So in the new film he'd have to be around 74 or 75. You think they would have learned from the timeline fiasco in TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D, and just have this new film be a period piece set in the late 1970s.

To be fair you're not much of a threatening horror movie serial killer if you can just die and have it all ended. Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers. Freddy Kruger is hard asf to kill. They aren't so threatening in their movies if they can just get easily killed. Which the protagonists always try to do and obviously fail. I think it's fair to give leatherface a killer buff.

@@phousefilms this is a follow up for the original one. So the last time leatherface saw Sally she escaped from their house and jumped in the back of that pick up truck. My understanding of Texas Chainsaw 2, was that they had to move to an unused amusement park, or whatever that was, with Choptop in tow, because of the fact that Sally got away, and could have potentially led authorities back there. So they had to go into hiding.

This is basically just the "Halloween Kills" of the TCM franchise, A bunch of bloody kills with a shit story, dumb shit characters, a wasted legacy character, a main character death at the end for shock value.

The main problems with this film are it did what 3D did and tried to make Leatherface a hero by having asshole protagonists, missed the point that the whole Sawyer family is the threat not just Leatherface so killing off the others and trying to make him a solo killer doesn't work. Older Michael in the new Halloweens works because he still has his superhuman strength and durability but Leatherface is a normal human man who even when he was younger was a scared manchild so this film portraying him as a cunning trap setter makes no sense. A near 70 year old guy running after people with a heavy chainsaw is hard to buy too. This film's Sally rips off Halloween 2018 Laurie.
One thing I’ll give the 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D….even though they kept Leatherface as the sole killer again, they did place an emphasis on “family” through the main protagonist. She’s becoming a member of the Sawyer family throughout the movie. In a weird way, that’s more consistent than most of the TCM films.
The biggest waste of the final girl character from the original movie. Honestly didn’t even know who she was until they showed the picture. Then to have her do absolutely nothing and then die. She never should of been in the movie to begin with. It started off strong, then went down hill fast. Leatherface is one of those movie killers that should be a one and done movie, not multiple sequels. Unless they do it correctly.

It was a fun movie. I specially liked the parts where everybody dies. Gory, fun, irreverent for modern times, tacky, well yes, it's Netflix. Glad they still had the balls to behead that annoying character and the bus full of influencers (loved it).
Haha yes I do have to agree the bus scene was pretty entertaining. So far out of the texas chainsaw movies we saw at least this one actually delivered with a massacre 🤣

EDIT: I believe it was a well thought out criticism of todays society, where no one (not no one but most people raised by social media) knows how to defend themselves, they just know how to point a cellphone, record and share, thinking that will stop a guy with a chainsaw coming at them. The gentrification critique was also present. So I think there was a bit of depth to the script (a bit). But in the end, personally, I came for the gore and fun.

It's not the original house. The original was actually purchased by a fan who moved it, renovated it and actually runs a restaurant out of it. People can go have lunch or dinner and walk around the house to see where certain scenes were filmed.

They weren’t sure why he was there, which I get because he was fairly inconsequential, but I THINK what they were trying to do was have him be the counterpoint to these influencers. Show the differences in types and he is gruff but he does care when he unloads the gun because she hates them, he goes back in the house to help… he’s not a bad person like the influencers seem to think. But the movie doesn’t make any of the points very well

I liked it as a "entertaining bad movie." Will watch a sequel for sure. You also missed the second post credits scene where Leatherface finds Freddy Krueger at the old house, and Kruger goes, "I'm here to talk to you about the Tormetors Initiative."

