Nenenglish Hey Guys Fugu
"What's 'buckets' in English?” and the response reminds me of Polka asking Kiara what's "let's go" in English.
You would be really surprised how many Japanese people just sort of forget that loan words are a thing, since they will generally say them every day so just think of them as part of the Japanese language. I saw a really interesting challenge video of a guy who went out into the streets of Tokyo and asked people to talk to him without using any loan words and almost all of them fail because they don't know what words are loan words.
It's not just unique to japanese though, since English itself has thousands of loan words in it that over time we've just forgotten are loan words and just treat them as natural parts of the English language.
In nene case she didn't know the words maybe lol
@@Noobie2k7 Heh, I remember someone telling me they thought "kamikaze" was a made-up English word that just "sounds Japanese."
Well, to be fair, learning spelling in english is a trial-and-error endeavor
@@Noobie2k7 I saw that video! By Asian Boss right? I wouldn't say it's because they forget that loan words are a thing though, since most loanwords are written in katakana and so it's common sense to figure out which ones are loan words, it's just that they don't know which loan words are from what language (much like for English speakers as you pointed out).
Something that surprised me recently when learning is that "baito" (バイト) or "part time job" is from a German word and not originally a Japanese word.
Wise Nene uses her husband collection to solve her issues.
Cloud computing.
Its a wonder how they just pour in like ants in the chat slowly changing the Japanese chat to English
Then what about the husband issues tho?
Oh wait nvm, we are too busy paying attention to our wife so its OK !
@@Run-Riot fuck this is too funny
lol we are nene's useful tool,
but I will, I will use my tool to have nene satisfied () 🏩
I love how Korone's Hey Guys have become the norm for holomembers to call on us kaigainiki
Or the Towa addition of (bang bang on desk) "HEY GUYS!"
Hey, nene shows us it works so why question a good thing?
@@naginyaaa haha true I haven't even thought about that tho
How to summon her foreign husbandos. 😂
@@aboriginite That's the thing. Nobody questions it.

Nene is the cutest seal
Nene: *Asking how to spell English loan words in English.*
Kaigai Niki: You know, I'm something of a translator myself.
Who needs google when you've got a collection of husbands and Ollie.
Let's be honest Ollie is just the alpha husband. She's not even a separate category
She's like one of those characters in video games that's recolored for no reason like a guns in video games with the same stats but in gold.
@@chitandaeru7239 No no, she's the elite version of the same unit, her stats are way higher than the viewers~
Nene's love for the overseas bros is so wholesome. She wants everybody to have a good time so she takes the time to put translations on signs for both the fans and for HoloEN and ID girls who might not know much Japanese
Just like a good wife
I was there helping!!!
Good ol' "hey guys" to summon the overseas fans.
Thanks for the clip!
Just add "we have a gift for you" and you'll get a different kind of fan
@@kathartik9000 How does it feel to ruin a very wholesome moment?
@@kathartik9000 lmao
The good old days. I see someone remembers the proper summoning ritual.
@@Scruffy72 good times
Honestly it's impressive that she has enough of an overseas audience in her normal 90% Japanese streams to just call on overseas people for help
All the girls do though, we’re just lurking and using basic Japanese until we’re summoned
We're always watching.
soo do they all understand japanese that well? that's some impressive weeb shit
Once we hear hey guys we automatically summons
@@Lysergic25 most of this was pretty basic japanese accuracy declines the more complicated it gets
I love how everyone has accepted the fact that the moment you say either "Hey guys" or "Kaigai-niki", this just summons us. Thanks Roberu
I think it started with Korone
You mean thanks Korone
Arigatou, Korosan
Don't worry, Nenechi. Maintenance is hard for us native speakers to remember how to spell.
Yo wtf I didn't know there was an N there in maintenance. I always say maitenance
@@lolrekt6269 You don't even say the T in some regional dialects.
Also worth noting is that while "maintainance" is technically not a real word, it still is close enough to both the correct spelling and pronunciation of "maintenance" that it wouldn't get mistaken for any other word. While I won't fault her for wanting to fix her mistake (which is an extremely excellent trait for anyone to have), she wouldn't have needed to fix the spelling error for most English speakers to understand her message -- and some would not have even noticed the mistake.
honestly I thought "maintainance" was correct.
Then when chat told it's wrong, I confused
@@matasa7463 Can confirm, i pronounce it May-n-nance, pretty much maintenance removing "te" from the middle
I don’t know what’s funnier. The fact that “hey guys” is widely known throughout Hololive JP as the summons for all English viewers, or the fact that it never fails to instantly summon an entire hoard of them.
Holomem: Hey guys!
Kaigai-nikis: *whomst've summoned the ancient ones?*
Big brain move ngl..
Not ashamed to ask when you didnt know.. and keep courage to learn..
Me, stupid: "Buckets."
Nene, a super mega ultra genius: "Bwouqueit."
There was a British TV series called Keeping Up Appearances, and the main character whose surname was spelled Bucket pronounced it Bouquet.
@@pixymisa8087 Classic show.
@@pixymisa8087 I almost never see anyone mention it... And always get weird looks for calling buckets bouquets. Glad to see someone else thought of that show.
@@pixymisa8087 yes that’s what I thought of as well
never realized how similar nene’s and aqua’s bgm feels
Both melt our braincells lol
If we combine them we might get something brain melting
Wasei Eigo is becoming so normal for the Japanese, they don't even realize they're using actual English terms nowadays.
Like the Trash taste bois said, say stuff in katakana or with a little bit of japanese accent and they are probably going to understand, it might sound racist but it's not haha
Suisei being able to rap in english by using a lyrics sheet written in katakana is a prime example of this
@@lookslikeitsraining6105 Got a highlight video source of that? Or the full episode?

