Day seven was our first day back in Texas. This mare is going to travel so much, not even sure we really have a home base! This is part two of this day... we get to ride! And my favorite pair of jeans call it quits LOL. She was great for remembering what we did the day before! Can't wait to share the next video with you all! ...I ended up voicing this one over because I couldn't take the quiet audio!

Hey y’all! Lengthening my stirrups doesn’t fix the issue FYI 😉 Got a new saddle that works perfect now. Stirrup length can’t fix where the fenders are placed or all the bulk under my leg! That’s just the build of the saddle
what brand is your new saddle? I am looking for a ranch saddle that will work for starting mustangs that will fit them.
Beautiful Sam, I recently learned about BIG LICK sport. You have a wide audience and I was just hoping you could speak out about it so more people are forced out of the horse abuse industry. It's barbaric. Just a little mention would be awesome!
I did wonder about the stirrups, thanks for addressing that🐎🐎🐎
Excellent explanations of your work and thought processes as you went along.
She looked so concerned about your pants ripping😭😭😂 what a sweet, willing mare!
I'm so happy on how far you have came with her. She is going to be a great horse (not that she isn't already)
It’s kinda funny what horses randomly do when you start them- she side passed like a champ! 😂
I was like... okay we’re rolling with it 😂
I'll never understand how your videos which are usually very informative and entertaining don't get tons more "Likes".. Where else can you go and see a cowgirl rip her jeans.. lol..
Good job and God bless you and family form dunseith ND Native American Chippewa ❤ 🙏
Finally saved up enough to get a round pen, getting ready to try my hand at training my first horse. You and Camille have been a big inspiration!
Duck tape works in a pinch for too much ventilation in your most favorite pants..... :)
I love how solid she is
I think watching Yellowstone has caused a ton of horse related content. I'm def not a horse person. Your patience is so amazing to me. I'm not seeing/hearing all the little things you're doing as commands. But it's so incredible how she is submitting to you. I live training my dogs. Nothing major just the simple things. This is such good content. Keep it going.
Hay Sam. I enjoy you starting vids soo much. This mare is very handsome. Susan
First! Love you Sam!
I love your videos so much!! Thank you for sharing and spreading your knowledge. It's a beautiful thing to behold, you training a horse that chooses to do what you ask.
I’ve had at least three horses who have, unintentionally been taught that the words “good boy” means stop. Drove me crazy in the round pen!
Those stirrups are killing MY knees just watching! Lol
I have to say I love what you do with the horses.. I have been a farrier/Trainer for quite awhile.i was fortunate enough to meet several natural horse trainers and vet's in my career.people like Clinton Anderson John Lyons and Pat and Linda parelli just to see if you I see a talented inside of you that is very natural you're very calming and soothing wit h the horses and wise in the moves that you make just wanted to let you know.you have me thoroughly impressed and I love watching your videos they always make me smile and it's good to see someone that has a connection with the horses like you do be very proud of what you're doing I am 🙂
I love her eyes ! She did a little side eye to the camera when you moved her after your pants ripped like she was giving attitude lmao
First at 6 sec! I love your channel so much! She is doing so good with her riding! She is so pretty, I love her mane!
PS: Wow!!!! She's so good! Hope you can get her hooves trimmed soon. She's standing off balance because her hooves are so long. Do you have their teeth checked before trying a bit - to check for points or sores in their mouth? So happy you are the one training these horses for their future homes & partners. I despise Clint Anderson's brutal methods. Yay you!
Is she named Kiwi as per your description? She's coming along very nicely and has a nice forward movement. Will be using some of your training methods on my young filly. Thank you for all these great videos. Cheers Aussie Christine
What a steady girl
Very impressive , as always..
Looks great Sam, as usual...very impressive work you’re doing. No nonsense, and no bullying. Of course, I’m really curious about a name... I have a good one in mind, but I won’t share it unless you want me to (I know you have lots of good ideas already). Thanks for sharing your progress! MBZ
It was never announced on RUclips for some reason (just Instagram apparently, I don’t use it), but her name is Kiwi!
Apparently she named the mare Kiwi, its been in the video descriptions since she was named with her age etc
amazing progress
Hackamore definitely gets them to stop easier but using a regular rope halter teaches better softness in the end.