Absolutely hated this movie. Bringing back Sally Hardesty, one of the most classic final girls of all time made no sense. Will never understand how she was completely wasted. Also didn't like how they made Leatherface a hybrid between Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. He's meant to be a normal, mortal person.
I've watched other reviewers talking about movies made in the modern day. An example of what I mean would be Chris Stuckmann's review for Countdown. Hollywood seems to like it more when a script has a social message in it. That's how a movie is more likely to be made these days. This movie specifically is bogged down by having like 20 different messages and social statements they're trying to make but commits to none of them. Even the original Texas Chainsaw movie had a message, but it was way more subtle about it. This movie has the grace of a cinderblock in telling its messages. Even still, I somehow liked this more than Morbius. Maybe it's because this was at least entertaining 🤷 either way it's bottom 2 of this year and I doubt that's going to change.
Yes! I definitely agree with you. I'm all for putting that stuff in horror movies but this one just didn't know how to do it. Like you said they were trying to put way too many messages in and not knowing where to go with them. It didn't add to the story whatsoever

I feel the same about this movie as I do Black Christmas 2019 (except that one seemed a bit more put together) where the message came first and then the movie. The storyline of this is really all over the place. I felt that if they'd stuck to a storyline of gentrification that might have fared better. What we got instead was...a mess lol
I love this movie, but I HATE THE END. Hardesty's return is completely unnecessary. 30.36 Have got the same reaction of the women in blue. For me, the movie finish after Melody and Lilah kill "leatherf.ck". Melody is a lovely character. Although cliché, her character is endearing. At the beginning, she is a condescending little women, but as soon as the grandmother feels unwell, Melody is seized with remorse. She does not pretend to be sensitive to the sad fate of the old lady, she really is. Which makes her a kind person. A bastard wouldn't have given a damn, like Dante who doesn't seem to feel any remorse for having kicked a grandmother out of her house. I love good people as I hate bad people.
Agenda? This character represents people who have survived school shootings and depicts the trauma that can come from it but you make it seem like a bad thing that those people are represented at all. calling this an "agenda" when it isn't is just completely wrong and rather disrespectful to people who have been threw that type of thing before. 7:15
The version produced by Michael Bay from 2003, where Jessica Biel was, is better. And another that I recommend from that time: The Hitcher, also of that dark style, a road movie, about a psychopath (Portrayed by Sean Bean), who kidnaps a couple of young people who were traveling along the road in their car and makes them go through a lot of hardship during their kidnapping.
The one with Jessica Biel was actually the very first horror movie we did together and we did enjoy it even if Jessica Biels character was a little frustrating haha It's on RUclips if you look it up!

This movie was there attempt to make Leatherface the solo series star and turn the franchise into a slasher film series only focused on him because he is the most popular character of the series. This was also done in Chainsaw 3D and 2017 Leatherface Prequel movie while in the rest of the franchise Leatherface is a tool for the family. This film kind of works but at the same time kind of doesn't it works as a random slasher flick but it has nothing in common tone wise with the original Texas Chainsaw that it's a direct sequel to.

The reason why “dumb horror movie logic” usually works is because plenty of people make dumb decisions in real life and you can always sort of see the reasoning behind it at the end of the day. “Weird logic” doesn’t work - and this movie is full of it. Why does the girl go to the hospital with strangers? Why does Leatherface go from the bus massacre to sitting in his room despite two of the girls getting away? Why doesn’t Sally shoot even though she starts shooting 10 seconds later? All of these decisions are strange and illogical which is worse than typical dumb horror logic lol. You can tell they tried editing this thing to make some kind of sense given the footage they had.
So you watched the trailer and thought it took place the same day as the one from the 70's yet didn't notice the zoomers driving a Tesla or an entire bus pull of people holding iPhones? 😂 wow
The reason why leather face wasn't an orphanage is because this movie took place as a sequel to the 1st 4 movies of the franchise. While Leatherface took the names of: Leatherface Bubba Junior Leather If you want more information check out Dead Meat. He did a kill count on this movie and also said it was awful. TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D was another disappointment, but mostly in the sense it had so much potential to be better. I actually think they could made a decent sequel or two, but that seems unlikely to happen now.
I actually liked this one lol. There were a couple things I didn’t like, especially the older sister Mel, but overall I enjoyed it 🤷🏻♂️ I mean, it’s a TCM movie so I wasn’t expecting a complex story/plot. It’s also MILES better than some of the other sequels lol. Also, the scene where that’s cops arm is broken & he’s stabbed in the nexk with his broken bones is one of the best death scenes I’ve ever scene. And there was a plot, it just wasn’t a great one. Because of the school shooting, the sister and friends wanted to buy a town to be away from all the bad things in the world. Ritcher was the contractor, thats why he was there. He didn’t live in that town or know about Leatherface. He was there essentially to take the keys and keep everyone from leaving up until his death. Like I said, not a great plot but it was there. It’s just a TCM movie & the main point of them is to be grotesque & gory, so I think the movie delivered on that lol. Technically none of the TCM movies have a real story. Just random people who are on a road trip & run into Leatherface. It’s not an A24 movie. I do wish they would’ve either left Sally out or given her more to do. Still loved the reaction!

