to make it a little bit harder. most people get to the final stage then run out of continues. if you dont get tons of extra lives from the earlier levels its really hard to finish the final stages because when you die you only get 3 lives and its a long way to the boss. so i call b.s. mike, maybe you were thinking of another ninja gaiden.
I like that Mike pointed out the difficulty difference between Ducktales and Darkwing Duck. I've always had the opposite problem; maybe there's something about the unorthodox way to attack in Ducktales, I've always found Darkwing to be easier.
Just like i suspected the Gradius 2 blue cart is a Turbo Game Bootleg. Turbo Game was a brazilian console made by CCE. The console had a famicom and NES slot. They released games in both formats. Gradius 2 is probably heavy because some times pirates carts pcbs are larger and have more ICs than original carts (for instance pirate version of Punch Out for the famicom has a huge PCB that takes all the space inside the cart) The Crimebuster cart is also Brazilian and is a game that was released in a weird cart shape in famicom version. Is a game made by the Bit corp of Taiwan, that had a subsidiary here in Argentina (called Bit Argentina) that lasted a little longer that the Bit corp of taiwan.
Pat's channel and Cinemassacre are my favourite channels on RUclips, so i'm very happy with these vids, Thanks Pat and Mike! Also happy that Mike gets more airtime in general, as i feel he deserves it, just as Pat and James do.
I'm amazed by how humble both you guys are to each other and it goes to show that the old generation of RUclipsrs rocks tell this very day, it was a joy to see both of you two Charing stories and various experiences over the course of your RUclips careers, very entertaining and informative videos big fan guys keep up the amazing work.
Speaking of becoming numb to things due to collecting, has anybody found that you lose a lot of nostalgic value for games that you used to feel nostalgic for? I feel like I have lost the nostalgic magic with many many games, sadly, because I have immediate access to them and actually play them quite often. I think that, besides spending money, is the worst thing about collecting Nintendo games.
To be fair, the seal of quality guarantees that it'll run on your NES, not that it's good. In the Atari VCS era, it was pretty common that games would be incompatible with certain hardware revisions or would be defective out of the box. The NES seal was to guarantee that the cartridge would work in your system or Nintendo would replace it. Since Nintendo made their own ROM chips, it was much easier for them to control the production quality of the units.
Remember that scene from Pulp Fiction where Mia asked Vincent if he listens or if he's just waiting to talk? Mike always seems like he's just waiting to talk regardless of if he's with James or Pat. It's like he is asking questions just so he can get his own answer out there. Also, he looks like ESPN's Kate Fagan.
The hardest games I have beaten are Silver Surfer (used a turbo controller) and Battletoads USA version which is significantly harder than the Japanese version. I also beat Battletoads with 2 players. My little brother and I made it all the way to Clinger Winger on the USA version, then beat the Japanese version together. That game on Clinger Winger with 2 players is insane!
+Savage Squirrel the game is brutal. no one ever talks about it like other games but my gosh it is ruthless. and without the continue code u have to be a god
+Savage Squirrel It took me 26 years to beat the original Super Mario Bros. All those years, I could never get past all those hammer bros in world 8-3. I finally beat that level and the game on April 19th, 2015.

Cheers mates, and keep on gaming!! \m/
+Daniel Lehwing That's super interesting. It's the body of an Atari "jr." console with Genesis controllers that plays NES games. Thanks for sharing that.
That's so bizarre. Pretty slick looking. Also I believe the master system had a stranglehold on the Brazilian market at the time anyways so even if this system didn't exist, you still probably wouldn't have seen many NES's
mechanoid2k Well, although the master was a good success in here, it was remarked as a "cheap console" for numerous reasons. And just the real console were rare here, the real NES cartridges were abundant, really. Infact, it was more usual to see a regular NES cart then one from Phantom (which were always the same five or six games). I am pretty sure that Phantom did not have a lot of "black cartridges" back in the day... Cheers, mate!!
In regards to being able to beat games as an adult that you couldn't as a kid, I think it also comes down to having more patience and better problem solving skills. As a kid, there's a tendency to not think things through, favour offensive tactics over defensive/elusive strategies, and get frustrated when the game gets the best of you.
