    Lost Tears Tavern had the best songs in the game. Genuinely moving lyrics and emotional arrangements.

    This was absolutely one of my favorite RPG games on the Atari 1200XL. Awesome game.

    It was a kidnapping where every player thought "YES! Take me with you!" ;D

    That is an intro far ahead of it's time, it's like an early attempt at being "cinematic" in a video game. Shame the series was never finished, they seemed like they had a grand vision for it given the nature of the intro.

      Yep, I remember trying to leave the City and it asked you to insert the expansion disk. I was like, "What?!"
      Years later, they released "The Dungeon" which was also pretty great. I don't know where I'm going to find the time but I'm thinking about booting up both Alternate Reality and and its sequel on an emulator some time.
      A while back I wrote an auto-mapping feature for Dungeon Master, the old classic, and it helped me enjoy replaying it. Maybe I'll do something like that for Alternate Reality. Although, I don't have the source code so I'll have to use a screen-scraper (pull pixels from the screen and analyze them to convert to 2D mapping data). Also, I don't know if anything can give me coordinates in the game, I forget.

      You could use a program called audacity to modify the song in many different ways.

    it's like you were running PAL mode in emulator when you've recorded this video - NTSC version has faster/normal sound:) anyway, thanks for video!:)

    Just been comparing C64/Amiga and A800/ST(E) versions. This is bar far the best version of the game. C64 Forever won't play sound for some reason. Amiga Forever sounds better but not right (out of sequence with effects). ST(E) is better than Amiga version but still not quite right.
    Glad I bought this for my Atari 800 XL when it was in the charts.. The Dungeon was released but never managed to get hold of that due to import prices to UK from USA. :(
    Can play on emulator now but feel guilty with not buying it years ago..

      Rescue on Fractalus is also better/faster on A800 than C64 too - As are all the other Lucasfilm games for 8 bit... Eidolon and Koronis Rift.. Atari 8bit was highly underrated!! Schreckentein 2 player anyone??

      this is what we had with PAL systems, running at 50Hz. The original 60Hz version sounds too fast for us...

    • @yourdogsnews
      @yourdogsnews 6 лет назад +2

      boubix really, thats horrible. Parts of this just don't work for me at this speed. I don't know how people can stand it, but I guess if thats the way you always have known it..........

      There were even cases where music on PAL versions was faster, e.g. Ghostbusters. They simply used a lower divider to get the playback speed and this caused this then. For us PAL folk that is “correct” and the NTSC versions sound “off” to us.

      Sorry for writing a second answer to this, I now had the chance to listen to the “original” 60Hz version and I also think the PAL version shown here sounds “right”. The 60Hz version is too fast and too cheerful for the game.