@@tashatipton2141, the new Sally is played by Olwen Fouéré, from films like MANDY and THE NORTHMAN. I think it's more the script's fault, but I don't care for her in the role. Leatherface's guardian is played by veteran actress Alice Krige. Not sure if anyone bothered to recognize her, but she was in films like SLEEPWALKERS, STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT, SILENT HILL, the miniseries CHILDREN OF DUNE, and even had a cameo in THOR: THE DARK WORLD. She's wasted in this movie. I wonder had the script been better, and Sally been given more to do, Alice might have been able to play her.

As much as I loved watching this reaction, it was also incredibly painful. There was no real, good point of making this film. It’s 100% a reaction to the new Halloween franchise. The lady who was supposedly a Ranger, (sorry doll, but I’ve seen most of that Chuck Norris show and you’re no ranger. LOL.) I mean, she’s not even the same actress because the actress from the first film is dead. This actress, I didn’t really even like her in Mandy and I just assumed it was because I wasn’t supposed to, but am I supposed to like her in this film? I was very disappointed in this film and none of the characters were likeable and i HATED how they portrayed Sally and the writing for her character and what a true shameful dishonor to the late Marilyn Burns who so brilliantly played Sally in the original. The ridiculousness that the characters in this film portrayed was so beyond stupid and just left me shaking my head especially the black girl on the bus who not once informed anyone not even the driver what was going on outside even after he was decapitated and his head was thrown back into the bus and as Leatherface walked onto the bus she just slowly backs away into the crowd of people and mumbles quietly " Run " and then the only time any of the windows open on the bus is for her death scene but you have over a dozen others scrambling to get the windows open but none of them will open...Seriously!!!! I also found it moronic how you have 30+ young adults live srreaming some large ass man holding a chainsaw and wearing human flesh on his face on their Instagram and other social media accounts who then begins slaughtering them and not one person who watching the live stream calls the police and has them go to that town...I mean really?! This is just another waste of what could have a really good repraise of the franchise but just like Halloween Kills and Scream it turned out to be a pile of 💩💩💩💩💩💩

I have been a long time horror fan, and It wouldn't bother me at all if they made Leatherface immortal. I didn't like the left agenda they was trying to push however! But they made up for it when all those snowflakes got sawed up on the bus lol... You have to admit it had some good special effects in it! And Leatherface learned some new tricks with that chainsaw. All in all it wasn't that bad and I'm hoping for another one!

This is seriously the worst one of the entire series, including the reboot and its prequel. This one helped me to enjoy Texas Chainsaw 3D at this rate.

I'm not a big fan of the texas chainsaw massacre franchise but even I could tell this movie sucks. I'd rather watch texas chainsaw massacre 2 at least that one had a fun crazy performance from bill mosely as chop top.
I actually didn't mind this film, it was better than someother leather face movies. I think people online just go with what most people say and don't have there actual own opinions. It was gory, the visuals was really good.
Seriously this is one of the better direct sequels out of 5. Not as good as 2, I dare say possibly better than 3. But not close to the worst one at all. I'm watching reactions to try and figure out why other people didn't like this one, in context and comparison within genre it's pretty good.

One thing I’ll give the 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D….even though they kept Leatherface as the sole killer again, they did place an emphasis on “family” through the main protagonist. She’s becoming a member of the Sawyer family throughout the movie. In a weird way, that’s more consistent than most of the TCM films.

The biggest waste of the final girl character from the original movie. Honestly didn’t even know who she was until they showed the picture. Then to have her do absolutely nothing and then die. She never should of been in the movie to begin with. It started off strong, then went down hill fast. Leatherface is one of those movie killers that should be a one and done movie, not multiple sequels. Unless they do it correctly.

