- Macbeth Act 1 Scene 2 explanation and annotations.
---
I'm Miss B, an experienced English teacher and examiner. In this series, I will be explaining Macbeth scene-by-scene, as well as providing examiner advice as I go.
---
Like last time, I will be referring to English Literature Assessment Objectives, so in case you're unsure what they are, here is a little breakdown:
📖AO1 - Answering the question, knowing the text (plot, characters, settings, themes etc...) and knowing quotes.
✏️AO2 - Identifying methods (techniques), explaining and analysing quotes, exploring layers of meaning and different interpretations, key-word analysis and impact on the audience.
📚AO3 - Making links to relevant context (historical/social) or writer's ideas/purpose. Whole-text context (being able to place a scene within the whole play.)

8:34 hiii I had a question over here when you mention Macdonald betraying Duncan but we haven't been given much information about him and we only see other people's perspectives of him. On the other side, we are told that Macdonald was the previous thane of Cawdor. How is that possible then because Duncan gives the order to kill the living thane of Cawdor who betrayed Duncan and Macdonald was killed by Macbeth on the battlefield?
Hi good question, a lot of students get Macdonald and the Thane of Cawdor confused but they are actually two separate characters (one is killed by Macbeth and one is executed by Duncan) which means that Duncan is actually betrayed by THREE different characters (Macdonald, Cawdor and Macbeth!) Unlucky for Duncan 😔 hope this helps! ☺️
@@englishilluminated6606 hii but then again we havent been given information if MacDonald had betrayed Duncan , as a matter of fact we haven't even seen MacDonald and have only heard of other people speaking of him, is it a background context which has been untold by Shakespeare then?
Macdonald is the person that Macbeth murders on the battlefield. The Thane of Cawdor is a separate unnamed person.
I find your videos SOOO HELPFUL and thank you so much for creating such amazing and detailed resources. Do you know where i can find the document of the annotations for all the scenes and acts? Thanks again!
Ma'am. Is the name Macdonwald or MacDonald?
Can Valiant mean heroic
Yes ☺️
