    It is traditional to have the bird's wings spin in opposite directions in order to make it appear as though the wings are flapping. It requires cutting the hubs at opposite angles.

      Great information . I bought the pattern and the kit from The Winfield collection. I also bought a band saw and table saw off craigs list. the pattern one is small like you said. I want to make a more heavy duty one and larger. I see you cut the wing from a 3x4 into 4 pieces. How long are the wings and the body? Also can you buy the brass bushing at L
      owes or home depot? you drill the hole in the body for the spindle on the botton and put the bushing in . what holds the ball bearing?

      These are made with 1/4-inch OD 3/16-inch ID tube