This made me want to watch that godawful TCM The Next Generation. At least that has some entertainment value with Matthew McConaughey hamming it up big time.
Leatherface without his family does not work, at that point your watching a jason Voorhees knockoff with a chainsaw, perfect example being in this film he has superhuman strength and durability because "reasons".
Sally wasn't even the original actress. She died.
It was a fun movie. I specially liked the parts where everybody dies. Gory, fun, irreverent for modern times, tacky, well yes, it's Netflix. Glad they still had the balls to behead that annoying character and the bus full of influencers (loved it).

EDIT: I believe it was a well thought out criticism of todays society, where no one (not no one but most people raised by social media) knows how to defend themselves, they just know how to point a cellphone, record and share, thinking that will stop a guy with a chainsaw coming at them. The gentrification critique was also present. So I think there was a bit of depth to the script (a bit). But in the end, personally, I came for the gore and fun.

It's not the original house. The original was actually purchased by a fan who moved it, renovated it and actually runs a restaurant out of it. People can go have lunch or dinner and walk around the house to see where certain scenes were filmed.

They weren’t sure why he was there, which I get because he was fairly inconsequential, but I THINK what they were trying to do was have him be the counterpoint to these influencers. Show the differences in types and he is gruff but he does care when he unloads the gun because she hates them, he goes back in the house to help… he’s not a bad person like the influencers seem to think. But the movie doesn’t make any of the points very well

Now you guys need to watch the movie Ed Gein, which is a true story about the man who inspired both Norman Bates and Lestherface.
Absolutely hated this movie. Bringing back Sally Hardesty, one of the most classic final girls of all time made no sense. Will never understand how she was completely wasted. Also didn't like how they made Leatherface a hybrid between Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. He's meant to be a normal, mortal person.
I've watched other reviewers talking about movies made in the modern day. An example of what I mean would be Chris Stuckmann's review for Countdown. Hollywood seems to like it more when a script has a social message in it. That's how a movie is more likely to be made these days.
This movie specifically is bogged down by having like 20 different messages and social statements they're trying to make but commits to none of them. Even the original Texas Chainsaw movie had a message, but it was way more subtle about it. This movie has the grace of a cinderblock in telling its messages.
Even still, I somehow liked this more than Morbius. Maybe it's because this was at least entertaining 🤷 either way it's bottom 2 of this year and I doubt that's going to change.
Yes! I definitely agree with you. I'm all for putting that stuff in horror movies but this one just didn't know how to do it. Like you said they were trying to put way too many messages in and not knowing where to go with them. It didn't add to the story whatsoever

I feel the same about this movie as I do Black Christmas 2019 (except that one seemed a bit more put together) where the message came first and then the movie. The storyline of this is really all over the place. I felt that if they'd stuck to a storyline of gentrification that might have fared better. What we got instead was...a mess lol

Melody is a lovely character. Although cliché, her character is endearing.
At the beginning, she is a condescending little women, but as soon as the grandmother feels unwell, Melody is seized with remorse.
She does not pretend to be sensitive to the sad fate of the old lady, she really is.
Which makes her a kind person.

The version produced by Michael Bay from 2003, where Jessica Biel was, is better. And another that I recommend from that time: The Hitcher, also of that dark style, a road movie, about a psychopath (Portrayed by Sean Bean), who kidnaps a couple of young people who were traveling along the road in their car and makes them go through a lot of hardship during their kidnapping.
The one with Jessica Biel was actually the very first horror movie we did together and we did enjoy it even if Jessica Biels character was a little frustrating haha It's on RUclips if you look it up!
The HITCHER remake with Sean Bean is decent, but the 1986 original with Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas Howell is the way to go.

This movie was there attempt to make Leatherface the solo series star and turn the franchise into a slasher film series only focused on him because he is the most popular character of the series. This was also done in Chainsaw 3D and 2017 Leatherface Prequel movie while in the rest of the franchise Leatherface is a tool for the family. This film kind of works but at the same time kind of doesn't it works as a random slasher flick but it has nothing in common tone wise with the original Texas Chainsaw that it's a direct sequel to.