Mike is correct about Darkwing Duck, however I disagree with him a little about Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. I wouldn't say that the game as a whole is super hard, but the optional stages are pretty tough. The same can be said for the final stage of the game as well as the final battle with Fat Cat. Honestly, outside of Duck Tales, pretty much all of the NES Disney titles are a lot harder than you would guess if you'd never played them.
Is darkwing duck hard? I find it very easy.. But it is my favorite NES game and I've beaten it like 200 times since I was 6 or 7 so it's probably just ingrained in my head... There is one part on the megavolt level (near the end) where I die once or twice on though.
The hardest NES games I've beat . . . well, I don't consider these to be all that difficult, but I've seen others claim that they are, so I'll say Castlevania III with all four endings, the original Castlevania, the Double Dragon trilogy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Life Force . . . and that's about all I can remember.
Very much had a soft spot when I was a kid for Ocean games. Played Robocop on Spectrum, and Darkman on Amiga, I loved them, but then again I was very young, I had no idea what was good, only what my folks bought for me.
The podcast with Mike is cool and you should do more. So are your podcasts with Ian, much different perspective. Why so many people being negative to him? I don't understand?
Hey Pat, I'm loving the fact that you have Mike on the show, but I'm a little confused. Is this the new CUPodcast crew going forward or just a one-off?
really enjoyed you guys conversing! would love to see another one of these. love me some Pat, and love me some Mike. always like hearing your thoughts on games guys. Peace.
I TOTALLY LOVE THIS NEW DIRECTION!!! I love the Punk Show, CUPodcast with Ian, Love all the Frank spinoffs, and this one with Mike is a fun new show since I love James and Mike and Bootsy. Keep on reinventing yourself with new spinoffs. Love them all. Love to see some new stuff with The Game Chasers, Stupid Eric, Angry Joe, Black Nerd, Alpha, and so on. This is good and I totally support it. P.S. So when are your books shipping out YO! lol.
Ninja Gaiden 3 is like Castlevania in that you need to master each level one by one (and actually can since you have unlimited continues). I'm surprised Castlevania isn't mentioned more often in hard NES lists; I find it much harder than games like Double Dragon and even a couple others mentioned here.
8:48 First mention of Gunsmoke I know of in Mike's presence. I loved that game, haven't heard anyone from the Cinemassacre team mention it in all these years.
I think purposely collecting weird games may be crazy, while receiving these games is a different story. You may not have gotten it on your own, but it'd be cool to check out if the opportunity arises.
super monkey adventure is probably an english translation of the worst/hardest famicom games ever (or so is often said) "Ganso Saiyuki: Super Monkey Daibouken", an adaptation of Journey to the West
Didn't the seal of quality just mean that it was approved for use for the NES by Nintendo and not necessarily a "good" game? Love the NES talk from you guys. Here's hoping James can make a podcast appearance also. Or maybe all four in one room!
+Platform Junkie The NES seal was originally intended to ensure buyers that the game wasn't absolute rubbish. This made sense as the NES was the major breakthrough following the video game crash of 1983. Once the market returned, the NES seal meant pretty much as your post states.
Actually Ninja Gaiden 3 has limited continues on the NES, unless I think you are playing the Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the SNES I think..can someone confirm?. Ninja Gaiden 3 is tough on the NES. Mike you're still awesome, you're probably thinking of Ninja Gaiden 2.
+denierlexiese Ninja Gaiden 3 on NES , the US version has LIMITED continues. Youre right. 1 and 2 have unlimited. I beat the japanese rom which has unlimited continues. The Ninja Gaiden Trilogy version of NG 3 also has unlimited continues from what I remember.
+thejackal007 Yes you are correct. It only allowed you to continue 5 times, that is why it is considered so hard. Mike was incorrect he must be thinking I or II
Ninja Gaiden 3 in Japan has unlimited password continues and normal damage. The US version has no passwords, only 5 continues and the player takes two extra points of damage. No wonder Pat couldn't finish a game that's just a giant middle finger from Japan to America.
It's funny that he values label over revisions, as the revisions are actually (slightly) different versions of the game itself. Hard as shit to collect though. :P And I am totally with him on the "making their own carts" stuff--I am very happy with my universal shell SD2SNES and my copy of Targa for SNES.
