This is a gem for us who depend solely on RUclips for learning the ukulele. You always make it feel like you're right there walking us through the process. Thanks Ms. B ❤️ I'd really like a tutorial for Bm and D7 where I end up muting the E string all the time 😋
To play D7, just barre all 4 strings at the second fret with your index finger and hold down the A string with your middle finger. It's much easier that way.
Yayy! Thank you so much ms B! Iam currently nine yrs old and i wanted to master ukulele and now that we are here in quarantine i learned so much from you!

Lovely, gifted teacher...so skilled at supporting people to develop critical skills with foundations for playing. Love your caring, mindful approach, thank you!
Thanks for going over the E chord. Here's how I practice it in 4442 position. To keep myself interested I play Free Falling by Tom Petty. The phrase is A-D, D-A-E. The middle finger stays on the G string the whole time. A chord is 2100 using index and middle, D chord is 2220 using middle, ring and pinky. So going from A to E, you slide the middle finger to the 4th fret and then plant the other fingers. The song is that same sequence over and over so I can get lots of practice! Hope this reaches someone trying to practice chord changes with E.
I started binging all her videos, practicing my chuck right now but I won't lie I like everytime she says 'look up' She knows I'm focusing on my hand lol 😂
I have NEVER been able to play an E chord before. I sub in E7 a lot (it works most of the time) and when I can’t, I transpose the song. 😂 But today I can! That’s so cool.

Instructions unclear... Ukulele is now on fire! Seriously though - I feel like I will mostly never use options 3 and up, but I like the way you do breathing exercises along with it. I started playing a week ago and it's going well!
I vote we just pretend B isn't a chord and either play songs which have no you-know-what, or replace it with a chord that sounds close enough to slop through with a quick fingerpick and a cough.
@@BernadetteTeachesMusic A joke, of course, Bernadette. Spent about 3 hrs on barre chords last night (especially the B, among many painful others...) I did, however, nail House of Gold once I conquered that Bb... so thanks for all the incentive and tutorials!

The trick for me is to use a strap when playing anything involving an e major chord. When I first started playing the ukulele my problem was that I was afraid of dropping it when changing from E to another chord but the strap fixes that.
Good vid. After trying each of those (fyi, 9877 was easiest for me) I'll likely be skipping the E chord or transposing songs that have E in them to another key signature. That chord MIGHT happen after I graduate from rookie status... might
On option 1, why not just barre the three strings on fret 4 with the ring finger and fret the A string with your index finger? That's how I always play it and it's no problem. And it's easier transitioning from that position to other chords than the fingering you describe here. Someone else also suggested just playing the E7, which is pretty easy, and sounds almost exactly the same as the E. I mean, I can hardly tell the difference (though I admit I don't have a great musical ear) and it sounds just as good when you're playing it in a song (as opposed to just playing it by itself), but I will usually just play the regular E because by barring the 3 strings at the fourth fret it's easy enough. (Also, when I play the D chord, I'll usually barre the three strings because I can't fit all three fingers in the more orthodox D fingering. BTW, I usually play the banjo ukulele. I don't know if that makes any difference.)
Just got my ukulele yesterday. A Córdoba 28T. I have a question for anyone who has time to answer. Is it ok to use a pic or is it best to learn to play with thumb and index
im not even beginner and i cant do this chord on soprano because my fingers are too fat. i just do either option 1 with first string muted and middle finger barring other 3 strings in one go "the cheat version". or do option 3 and do full barre voicing
Thanks Ms B! That sure is a lot of ways but now my goal is atleast to master thr first option! Omg lol but yeah I am doing it.. practicing. Though I am really tempted to cheat lol
My request for a chord would be D. I know (now) that I should have a tenor but I have a soprano and a concert ukulele and the D is a little difficult to not mute the A string because my fingers are too wide/fat...