The reason why “dumb horror movie logic” usually works is because plenty of people make dumb decisions in real life and you can always sort of see the reasoning behind it at the end of the day. “Weird logic” doesn’t work - and this movie is full of it. Why does the girl go to the hospital with strangers? Why does Leatherface go from the bus massacre to sitting in his room despite two of the girls getting away? Why doesn’t Sally shoot even though she starts shooting 10 seconds later? All of these decisions are strange and illogical which is worse than typical dumb horror logic lol. You can tell they tried editing this thing to make some kind of sense given the footage they had.

TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D was another disappointment, but mostly in the sense it had so much potential to be better. I actually think they could made a decent sequel or two, but that seems unlikely to happen now.

I actually liked this one lol. There were a couple things I didn’t like, especially the older sister Mel, but overall I enjoyed it 🤷🏻♂️ I mean, it’s a TCM movie so I wasn’t expecting a complex story/plot. It’s also MILES better than some of the other sequels lol. Also, the scene where that’s cops arm is broken & he’s stabbed in the nexk with his broken bones is one of the best death scenes I’ve ever scene. And there was a plot, it just wasn’t a great one. Because of the school shooting, the sister and friends wanted to buy a town to be away from all the bad things in the world. Ritcher was the contractor, thats why he was there. He didn’t live in that town or know about Leatherface. He was there essentially to take the keys and keep everyone from leaving up until his death. Like I said, not a great plot but it was there. It’s just a TCM movie & the main point of them is to be grotesque & gory, so I think the movie delivered on that lol. Technically none of the TCM movies have a real story. Just random people who are on a road trip & run into Leatherface. It’s not an A24 movie. I do wish they would’ve either left Sally out or given her more to do. Still loved the reaction!

@@tashatipton2141, the new Sally is played by Olwen Fouéré, from films like MANDY and THE NORTHMAN. I think it's more the script's fault, but I don't care for her in the role. Leatherface's guardian is played by veteran actress Alice Krige. Not sure if anyone bothered to recognize her, but she was in films like SLEEPWALKERS, STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT, SILENT HILL, the miniseries CHILDREN OF DUNE, and even had a cameo in THOR: THE DARK WORLD. She's wasted in this movie. I wonder had the script been better, and Sally been given more to do, Alice might have been able to play her.

I was very disappointed in this film and none of the characters were likeable and i HATED how they portrayed Sally and the writing for her character and what a true shameful dishonor to the late Marilyn Burns who so brilliantly played Sally in the original.
The ridiculousness that the characters in this film portrayed was so beyond stupid and just left me shaking my head especially the black girl on the bus who not once informed anyone not even the driver what was going on outside even after he was decapitated and his head was thrown back into the bus and as Leatherface walked onto the bus she just slowly backs away into the crowd of people and mumbles quietly " Run " and then the only time any of the windows open on the bus is for her death scene but you have over a dozen others scrambling to get the windows open but none of them will open...Seriously!!!!
I also found it moronic how you have 30+ young adults live srreaming some large ass man holding a chainsaw and wearing human flesh on his face on their Instagram and other social media accounts who then begins slaughtering them and not one person who watching the live stream calls the police and has them go to that town...I mean really?!
This is just another waste of what could have a really good repraise of the franchise but just like Halloween Kills and Scream it turned out to be a pile of 💩💩💩💩💩💩

I have been a long time horror fan, and It wouldn't bother me at all if they made Leatherface immortal. I didn't like the left agenda they was trying to push however! But they made up for it when all those snowflakes got sawed up on the bus lol... You have to admit it had some good special effects in it! And Leatherface learned some new tricks with that chainsaw. All in all it wasn't that bad and I'm hoping for another one!

I think it’s easily the worst in the franchise it is worse than all the other bad movies in the franchise. The plot is terrible makes no sense, The characters are dull and lifeless and boring and really stupid, leatherface was meh, and all and all no reason for this movie to exist. If you guys want another good scary movie to react to I would suggest the omen from 1976 that’s one of my favorite movies 🎥🍿
