Not true. I have double the index returns over the past year through direct investing. It just is a lot of work to do that much research on small stocks. With limited time, index investing makes more sense.

You can easily compare it on Google finance and check their returns against the index.
In theory, due to India still being a growing but immature market it make more sense to invest in actively managed funds specially in smallcap and to an extent midcap space.

7:03 u have considered from almost 11,000 points to current level which is 350% in 10 years
But if u would have considered just 6 months back from 2014 (Mid 2013) the small cap was only at 6,000, whereas the current level of 47,000 even after over 13% correction in the mid & small cap, the mid cap index is still up over 680% in just 10½ years (from 6000 points in Mid 2013 to now at 47,000)
680% in 11 years is over 21% CAGR for a mid cap index is definitely not undervalued at all, 18% (1.5× Nifty's 12% performance) is fairly valued, in that sense mid caps in long term itself is still over valued by a shade, in short term it is extremely, extremely over valued & overbought

The CAGR calculation of Midcaps seems wrong - 350% return in 10 years is CAGR of around 16.5%, not 28-29%.