She is so beautiful 😍 great video. You are such an amazing horseperson
Very nice!🥰
She's gorgeous! Wondering why you don't use a mounting block? I could mount from the ground on a 16.2hh OTTB from the ground in English saddle - BUT - that adds uncomfortable, unnecessary pressure & can irritate their hair under saddle pad. Other than that, I like training with scratching rewards & a lot of "good girl" when they get what you're teaching! No whips, no spurs & firm kindness & patience. You do amazing work!!! 👏👏👏🐴♥️. What is the 2nd girth strap on Western saddles really for? Do you feel it's necessary?
Such a gorgeous mare
I feel your pain with the pants, Sam. I was at work and my pants ripped and just kept going everytime I squatted down lol. Kiwi is doing great, such a good girl
Good job !
Are your stirrups too short? If they were set a little longer it might out your legs in a better position to use your legs. This mare is coming along nicely.....she seems to figure things out pretty quick!
Nope. Got a new saddle and this one has no bulk 👍 stirrup length isn’t the issue, it’s the build of the saddle and where the fenders are
She a beautiful horse, she’s going to be a wonderful horse for someone to ride one day 💕
are you based in Oklahoma. I'm in Guthrie. Love your approach to every thing.
Good Job!!!! Doing Great
Lovely training 🙋🏻♀️💪🏻🌹
Wonderful ☺️!
Love these videos bye the way did you notice the girth came loose?
Hello! Is the 7th day of training a mustang and you've already rode on her? Wow, it's amazing, but, I would use more pauses and more relaxation because the mare is tense all the time. Anyway, it's incredible to achieve this in 7 days... I was inspired in EMM from Europe and I get a 7yo wild arabian, well, 30 days and I've touched her a little bit. I woudn't do it in 100 days as I see, but it's gonna be different of course :)
The reason your foot is so far back is that your stirrups are too short. You are riding western, not english. I know this because I used to ride with too short of stirrups. On a different note, I love watching you. You have picked up the skills of natural horsemanship very well. I love how much you teach me that I've missed.
No, lengthening them keeps it in the same position 🙂 got a new saddle and it’s fixed. The issue of the build of the saddle... where the fenders are placed and the bulk under my leg
@@SamVanFleet Have you ever tried riding Aussie? No horn.
Can you give us an idea of how long you work in the ring, how many times a week, day?
Might be a silly question, but can you get a clip on mic you can use for these videos? Just thought it might be better rather than having to voice over after. Loving the progress already :3
What is the manual release you talked about when sticking your finger in her mouth? When/what is it used for? Thanks Sam, love the videos they’re super helpful! Keep it up!
Just a thought. Have you tried dropping your stirrups a hole or two? May get your leg into a better position for you. Just an idea if you love your saddle. Something to try. Kiwi looks awesome! 💜
Definitely need shorter stirrups lol. Lengthening them won’t fix bulk. Got a new saddle and this one is much better for my leg 🙂
@@SamVanFleet I was thinking making them longer. Can't wait to see the new saddle! Fun!
She's beautiful ❤️ and you also
Hey! Love the video! Question: I have a young horse that WILL NOT canter when i lunge him, what do I do? He pulls me around. I have done ground worm for 2 years with him. I’m just lost :(
So for the youth division do they keep their horses and the adults auction off their horses?
Yes
What location is this is so pretty there??
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's Camille's place in College Station, Texas.
Great work but what brand of jeans are you wearing here?
Ariat
Third!
How many hh is she?
What type of reins are you using?
6 foot Split reins from my observation.
Split reins from Counter Canter Designs!
just for future reference, maybe mute the audio of the video itself if youre talking in the video while also doing a voice over?
regardless impressive work with the horse, shes advancing so quickly!
Good jeans are hard to come by.
she is like 14 hands right?
Yes
👍👍👍😉... 🇷🇺☝️👋
💌 happy good job 👍 can you work with mine in Texas??
I'd love it if Sam would get my draft mare going under saddle. I did get her saddle broke and she's a great lead line pony with someone on her back, but like this mustang (who has Draft in her) in the beginning, mine freezes and plants feet and will not move with someone on her back saddle or no saddle if not being led. I've had 3 kids on her back at once leading them around. I have a wonderful mare but can't be on her and the ground at the same time. Her head is the size of my whole torso and very heavy to hold to the side for long plus she's very limber and she will flex her nose to her belly!