This is great and all but Mike really needs to learn not to talk over you and cut you off every 10 seconds it's irritating even for me, I can't imagine being the one talking to him
+Maxwelhse Double Dragon 3 was decent I thought. Much harder than the other two but not bad if you abuse the cyclone kick for most of the game. Still takes some practice. I use rapid fire on alot of old games, for DD3 you can use it on both buttons and just hold it down and youll do the move continually. Doing it manually I found to be inconsistent as hell for me. Wasnt bad at all like that. Bad Dudes feels sloppy as fuck. Double Dragon 3 atleast had the solid controls of the series.
Had the same thought while watching the video; I figure either Mike has his Ninja Gaiden games confused (since both one and two have infinite continues) or he played a japanese version of 3. Still, great video.
You think Darkwing Duck on NES is hard? Huh, that's weird. I never had trouble with it, to me it's on the same level as Duck Tales. Also, you should play the famicom version of Ninja Gaiden III, it's way easier than the NES one and much more fun. One more thing: Mike, I hope you plan to make some more in-depth videos about all the weird carts you have, they're really interesting!
You know, with James working on movies like Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, Cinemassacre and CUP should team up. Not sure how that would work though with subs and likes....
Pat I'm surprised you aren't into collecting PAL games. It's what i've turned to now some good games like Banana Prince and Devil World. You also said you don't have any of the Panesian games I have reproduction carts of those would you be interested in them?
Wow... Ian looks totally different when he's in focus.
Good one
I'm pretty sure Bootsy isn't human. He has to be part cyborg or something.
it would explain his robotic personality
+savethequeen78 Hes a Jedi.
+markasscop Arev savage
Oh man, much as I love Ian, I need THIS podcast in my life on a consistent basis! My two favorite youtubers combine forces!
When Mike shows those "weird" games, Pat's like: "Yeah, it's all cool and stuff but I see this kind of shit at every flea market I go to. Can we please move on?"
He's more like " wanna see my gold Nintendo world champs?" I rolled my eyes
+Josh I I'm over the whole World Championship thing. I'm glad it doesn't get brought up often
+Josh I He was talking about a gold Punch Out, and yes, I would like to see that.
Pat is like an NES encyclopedia. It's really amazing to see someone so dedicated and loving his passion so much.
lol that's why he wrote one...
You, James, and Mike should do a monthly Podcast!
Have guests like Ian, Frank, Bootsy, JonTron, Gaming Historian, Doug Walker...
That'd be awesome! :p
Still waiting for that LOL
Or just pat and Mike and I'd be fine
Pat & Mike Podcast, i like the sound of that!
But only if they have raging boners.
Ian looks so different shaved :O
Ninja Gaiden III didn't have unlimited continues; it allowed you to continue 5 times. That is why it is the hardest out of the trilogy. The other 2 NGs did allow unlimited continues. Come on Mike!
Possible he played the Japanese version, which has infinite continues
This was really fun, please do some more.
I beat beating Tyson in front of a room of college kids was like scoring the game winning touchdown..mad street cred
+CaptNRetro Yeah, except the room was full of only guys...
+Daniel King He still would have got laid for it.
+Silly Skeleton 😅😅😅😅
I really like those videos with Mike. How much more do you have? I hope we'll see more.
They seem to work well together. Maybe MF Mike could be a regular guest on the CU podcast.
You two are awesome together. Please do more videos with Mike!

I love the power duo of Mike and Pat ^_^
Double Dragon 3 is actually my favorite. People get scared by the difficulty but once mastered it has the most tactical and satisfying combat with the larger variety of moves and weapon pickups. Kind of like how SoR3 had much more variety than the first two.
Bootsy can beat MT without being hit?! I admired Bootsy's talents to beat games already. But now, I might start a Cult based on his teachings...
Love these podcasts with Mike!
I'm kinda hoping Mike shows off some of these games on James and Mike Mondays or in Mike and Bootsy segments.
Well, now that he has shown them off, he damn well better!
Whoever sent him those games must be pissed- he sounds so ungrateful!
Pat, you can still release your video of Superman for the NES, we'll watch it!!
@8:34 Pat did a seven part series on his game collection, broke up with his girlfriend, moved to California, & quit his job....-....Pat went beyond crazy YEARS AGO
+KingOf Retro The best way to keep your shit from being set on fire in a break up is to move it over 2,000 miles away. Sounds legit to me.
