      I have visited Romania several times. BEAUTIFUL country. I'm surprised at how many people go to Bran. Tourist trap. Peles is much more of how I picture old Romania. The train is the way to go. I drove from Buch to Brasov in a rental and missed the countryside I saw when I took the train. Romanian people are warm and kind - just use common sense. If you like wines try the Ro Cabernet, better than almost all I have tried. Iubesc România

    After 51 years of much travel I finally made it to Romania! Well worth the wait! i loved absolutely everything. Brasov is so beautiful, as is Sibiu and Sigishoara. The Art Deco museum in lovely Targu Mures must be seen to be believed. And the grand buildings of Bucharest are awesome. I only wish locals had more respect for them and stopped the graffiti which takes away from the great beauty and legacies of these awesome structures. My grandmother came from Romania, so visiting had great meaning for me. I cannot wait to visit again!

      @@rachelandnick How you can compare the history of a town with history of a region? Bucharest is a town and Transylvania is a region. Historical Romania have more region Ardeal (Transilvania), Muntenia, Basarabia, Moldova, Oltenia, Dobrogea, Banat, Crişana, Bucovina, Maramureş and only in the last 100 years have we managed to reunify them. We still have territories confiscated by the great powers, empires because they wanted us from all over, :) , history is not always a simple thing !

      They are both Romanian by any means is through that they come together as one country only 100 years ago but for more then 2000 yeas the same people lived here sharing the same language traditions and culture. Gabriel Napa Well, we somehow remained the same for “2000 years” if you care to ignore the massive migratory populations and invaders like the pechenegs, goths, ostrogoths, vizigoths, cumans, huns, bulgars, celts, mongols and so many others from so many periods... The roots of our thracian ancestry is there, but it has been heavily influenced by all migratory populations, and you can see that in our dna. I do not agree with the austro-hungarian 19th century anti-romanian rhetoric that’s still being used to this day, but that doesn’t mean that we also have to create our own fantasies. Basically, what you do is cheap patriotism.

    You had a 'covrig hot dog' and looks like 'baton cu sunca'...I get mine too when I through Gara De Nord the station you were at..you are right about the CFR trains, some dont look the best outside but always comfortable inside...Brasov is nice, especially that square in Winter when big tree is up and people skating and dragging kids along in sleds. I am glad Romania is underrated as it is a hidden beauty that I wish never gets spoilt by mass tourism...I suppose I say that selfishly as I fell in love with the place and live there now. Not sure if you got to drive up through the Fagaras Mountains on the Transfagarasan highway and then go back over via the Transalpina..magic country, stunning...yes its a beautiful country so rich in history and awesome people.

      rudytheskull Hunedoara Castle is interesting by itself but the city is... how should I put it... a depressive abandoned wild west town in an east european style. Unless the town is in your way, there’s no other reason to go there just for the castle.

    • @AkeN996
      @AkeN996 5 лет назад

      Dave Kent Yeah, Bran as a town is pretty much a tourist trap with all kind of vampire-inspired crap to throw your money at while the infrastructure is hurrendous, with broken and poorly maintained streets, sidewalks and buildings all over the place. There is zero thought put into actually mantaining the town to be more appealing and friendly for the pedestrians, especially considering the high numbers of local and foreign tourists going to the castle.

    Bucharest have a higher density than Brasov, more services per square meter and more activities, but it don't have that mountainous atmosphere...
    After 1995 Brasov suffered unemployment because of the poor management of the local industry, industry that was 75% destroyed in the next years.
    After 2005 and 2013 it recovered a bit, but there is still a lot of work to do in order to get this city at its real potential.
    All in all, that's why you don't see the activity you would have thought initially in this city.

    Nice trip. I would like to tell you that Romanian people are very pessimist, sadly, they don't use to appreciate they own country, but I'm happy that many foreigners do. I'm from Timisoara but I think Transilvania is the most ''WOW'' of Romania, but of course, everywhere it is something nice to visit.
