It's why Ahsoka took Maul so seriously in the final arc she saw him as a real threat while the other Jedi were worried about a fake war..

Ahsoka was foolish and could never grasp for anything more than joust fighting, she became a tool of the Jedi. When she found out it was already too late because her fate was sealed. She could never see beyond, kinda like Obi-Wan

What sucked so much about the prequels was that Maul, Jinn, Dooku and Windu didn’t get nearly as much screen time as needed.

Absolutely! Maul was taught to be a Sith Warrior while Sidious only ever cared about his power and the Sith legacy was just an afterthought. Maul embodied what a Sith truly was while Sidious only twisted things to fit his own narratives.

2:46 With the Hutts under his command, Maul had already taken over an entire third of the known galaxy! If Maul and the Shadow Collective hadn't gone into hiding and the Republic & the Sith hadn't both attacked him at the same time Maul would've lasted with his syndicate, probably until the Sequels, speaking of which, Maul would've been the main antagonist of those sequels if Disney fully listened to what people wanted.

I think that Bane would have been fond of Maul because Maul always put the Sith before himself. Bane thought the exact same way. Both of them were obsessively dedicated and loyal to the ways of the Sith, and would do anything to gain vengeance or power for the sake of their Order.

Sidious was indeed powerful, especially in Legends but I agree that he just didn't have the Sith grindset that Maul does. Maul if nothing else embodied the passion that supposed to embody the Sith whearas Sidious was more of a self centered tyrant who just happened to be a Sith. Not saying his control over the dark side wasn't insane but he just didn't have the same hunger that you can see with Maul. I'm glad you made this video because I never really thought of how Maul's near unhinged obsessions actually made him the truer Sith of the two.

From an EU Legends perspective, I also have to say Maul was the last truly great Sith Lord. Krayt’s legacy was a failure, Sidious fell in a hole 20 years after getting galactic dominance in the most avoidable way possible, and Dooku was merely there for housekeeping. Meanwhile Maul is still alive and going by Legacy if we count that Darth Maul Legacy game that had Lucas G-canon involvement.
In Legends, Darth Maul was one of the most powerful and highly trained Sith Lords of all time. He took Sidious’ training and evolved it.

While I do love Sidious, I believe that Maul was the most dedicated to the Sith out of all of the Sith Lords we've seen in the Skywalker Saga. Which makes sense, because Maul was straight up born and raised a Sith. His every thought and action was about unending hate, thirst for revenge, and conquest. But I think Maul went about ruling his empire better than Sidious would have. Ol' Sheev was a brilliant strategist, but he essentially relied on Vader and Thrawn to do his dirty work once the Jedi were all but wiped out. Maul had his goons too, but he was always watching them like a hawk, and his influence was so powerful that even Jabba, the Black Sun and the Pykes were terrified of him. If Maul ended up killing Sidious, taking Vader as his apprentice, conquered the Empire, along with having all of the crime families under his command? He would have been unstoppable.

I believe that if Maul would’ve finished off Obi Wan in Episode I then Vader very likely could’ve been Darth Maul’s apprentice since Darth Maul would’ve definitely found a way to end Darth Sidious by the end of the Clone Wars since he wouldn’t have lost half of his body mass and thus would’ve became far more powerful than he did in the canon timeline

come on. Even Maul said himself that he could not take ok Vader himself.
      Let alone Sidious.
Both are way beyond Mauls capacitys in the Force..
Vader was just as powerful as Sidious while loosing like 60% of his potential after the Obiwan Fight while Maul just lost 50% of his own body..
And Sidious mopped the Floor with Maul and Savage while laughing his ass off.
Maul was after he escaped Sidious the final time never an Priority of Sidious.
He just needed to take it into his own hands to avoid Maul getting captured and blowing Sidiouses plan and identity Cover.

I agree with everything you said. But i would also like to add that Palpatine is the natural end point of what the rule of two leads to. If not Palpatine, then later someone else would rise to incredible levels of power due to immense greed and that would fuel that greed even further, to the point when the individual would hoard every Sith teaching for themself, not caring for anything aside from their own gain. Maul is a great example of what Bane must've envisioned a proper Sith Lord must be like, but Palpatine is the inevitability of the Sith order and its eventual ultimate downfall.

  • @Ulick3
    @Ulick3 Месяц назад +5

Very interesting take. I think in terms of upholding the sith order, Maul was the best of his era and the best successor to the Banite line. Regardless of his dedication though, he simply wasn’t as strong as Dooku, Vader, or Sidious so he would never be able to succeed in becoming the foremost sith master. And I think it’s interesting that Maul was the one with the most dedication to the Sith despite only being raised originally as just another throw away assassin.