"kaigai nikki, kaigai nikki. hey guys~"
BY THE SUMMONINGS OF OLD I HAVE BEEN CALLED!
Nenecchi "hey guys hey guys" will be my ringtone from now on.
The way she says "kaigai niki, kaigai niki!" has the same vibes as a friendly gyaru saying "nee, otaku-kun, otaku-kun!"
Ah yes,the dream

Small brain: Know the English language.
Medium brain: Use Google Translate.
Big brain: Purchase an English-Japanese Dictionary and use it to translate.
Super brain: *Utilise the vast collection of husbands that are available to you to dictate what to say.*
BEWARE FUGU. "Translator's Note: Fugu means puffer-fish."
I learned that in the late 90s thanks to The Simpsons
Legit wanted to just see a sign put next to it "TL: Fugu mean Pufferfish"; It's what I would've done.
"Hey guys! What is BUKETSU/MENTENANSU in English?"
Love when stuff like this happens
"Hey Guys"
KaigaiNikis: WHOMST SUMMONETH US?!
I'm almost offended to the point that she didn't use overseas husbands. sending in divorce papers >:(
We must teach our wife
@@Ken-df8cp The phrase "we must teach our wife" gives me Hikaru Genji vibes(1). The old story by Murasaki Shikibu, not the boy band. Ironically enough I learned Nene sang one of their songs at some point when I googled Hikaru Genji to make sure I was spelling it correctly.
1) The protagonist of The Tale of Genji at one point becomes the guardian/caregiver of a young girl who he raises to eventually marry him, hence why "teaching our wife" reminds me of it.
@@TechxGuyxJames ooh that's interesting!
@@TechxGuyxJames If I'm correct, the little girl was his niece too.
@@TechxGuyxJames Isn’t that the story about the guy with 14 wives or something.
It's honestly funny how like 50% of actual japanese, is just regular old english fit phonetically into hiragana/katakana writing system. Learning japanese really feels like learning twisted english half the time.
Part of me thinks this might be the case for a lot of languages around the world, especially with regards to more modern words (“computer”, “smartphone”, “television”, etc.). Considering English is pretty much the dominant language overall, I’d think a lot of words would stem from it. Just speculation but I’d be curious to see if this holds true 🤔
@@HS-mn6jc though i agree, from what i understand of the language, each symbol has its own meanings and definitions and amalgomate to essentually describe what it's talking about. I imagine they could essentually call a TV a "box of pictures" (anyone who knows those words feel free to respond, I think it'd be fun to start making up japanese names for borrowed words in this context)
@@nathanwebster103 You could have it be 絵箱/画箱 ('ebako', picture box) but to a native speaker that probably sounds more like a box full of paintings than a TV. 動画箱 ('dougabako', video box) would be more intuitive but sounds pretty clunky.
My pick would be 監視機 ('kanshiki', surveillance machine) lol
Well I wouldn't say 50% but I get it, also obviously many of the words they use also have a way to say them in proper japanese, in cases like this like with "bucket" is more because of the way games are translated, it's an acceptable translation but depending on the people or the situation some may not understand it
@@HS-mn6jc well, yes but no. Computer and television have latin roots, its not that other latin countries took them from english. English loans are common in other languajes, but japanese has a huge ammount of loans compared to other languajes (and not only english loans, for example pan/パン (bread) is a loan from spanish, tho english loans win by a lot).
Nene: Hey guys
Kaigainiki: Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
*senpai had problem in english*

I like how she's calling out to overseas bros like she needs help with her homework.
I love how you can really hear the gears turning when she tries to spell stuff
Nene: Kaigainiki! Kaigainiki!
Overseas Bros: I have been called. I must answer.
I just knew she would prounounce "beware" as beh-wah-reh and she didn't disappoint. Proud husband.
nene innocently trending the dangerous line between Buckets and Bukake lmao
she's like that little girl in your family who tries to read an adult book and keeps going back to you to ask you what this word means and how to say it, endearing to say the least
She learned the "summon kaigai niki" incantation from Korone I see
I feel like it's been a while since I hear the magic words.
I was watching nene stream that day (it was my first time watching nene), her minecraft stream is pretty chill and i was doing my own stuff while having her stream as a background. Was on concentration mode until i heard her say “ be wa re ? Be wa re? “ and i legit thought that was one of the cutest thing i’ve ever heard in my life, especially when nene has like a bear-shaped ear thing in her outfit, which makes the whole thing even more cuter
katakana: exists to write words in other languages, mainly english...
super nenechi, how do i write "bucket" in english?
Www arigato nenechi
No no no, it's "Bouquet"
