    I have just done this procedure on my 2004 M3. Be aware the the outer weather strip will be destroyed when removing it. It is very tight to remove and if you bend it it will kink and is then scrap. £130 for a new one.

      I must of got lucky on my 2005 M3 vert as i started at the rear and worked to the front of the trim and came off like a dream and had a different clip system.........

    My recent exeprience is that when attempting to remove the window regulator and attached glass it is necessary to have the convertible top down. (unless the glass is already broken out) It is also necessary to have the window UP when accessing the inverted Torx through the exterior molding access hole. There are some wiring harness loops that must carefully be replaced and secured when the new regulator is installed. Also that inverted Torx is attached to an eccentric that allows some adjustment / fine tuning of the window position.

    0:33, false, the top on my '01 325Ci goes up and down just fine although the right rear window is stuck at halfway. If there's a "computer" checking the window position, it's being fooled by whatever is the problem (likely the green pulley shown later is broken, this is reportedly a common fail and a new one is available online).
    1:40 note that other YT videos (and commenter below) acknowledge that the exterior trim, or the clips securing it to the body, are likely to break.
    3:15, when you "tighten" the ETorx 8mm to loosen it, DO NOT DROP the socket into the bodywork, much hassle to fish it out later.
    3:25, those are 13 mm NUTS not bolts

    All your videos leading up to this part is good and accurate but I have one question what if my window is down. I can't get the inverted torx through when the window is down

      Thanks for watching our videos. You have a great question, and unfortunately, since i haven't has this issue before, I would not be able to provide an accurate answer. I also don't have a convertible at this moment where I can re enact the issue and find solution. sorry I wasn't much help here. Good luck.

      Ryan Bush One thing missing in the video (which are really helpful otherwise) is that there is a small panel on the top inside of the side panel that is held with three phillips head screws and a clamp in the back. Once you remove that, you can see and grab the window and pull it back out. You may have to hit the windows 'up' button at the same time you pull, but that way you can get it up far enough to access the torx screw in the side panel.

      +Thomas Hentschel hey man i tried that and i couldnt get the window to budge. do you think the regulator is no good also
      ???

    • @watcherwatchmen7785

      You can hit the windows up button for a short time and then grab the glass with your fingers and lift up. Each time you lift it, hit the windows up button for a second. If you do it in small amounts, eventually you will be able to get the window all the way up to access the inverted torx bolt. The friction of your fingers (clean fingers) pulling up on the glass should be enough to get a good grip to pull up. If your regulator is dead, I am not sure what you can do. Maybe get a wire coat hanger and bend a small hook on the end to snag the bottom of the glass? Most of the time, if your window doesn't roll up it's because a plastic piece that ties the twisted wire cable pulley system together has broken. The motor does not fail very often. If your regulator is really DEAD and you can't access it, you could use a spring loaded center punch to shatter the glass to remove everything, but you would need a replacement window and regulator assembly and vacuum attachment to clean up the broken glass from the inside of your door.

    How do you actually remove the regulator and window from the quarter panel. I have removed all the bolts and it's loose but no matter how I orient the window and regulator, there is not enough room to pull it out the top? Is there a trick to this?

    • @watcherwatchmen7785
      @watcherwatchmen7785 4 года назад +1

      I'm sure you got it fixed already, so I'm posting this for the people who haven't yet. Your window has to be in the up position in order to access the bolts to remove it as well as to give you enough wiggle room to remove the assembly.

    I have a problem with my rear window how much do you think it would cost if I took it to a garage to get a rear window replaced

    • @watcherwatchmen7785
      @watcherwatchmen7785 4 года назад

      It depends on the garage and how much their hourly labor rate is. No way one of us could estimate for you for someone else. FWIW It took me about 1/2 hour to replace mine, so factor that into your hourly labor rate of the garage you're looking to get it fixed. There are also minor alignment issues that might push the time over what I told you it took me, so 1/2 hour could turn into 1 hour for minor adjustments.

    I have an e46 m3 vert. Great car. I love it. When I got it my convertible top would not work. When I press on the button to put the top down, all of the windows start to roll down but the rear passenger window gets stuck going down and the top doesn’t do anything. Could this be the reason for the top not to work? It worked when I bought it, and when they were showing me for a second time after it worked successfully, the rear passenger window started to not go down and we had to manually closed the top. thanks

      a bad regulator will cause roof not to go down.

      @@bimmermerchant No, not necessarily, it depends entirely on what part of the regulator has failed.

      Mine will! I have a manual top!

    • @watcherwatchmen7785
      @watcherwatchmen7785 4 года назад

      I've manually retracted my top with them up. They only need to go down a fraction of an inch to clear the inner recess/weatherstrip where they engage in the convertible top. That's why when you open your doors, you'll notice the windows go down a tiny bit. (So the top doesn't interfere with the windows.) If you use the buttons to raise and lower the top, the windows will travel to the full up and down position.