First things first, power levels are not BS. Second thing everything you said is right. I was going to protest but I legitimately gave you the space and time and I heard you out and you’re 100% correct aside from the power that was common. Darth Maul was the last pure sit. When you think about it Papa team was more of a leech who just used the Darkside to his benefit so he could stay in the seat of power.
I will say this it is unfortunate that Darth Maul was pigeonholed into a position of power he could never surpass. He got so much stronger but it was plateau. That’s very unfortunate. An amazing character whom I thought they should’ve left to die in the Phantom Menace because he had such an amazing reveal and we knew literally little to nothing about him. But the clone wars really did him justice we know he couldn’t of done anything major but at the same time even if he had convinced Asoka the only way they could’ve actually taken Palpatine out was for the Jedi to be in unison against him not spread out. But it doesn’t change anything that you said in regards to you being right and who the true Sith Lord the most pure and everything that you said it was to be true.
Very well said I completely understand and definitely agree. Just subscribed, notifications fell on!!!

Sidious wanted to be the immortal sith ruler like his master before him. That is not the sith way. Their original teachings thought that even as the master collects and hordes power, they should then share that power with their apprentice to further their power in the darkside and make sure if the master fails thaycthe apprentice is there. A sith lord is supposed to foster the darkness. Sidious never dis that. He never taught a single of his apprentices anything other than pain. Dooku knew force lighting before hand, Anakin used force choke as a jedi, maul, even though he was powerful in the force, and was never taught anything other than fighting. Sidiois handicapped his own followers and only shared things he knew both his apprentices and the inquisitors could not gain anything from.

    The rule of two...
Is the dumbest thing ever. The abilities and fighting techniques would be lost to time in just a few masters and apprentices.....
Imagine you know everything about the dark side, but you don't want to die, so you only train your apprentice in about 70% of your dark side knowledge. You finally get too old or sick and he kills you.
Your apprentice is a 70% dark sider. He takes an apprentice. He only teaches that apprentice to 70% of what the master knows.....
Do this 2 or 3 more times, and you have no powers or skill....and no sith left.

Youre judging a "true sith," entirely by Rule of Two standards. I would argue that as a false equivalnce when strictly conversing about the sith from the movies compared to the sith that came before, and the sith that followed them for SEVERAL reasons.
    1. Darth Maul within the Plaguies novel that you referenced was strictly trained as an Assassin under Palpatine. While he may have been noted as a true successor before Anakin came along from other sources, he was not a complete Sith to the same extent Vader and Dooku were incomplete. In this case it would be his training. Sith Assassins served a lesser role, and were usually treated as disposable. This is also why Plaguies let Palpatine get away with training Maul, knowing full well he was dubbed "Darth." He found Maul lacking.
    2. Palpatine himself on multiple occasions was "blessed," by the darkside. In the Plaguies novel, even though he killed his master through dishonorable means, the power no longer being shared between the two, and infusing itself into Palpatine, was described as almost an event that was meant to be from Sidious's perspective. Furthermore from the Dark Empire story that came out almost 15 years before this novel, the means Palpatine could ressurect was because the Sith spirits enpowered him enough so he could keep willing himself out of Hell. The Sith spirits prior to this in ANH according to the book of the Sith, tried to kill Palpatine for trying to aquire their knowledge. At this point in the story he would have to be considered a worthy Sith for them to give him everything they had. An "overpowered politician," is like me describing, Hitler as a "small angry man," the destruction and chaos they rought on their worlds was and is still unfathomable, and these descriptors are too limiting as a means to characterize them.
    3. The only reason that Palpatine hoarded knowledge for himself, was because in a way he was correct. He honored the rule of two in a ceremonial sense up to Vader, however it was obsolete. The entire purpose of the rule of two was to subvert the Jedi from the shadows. They achieved that Goal, and wiped them off the face of thr Galaxy, and ruled in a legitimate capscity for over 20 years.
Maul embodying key aspects of a "Rule of two sith," doesnt diminish Vader, Tyranus, or Palpatine at all for the mark they left on the title of "Sith Lord." They all do to a certain extent, and represent Sith ideals in their own right.

  • @damien2729
    @damien2729 Месяц назад +1

Palpatine also didn't teach Maul to his full potential, Because he was the son of Mother Talzin, his potential of that dark magic from another Galaxy, and being fully taught from palpatine would have surely allowed Maul to overthrow Sideous. To learn everything from Lord Sideous and be super powerful with dark magic, The Jedi would have been outmatched and outclassed in every way. In palpatines hubris and lust for power, he in fact brought the end of the Sith, at least for the time being.

Brilliant video except you contradict yourself. Maul was not a Sith Lord. He was a Sith warrior. You said so yourself but then go on about how great a Sith lord he was. He never was unless you want to consider his rule of either a criminal syndicate or Mandalore. Sydious, like him or dislike him, was a Sith Lord. He did conquer the Republic and held it for twenty years and wiped out the Jedi Order. Very few Sith Lords managed the first, and only one other did the second one. PS: He took out three Jedi Masters including Kit Fisto in less time than it took me to write this.

I feel you forget the part of the Rule of 2 where both are considered Darth. Which is a title for a sith lord only. The only difference in "roles" is master and apprentice. But both are still considered Darths, hence the names given to them by sidious. Also sidious did NONE of those things himself. He was merely the sith in power at the time the trap was sprung.
