    Thanks Josh for the video. Lot of super smart guys on there. So cool from all over. Don't agree with guy "Comment" near end who said "all newcomers wanna do is get a leg up, short cut the process" of learning it for themselves. He took a poll, did he? Not the case. Maybe for some thats true, but certainly not all. Some wont know until they get further in, some sooner, like anything else you dont you'll like or not, others are willing to learn for themselves. Thats just called being human. Lars 'gets it', saying new people to the hobby dont know what they don't know yet & they don't want to spend too much on equip until they can learn enough to know what they might want to try to start with. Exactly. Eric, who called after Lars, said newcomers dont "want to even spend 5 minutes on looking anything up for themselves. Really? I bet not after that comment, & then called their questions "low value". Like he knows thats 100% the case? No its not. Not cool. Seems some experienced people want to hold the knowledge exclusive to themselves, don't seem to want to impart it to new people. Unfortunate. Only takes bad attitudes to ruin anything. With that kind of sentiment even from a 1 or 2, who would? People would run not walk away thinking thats the sentiment of too many, why bother! How quickly some forget from whence they've come. Spent hours watching entire video & parts over which is longer than 5 mins & it counts as learning. It's valuable info, but wouldnt call it a crash course to Ham bc it's well advanced & a newbie comes out of it head spinning & it's Greek to same. Patient older guy who worked at Radio Shack shared his excitement of the hobby he loved & it was encouraging & contagious in itself, drove interest, but then he died of cancer unfortunately (coulda been from hobby he loved). He didnt disparage, degrade, or discourage. That's how knowledge is best transmitted & best received from generation to generation, it doesnt cost a dime, & you don't even need an antenna or coax for that!

    I really like your show and youtube. I'm trying to get into ham. As a homesteader we don't have a lot of money. There's a lot of gear needed. I'm liking CB radio and starting with that: President McKinley and a magnet mount antenna on roof of truck. I love CB. Thank you again, you do a great job on many levels. Listening to many many hours of information is teaching me a lot. Will join a local club I found (north fulton, in Atlanta area)

    Used a 9 ft. Steel whip bumper mount, when I had C.B. back in the day, had a 20+ mile reach... 😁

      Unless you were on a mountain, I don’t believe the 20+ reach. Sure it wasn’t 3 short blocks? Nice try though…. 😆

      @tmo7734 were you there? I was sitting on the Edge of the Chesapeake Bay, in a little town called Shady Side Md. Which is 20 miles South of Annapolis. Most of the distance across flat water. I could see the Bay Bridge where I was sitting, and copied ch.19 clear as a bell from there. You ain't gotta believe it, that's on you. But it worked. Nice try your doubting ass, I've got nothing to lie to you over. Have a nice day.

      You only get two or three questions from any particular sub-element. It won't tank your score.

    A 3/4 inch hole and an nmo mount is the way to go. We do it everyday on brand new Chargers, F150's, Explorers. You sweat the first few but then it's just a thing!

    The problem with Ham is you need the practice time to make it set in but you are not allowed to practice before licences. It is a catch 22 before you even see if you want to get in.

      Nah. The test is super simple. The real learning is when you actually get your license and start using your radios!

      @@ItsEverythingElse For you maybe, for others not so much...
      How do you know before being able to try, you are failing to see the development in the process.

    Can I use the antennas that came with my analog radios on my DMR radio?

  • @neighborsusa
    @neighborsusa 8 месяцев назад

    Good info! Could you a do a show that is best handheld, best mobile, best base, and discuss the antennas for each? Some of us are interested in the best. Think of the mentality of buying something great and not think about it for 10 years...Then we rehash it in 10 years. So many channels, So many people to listen to. I subscribed because i like listening to your info. But a show to cater to the people that have money to spend. Quadband antenna...repeater? radios for mobile, base, and handheld would be good. Thank you...N6R.. 73

      Honestly, the best depends on what your radio needs are. There isn’t a universal “best”

      achievemephobia has treatments and you are not alone, ask your doctor about Milwaukee hole saws to see if it’s right for you, side effects include more and longer QSOs, less QRM, better aesthetics and more antenna options. You are not alone and there is treatment, find help.