Great seeing the two worlds converge once again. Keep 'em coming guys!

+RedTV8888 Nope.
"Seal of Quality" just meant that they paid the license fees and got to be official releases. Every license game has the seal.
"You have enough views" lmao the salt is real
Lmaoooo that was my first thought
I also had the Joe and Mac NES port as a kid and was only aware of that one until years later.
To be fair, the seal of quality guarantees that it'll run on your NES, not that it's good. In the Atari VCS era, it was pretty common that games would be incompatible with certain hardware revisions or would be defective out of the box. I'm loving this conversation, next you should have Ian and James

I like mike as a guest
Adventure Island, Super Pitfall, Ikari Warriors. Three of the most difficult NES games.
It took my 28 years to beat Adventure Island.
+Savage Squirrel the game is brutal. no one ever talks about it like other games but my gosh it is ruthless. and without the continue code u have to be a god
+Dig Nasty I highly recommend the PC Engine version if you can find it. It's a lot of fun and not nearly as difficult. I beat it in one sitting.
I'd go with battletoads and ghosts n goblins. Those two are tuff as shit!
+Savage Squirrel It took me 26 years to beat the original Super Mario Bros. All those years, I could never get past all those hammer bros in world 8-3. I finally beat that level and the game on April 19th, 2015.
Hey Pat and Mike, the cartridge @ 12:00 is from a brazilian NES clone system called PHANTOM SYSTEM (from 1988).
The system could play all NES, unofficial carts and those black, rounded carts and it was one of the best selling systems of all times nationally.
The controller was IDENTICAL of the Genesis, but the buttons set were different.
The hardware were awesome and 100% compatible with original NES, even the lightgun was awesome.
Check this out:

I am from Brazil and only saw ONE original NES when I was young...
***** Hey thanks for the info.
mechanoid2k My pleasure. Any question, be my guest. I am brazillian and 35 yrs, so I am pretty much sure I were there... hehehehe!! ;)
Cheers!
Games like Ikari Warriors, Star Force, Arkanoid, Destination Earthstar, Battletoads seem to be the real cream of the crop of differcult games.
In regards to being able to beat games as an adult that you couldn't as a kid, I think it also comes down to having more patience and better problem solving skills. As a kid, there's a tendency to not think things through, favour offensive tactics over defensive/elusive strategies, and get frustrated when the game gets the best of you.
I love how Pat gets sad cuz they cannibilized real carts for some of those homebrews lol
I could swear you only had 5 continues in Ninja Gaiden III, unlike the first two where your continues were unlimited.
Yeah, I never had any major problems with Rescue Rangers. It was certainly not a piece of cake, but not that difficult either.
MncDssctn Yeah, it's not impossible or anything. I just wouldn't claim it to be as easy as Duck Tales.
Is darkwing duck hard? I find it very easy..
But it is my favorite NES game and I've beaten it like 200 times since I was 6 or 7 so it's probably just ingrained in my head... There is one part on the megavolt level (near the end) where I die once or twice on though.
Yeah chip n dale ain't bad either
Mindscan DNB It's not crazy level hard, but compared to the rest for the Disney NES line up, it's far and away the most difficult game on the system.
Weird thing about Joe & Mac is that in the SNES you can't charge your shot, but in the NES version you can.
Very much had a soft spot when I was a kid for Ocean games. Played Robocop on Spectrum, and Darkman on Amiga, I loved them, but then again I was very young, I had no idea what was good, only what my folks bought for me.
This a discussion of NES games, sorry - no idea why I typed the above, had a brief nostalgic moment and got lost in time.
+Wes Dance no worries:)
The podcast with Mike is cool and you should do more. So are your podcasts with Ian, much different perspective. Why so many people being negative to him? I don't understand?
Who DOESN'T know what Super Monkey Adventure/Daibouken is? :D It's one of the worst, most infamous kusoge for the Famicom.
Please do more collaborative stuff.
MIKe is funny af....he def grew on me from the old days
The black round-end carts are Brazilian. The NES came out here by the name of "Phantom System" and all the carts were like that.
Hey Pat, I'm loving the fact that you have Mike on the show, but I'm a little confused. Is this the new CUPodcast crew going forward or just a one-off?
