    Day seven was our first day back in Texas. This mare is going to travel so much, not even sure we really have a home base! This is part two of this day... we get to ride! And my favorite pair of jeans call it quits LOL. She was great for remembering what we did the day before! Can't wait to share the next video with you all! ...I ended up voicing this one over because I couldn't take the quiet audio!

    Hey y’all! Lengthening my stirrups doesn’t fix the issue FYI 😉 Got a new saddle that works perfect now. Stirrup length can’t fix where the fenders are placed or all the bulk under my leg! That’s just the build of the saddle

      what brand is your new saddle? I am looking for a ranch saddle that will work for starting mustangs that will fit them.

      Beautiful Sam, I recently learned about BIG LICK sport. You have a wide audience and I was just hoping you could speak out about it so more people are forced out of the horse abuse industry. It's barbaric. Just a little mention would be awesome!

    I think watching Yellowstone has caused a ton of horse related content. I'm def not a horse person. Your patience is so amazing to me. I'm not seeing/hearing all the little things you're doing as commands. But it's so incredible how she is submitting to you. I live training my dogs. Nothing major just the simple things. This is such good content. Keep it going.

    I have to say I love what you do with the horses.. I have been a farrier/Trainer for quite awhile.i was fortunate enough to meet several natural horse trainers and vet's in my career.people like Clinton Anderson John Lyons and Pat and Linda parelli just to see if you I see a talented inside of you that is very natural you're very calming and soothing wit h the horses and wise in the moves that you make just wanted to let you know.you have me thoroughly impressed and I love watching your videos they always make me smile and it's good to see someone that has a connection with the horses like you do be very proud of what you're doing I am 🙂

    PS: Wow!!!! She's so good! Hope you can get her hooves trimmed soon. She's standing off balance because her hooves are so long. Do you have their teeth checked before trying a bit - to check for points or sores in their mouth? So happy you are the one training these horses for their future homes & partners. I despise Clint Anderson's brutal methods. Yay you!

    She's gorgeous! Wondering why you don't use a mounting block? I could mount from the ground on a 16.2hh OTTB from the ground in English saddle - BUT - that adds uncomfortable, unnecessary pressure & can irritate their hair under saddle pad. Other than that, I like training with scratching rewards & a lot of "good girl" when they get what you're teaching! No whips, no spurs & firm kindness & patience. You do amazing work!!! 👏👏👏🐴♥️. What is the 2nd girth strap on Western saddles really for? Do you feel it's necessary?

    Are your stirrups too short? If they were set a little longer it might out your legs in a better position to use your legs. This mare is coming along nicely.....she seems to figure things out pretty quick!

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet  3 года назад +1

      Nope. Got a new saddle and this one has no bulk 👍 stirrup length isn’t the issue, it’s the build of the saddle and where the fenders are

    Hello! Is the 7th day of training a mustang and you've already rode on her? Wow, it's amazing, but, I would use more pauses and more relaxation because the mare is tense all the time. Anyway, it's incredible to achieve this in 7 days... I was inspired in EMM from Europe and I get a 7yo wild arabian, well, 30 days and I've touched her a little bit. I woudn't do it in 100 days as I see, but it's gonna be different of course :)

  • @Taocat1
    @Taocat1 3 года назад +3

    The reason your foot is so far back is that your stirrups are too short. You are riding western, not english. I know this because I used to ride with too short of stirrups. On a different note, I love watching you. You have picked up the skills of natural horsemanship very well. I love how much you teach me that I've missed.

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet  3 года назад +2

      No, lengthening them keeps it in the same position 🙂 got a new saddle and it’s fixed. The issue of the build of the saddle... where the fenders are placed and the bulk under my leg

    • @SamVanFleet

      I'd love it if Sam would get my draft mare going under saddle. I did get her saddle broke and she's a great lead line pony with someone on her back, but like this mustang (who has Draft in her) in the beginning, mine freezes and plants feet and will not move with someone on her back saddle or no saddle if not being led. I've had 3 kids on her back at once leading them around. I have a wonderful mare but can't be on her and the ground at the same time. Her head is the size of my whole torso and very heavy to hold to the side for long plus she's very limber and she will flex her nose to her belly!