I loved Darkwing Duck on NES.
on joe and mac, just walk behind the plant boss. You will take 1 hit, but nothing after that!
really enjoyed you guys conversing! would love to see another one of these. love me some Pat, and love me some Mike. always like hearing your thoughts on games guys. Peace.
the ghostbusters game from hal is pretty good... i also need more nes games :)
I can't remember if I beat Darkwing Duck but I definitely got very far in it. It was a fun game (as a rental)
I TOTALLY LOVE THIS NEW DIRECTION!!! I love the Punk Show, CUPodcast with Ian, Love all the Frank spinoffs, and this one with Mike is a fun new show since I love James and Mike and Bootsy. Love you both. But I hope this is a guest appearance because without Ian it's not the same.
+DissidiaSR21 That's why its so awesome when he's there
+DissidiaSR21 yeah i don't really like Ian either.
I am the same as Pat, some of the games I couldn't beat during my teen years I can easily beat them now that I am on my 30's.
1:01 They say that pros perform better in front of a crowd. The Punk is the real deal. 😎
I had Joe and Mack on NES and enjoyed it as a kid.
Was in the pawn shop with a buddy a few months ago and they had an SNES Joe and Mack... think they had it for somewhere between $40-$50.
I think purposely collecting weird games may be crazy, while receiving these games is a different story. You may not have gotten it on your own, but it'd be cool to check out if the opportunity arises.
OMG Pat and Mike are great, they really need to collaborate more often!!!
super monkey adventure is probably an english translation of the worst/hardest famicom games ever (or so is often said) "Ganso Saiyuki: Super Monkey Daibouken", an adaptation of Journey to the West
Im really loving these podcast with Mike. I would love to see James Rolfe in one to.
Mike interrupts Pat more than Pat interrupts Ian.
good to see you guys again!
Castlevania games are really hard, but then again they are really great.
You should do more of these vids with mike. I really enjoy them.
Did Pat say at 7:07 that he owns Myriad 6 in 1 complete in box?
Holy balls.
Didn't the seal of quality just mean that it was approved for use for the NES by Nintendo and not necessarily a "good" game? Love the NES talk from you guys. Here's hoping James can make a podcast appearance also. Or maybe all four in one room!

+shortbus1127 nah, Super Mario Bros 3!
+CaptainFarthouse Great Game as well
I still have my NES Joe and Mac. I didn't think it was bad at all, at least when I was 8.
This video did great things for my self esteem
It's funny that he values label over revisions, as the revisions are actually (slightly) different versions of the game itself. Hard as shit to collect though. :P
And I am totally with him on the "making their own carts" stuff--I am very happy with my universal shell SD2SNES and my copy of Targa for SNES.
This is great and all but Mike really needs to learn not to talk over you and cut you off every 10 seconds it's irritating even for me, I can't imagine being the one talking to him
I so agree that and angry joe does the same its so irritating
Double Dragon III isn't so bad, but the Bad Dudes are.
The game even warns you.
Home Alone is one of the worst NES games. I'm surprised they didn't mention it.
What's the sole focus on only the NES? What about the rarest Genesis game or SNES game?
this needs to be a regular thing...bring in bootsy too
+Christopher Baldwin Bootsy seems like such a cool guy.
He does. We know he kicks ass at gaming, but I'd like to hear him in discussions like this
You can't continue in Ninja Gaiden III, with the US version at least.
I saw the 3 Panesian games in Houston for like $150 each.
Ikari Warriors, 3 games coming out in November 2018
Pat I'm surprised you aren't into collecting PAL games. It's what i've turned to now some good games like Banana Prince and Devil World. You also said you don't have any of the Panesian games I have reproduction carts of those would you be interested in them?
Pat, the CRT TV I see behind you always, is that a 20" Daewoo?
mike matel is really cool and he is a great actor, when he dose the angry nerd its like looking at a totally different guy.
Can't tell if sarcastic or not?
It sounds like you are saying Mike look different when he is playing the Angry Nerd character. Is this correct? Or ya just ranking' us?
Another great video, hope to see more of these colabs :)
is there anyway to watch the full podcast in video form?
Least favorite NES game? X Men. It's a war crime.
How can an 8 bit cartridge hold 150 games? Must have some expanding chip in it or something. Maybe that is why it's so heavy
Told you guys, pat is always sitting there lol
